Peepers Make a Brief Appearance & Egg Cups

March 13, 2026 at 9:19 am by Claudia

Friday – cooler than earlier in the week, but the rain has left and the sun is shining. Looking at the next ten days, I see temps in the 40s, then 60s, then 30s. All over the place. The other night we heard the peepers! They usually appear around mid-March, but this was earlier than usual, most likely because it had been very warm. We were so excited! But the next day the temperatures really dropped and we didn’t hear them last night. We probably won’t until it warms up significantly.

It has begun: another tour of the egg cups. I am pulling from previously used photos because I can’t count on the light these days and I don’t want to pull them out of the cubbies. Yes, I’m lazy.

Here are four of my favorites. Four egg cups from Japan and marked “Japan” on the bottom. On the left, a dog wearing a hat and dressed in a suit. then a little boy dressed as a cowboy, a rosy-cheeked little boy with a blue hat, and another little boy wearing a clown suit, with his little dog at his side.

Here we have Humpty Dumpty sitting on a brick wall. Made by Mansell – a company in England. I found this one pretty early on in my collecting.

I was first enchanted by figural egg cups. The majority of my egg cups are figural in nature because they’re whimsical and charming and you know how much I love whimsy. Since they are the bulk of my collection, that’s what I’ll concentrate on during this tour.

Thanks so much, my friends.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

I think these might be my favorites of your figurative cups. They’re awfully cute, great personality.

    Yay, Peepers!

Fun to see your first instalment of your pretty darn cute egg cups. We’re supposed to get snow today till 5:00 pm. Are we not doing Spring this year? Are you looking forward to the Oscars on Sunday? We’ll be watching. Hugs, Elaine

Oh no. I’m sorry about the snow. It’s going to stay rather chilly through the rest of the month here. Sigh.

      Stay safe, Elaine.

Ah…your egg cups! I adore the figurative cups….so expressive. The boy with the clown suit especially. His eyes and that smirk. Precious. I’m wondering, did all of your cups fit in the wooden case or do you have spots left over for new acquisitions? I can’t remember.

We are to get snow this weekend…boo. High winds today, and last night…it’s nasty out there. No peepers here for sure. Keep wondering what the cranes will do with 6+ inches of snow coming?

    Enjoy your day! ;)

He looks like he’s up to no good, Donnamae.

There are a few spots left, but they’re hidden because of the wood on the doors.

By the looks of the weather forecast for this month, I’m not sure when the peepers are coming back!

      Stay safe.

The weather here has been all over the place also. Enough warm weather for the trees to bloom and my allergies to go crazy. Still seeing the sun and feeling the warmth makes me happy. My Annie Elle is enjoying finding the sun puddles again also. Love the egg cup tour each year!

Oooh, nice to revisit the egg cups. I have a few egg cups but they’re functional rather than collectible/decorative. I used to collect small animals cast in aluminum, adding to my collection each year from a shop in Ottawa, where I visited my paternal family. I also have animals carved in wood from Cornwall, carved in native rock from Wales, and carved in stone from Alaska and the same shop in Ottawa. My dad bought me a carved turtle when we were in Vegas. He was never a huge gift-giving person so the few gifts he gave me I treasure. Of course, Dad did give me his wisdom, his support, and a solid loving upbringing, best gifts ever.

I wish I had more space to display my collection properly but my ground floor is basically a couple of rooms and what wall space there is has tall bookcases against them. I’d love to find a cabinet like yours, Claudia, where you display your egg cups.

Last week or so we had high temperatures in the 80s here in the Southern Appalachians. Our daffodils were blooming and I saw a small fence lizard out sunning. There was a red haze on the ridge across the way, a sign that the buds on the trees were swelling. Now the weather forecast is saying that we will have lows in the teens this weekend. Sigh. I knew it was too early to be that warm last week. Now we will have frozen things and brown buds on the flowering cherries and plums.

I hate that part of spring. I’m sure there are buds on some of the crabapple trees here, as well.

      Stay safe, Judith.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
