My laptop was delivered by FedEx around 12:30 yesterday, right as I was in the middle of finishing this painting. First of all, thrilled to have it back! It works beautifully and a bonus of having the keyboard replaced is the fact that it looks brand spanking new! A few of the keys were a bit worn-looking from so many years of use.
I finished the painting not long after the laptop arrived. This is the Freesia pattern and it’s number 9 in my series. It was quite challenging for me but I have to remember that it’s all a learning process. Ultimately, I’m pleased with it.
I straightened and sorted through my stacks of reading matter in the den. It looks better in there, thank goodness. I also pulled a lot of weeds outside, watered all the porch plants, and vacuumed – all this while Don was getting his hair cut. The fact is, I get a lot more done when he’s not here!
I also did a little playing around with the dollhouse. The gorgeous pink chair (made by artisan June Clinkscales) that I purchased a while back had been sitting in the art studio, but it’s on the large side and I suddenly felt it took up too much space in that little room. So I moved it into the living room.
It picks up the pink in the sofa. I’m not sure this is permanent yet, but if you remember, I had the deep red chair in here, which is also beautiful. That chair is now in the studio but I think I have to find a chair that is lighter in color for that room. I’ll play around with furniture placement and see if I can make it work.
I’m starting to work on finishing this dollhouse. I’ve taken a bit of a break but it’s time to head for the finish line. The bed needs to be dressed, the wardrobe needs to be painted, the front ‘porch’ needs to be painted, I need to buy some more lights, and then lots of little accessories need to be added. I’m hoping to get some of those at the miniature show in September; plants, artwork, pottery, maybe some more books and some stuff for the kitchen.
Then…will I finally start on the Beacon Hill? Seems daunting.
Stay safe.
Happy Tuesday.

The Beacon Hill would be a good late fall, winter project when you cannot get outside as much.
Your painting is going along well – you certainly have a lot of them done!

Thanks so much, Ellen!

Another great painting, Claudia! The Dollhouse is looking very cosy. June Clinkscales – what a marvellous name! She could be a Harry Potter characterš
Happy Tuesday

Isn’t that the best name?
Thanks, Dee Dee.

First of all, the painting is lovely. I love the color mix you used for the vase and the background, too. It’s very peaceful and harmonious.
I like the chair there, although it still feels a little big but probably better than in the studio, size-wise. It will be fun to see the additions to the kitchen. The bookcase certainly has filled out! It looks just terrific, Claudia. I can’t wait to see more. I’ll be on the eye for a Broadway puzzle. I don’t think you’d like the one my cousins have — the art kind of made me mad. It would be a bear to do, though not for you, I think. I’ve seen what you do! But it just wasn’t working for me. I should write the company and tell them they need to do one of the Broadway posters!
Claudia says
It’s a big overstuffed chair, so it’s supposed to be a bit bigger.
Yes, write the company and suggest a puzzle with Broadway posters!
Stay safe, Jeanie.

Oh, my goodness, there is not a TIME I do not catch my breath when I gaze upon your incredibly-beautiful doll houses, Claudia. Your photos of them are always such a treat for this reader. They transport me into that other world of fantasy as if I’m a kid again and reading about a storybook squirrel in his cozy, safe, warm, lovingly-‘decorated’ tree-trunk nook. The thing I love about your houses is that they are elegant and detailed but very real. One can definitely imagine living in each room of every house you created. (I want to sit on those chairs! I want to curl up and read one of those books!)
I don’t mean to be overly-effusive in my praise, but you have the eye for so much art, with photography, your paintings, your doll houses and what you collect and how you arrange your own human cottage; I feel it’s a real talent and I only have a smidgen of it!
Another perfect painting in your Roseville series. Bravo! I don’t personally feel that still-life work is so easy; you can get away with a lot in landscapes, but a still-life painting has to be believable and quite detailed, and yours are, in my opinion! You just MUST find the wall space for this collection. (It doesn’t take away from your real, hold-them-in-the-hand pottery; this is a whole different thing. One can complement the other.) You could frame each small canvas in the same inexpensive, neutral/slim (no mat necessary) frame (nothing to take away from the art itself) and they could, as a set, be spaced artfully and close-enough together for uniformity but with this explosion of gorgeous color against a white wall space. I love them all; you’ve done an amazing job. I hope you’ll continue to be encouraged to paint. Maybe your next endeavor could be from the photos of your various/varied birds in the yard. Or your egg cups. Gosh, could be any number of subjects!
(I feel like I’m telling you what to do. I’m not; I’m just enthusiastic!)
Of course, before we know it, Fall/Winter will be upon you, and there are puzzles to do; books to be read. And doll houses to finish! With painting and all that other stuff too, you will have a lot to keep you busy in those months ahead.
(I was thinking that online/TV, there’s too much rush to ‘autumn’ already [could we get summer over first?!], but then I actually DID get a craving for Fall and the taste of pumpkin, cinnamon; and, although we’re in for a super-hot day today in SoCalif, I actually felt cold last night and had to add a blanket for sleep, when it’s been sheets-only for what seems months. To spur on the feelings/cravings, my home page had 50 autumn quotes [from Reader’s Digest], so that then REALLY put me in the mood this morning. Alas, though; ’tis only yet the first week in August. [What am I, Shakespeare? I lapsed into something there … {!!!}])

You’re so kind, Vicki! Thank you.
I’d love to live in this little mini cottage myself! I look at that room and realize I could be quite happy there. It’s fun to decorate them, and much more affordable than in real life.
We will definitely frame the paintings. I’m not sure where we will hang them yet – maybe on the high wall in the kitchen, maybe on the stair wall – not sure yet.
I can definitely feel fall in the air here. It’s too early, of course, but the mornings have been much cooler.
Stay safe!

Love #9 ! and your cozy miniature house!
It must be Fledge Week. DH Davidās Santa Fe four babies took off today, though one took longer to achieve it. He stayed on the ground for some time, made it to a nearby bush for a bit, back to the ground again, tried a low tree branch nearby, but missed. DH was wondering what next? Then Papa bird came nearby onto the top of the small fruit tree and called. The 4th one flew up next to him then. Papa flew to a nearby wall and called – all four came to him; Papa went to the roof and called – they all went. DH had to go back to work, satisfied that all was right with the world again. But FOUR babies they had. We were aghast that there were so many this time.
So glad you have your dear Apple back in good form, Claudia. Good day to you – oops Evening.
XO
