Pink Saturday – Birthday Edition

Hello, everyone! Happy Pink Saturday! Today is my birthday. So I think it is appropriate to have a Pink Saturday post that is about my Mom.


A while back, I had a post about hanging photos on a piece of twine. I included this studio portrait of my Mom when she was a little girl. By the way, that photo on the left is also of Mom when she was in her teens – 16 or 18? (Mom will let me know.) I’ve always loved this picture of Mom pouring tea. My grandmother had 3 different poses from this shoot on her wall for years. Mom’s banana curls and her shiny shoes and her dress are so adorable. I have that dress – handmade by my Grandmother. It has been safely stowed away in my dresser drawer all these years.

Writing that post got me to thinking about the dress and I retrieved it from the drawer. When I was out treasure hunting, I came across the perfect vintage child’s hanger.

Isn’t this the sweetest dress? The hanger is pink so that qualifies this post for Pink Saturday!

Grandma was a wonderful seamstress – look at the ruffles and the smocking – just perfect. My Mom is 82 now, so this dress has been around a long time. Perhaps I will frame it and have it on display. Although, the color has been preserved because it has been kept out of the light. What to do?

My favorite color combination: aqua and pink. Aren’t those the cutest ducks on that pink wooden hanger?

    I love it that you thanked your Moma today on your special day. On my birthday every year, I send my Moma roses thanking her for life. I have not heard of anyone else thanking their Momas, and I was beginning to think that it was out of style or something. What a beautiful picture of your Moma. I love the little dress and yes, you should have it framed. How beautiful it is, the color is just exquisite.

    This tribute to your mom is truly precious. Love the photograph of her as a little girl, and that dress! Oh, my! Talk about cuteness! And I agree about the color and the color of the darling little duck hanger. If you display it, make sure that you don’t use no glare glass. They can trap UV rays. I would consult a professional about archivial framing, and then put it in a place that doesn’t get a lot of light. They display antique textiles in museums, so I’m sure there’s a perfect way to display that very, very special piece.

  8. Happy Birthday Claudia! What a very special post! The turquoise surprised me after seeing it in black and white. I think if you have it professionally framed and hang it where there isn’t a lot of natural light it would be okay. Or you could take a great photo of it with the cute pink hanger and display it with the other photos of your mom. That way you can enjoy the color and still protect it.

    I also love the colours aqua and pink. Aqua has been a favourite of mine for years. I think it runs in the family because my mother, sister, and aunt all love the colour.

You could get a shadow box frame that is archival and would protect the dress. Wouldn’t it be cute to find a little tea cup to go with it. Oh, I can see all kinds of possibilities.     This post is so sweet, the pictures of your mom are just wonderful, the dress divine! I would take it to a professional framer and get their advice, they can put something together for you that will preserve the dress and allow you to display it. I wouldn’t want it crushed behing glass, though. Maybe a type of shadow box or something like that…
    Anyway, I enjoyed my visit today! Give your mom a great big hug next time you see her. Mine is gone now and I miss her everyday.

    You Mum’s dress is in such perfect condition, I’d think it was new. The color is amazing – from the photo I was thinking it was a pastel. It would look great under glass.
