• In order to find space for my great-grandmother’s china in the cabinet, I had to find a new home for some of my McCoy. I added several pieces to this grouping.
I like it.
• Some housekeeping:
Yesterday’s blog post was written late in the morning and it didn’t go out to those of you who get email versions of the daily post. I wasn’t sure why, but when I investigated, I discovered that the most recent posts have been going out a bit earlier than normal. So I just missed the deadline. Anyway. You should most likely get two posts today: yesterday’s and today’s. Yesterday’s post was all about my great-grandma’s china – with lots of photos.
Also, when I was speaking of losing ad income when I couldn’t post during my illness, some of you commented about clicking on the ads. Bless you. But you don’t need to do that. I get income just from you visiting the blog. I don’t get it when you simply read the email version of the post. Or read the post on another feed. You have to visit the blog. But that’s all you have to do. And you don’t even have to do that if you don’t want to! So don’t worry about clicking on ads. Thank you so much for caring. Only your ‘presence is required.’
• More snow. More ice – about an inch of it. I am so sick of this once-a-week snow/ice combination. My car is stuck on the parking level because we were too sick to shovel that area. But I’m feeling better now and I’d like access to my car. It’s supposed to hit 50 degrees here today and I’m going to try to chop up some of that snow/ice so that it will melt more quickly. The good thing is that the addition of item #4 has eliminated the problems we had last winter with huge areas of ice on the top of the driveway. Remember that? I was out there chopping the ice every day.
• Don had to withdraw from a workshop he was going to do for a new musical. It would have rehearsed every day next week in NYC and he would have had to do a lot of singing. There’s no way he could have done it. I’m in my fourth week of this crap and, though I’m much better, I still cough, I still have chest congestion. And he’s a week behind me. He wasn’t getting paid much – it wasn’t about that – but it would have been a great experience for him. He finally made the decision to withdraw because he didn’t want to leave them in the lurch at the last minute.
February has not been good to us.
I’m thinking of throwing a party to celebrate March. I will be glad to kick February to the curb.

That collection of McCoy is one of my favorites…the color!! I hope this cold, snow and ice leaves your area soon. It has been cold and rainy here. I have 3 Dr’s appt scheduled today. One for Mom and two for me. One is an eye exam and the other I want to find out if I’m a MRSA carrier or just caught it somewhere. Trying to take care of me and not just my Mom. Rest up and I hope Don feels better. It sounds like he was looking forward to the workshop but he made a good decision. Hugs to you both.
He was. It would have been good for him, career-wise. Very disappointing.
your pottery looks beautiful there, especially against the darker wood … but the main thing is you’re feeling better. yay! trust don will get there soon, too … but too bad that he had to miss the workshop. hope that opportunity comes around for him again.

we’re in that thaw/re-freeze cycle until saturday (when we are to get more snow, ice, sleet, etc. all day long before even more snow on monday and tuesday … can i invite myself to your party?!?) … but i am happy that we are getting closer and closer to spring.

Glad you are feeling better ~ pooh! about Don having to miss an opportunity. We have sun today as well. Hubs is outside cleaning up some of the walkways to be prepared for the next ice/ snow event on Sat/Sun. So much to which to look forward! ugh. Don’t overdo in your endeavors today. Remember, there is always tomorrow!!
Oh no! Not another ice event! It’s tough to stay positive, isn’t it? We just came in from doing a lot of work, and I made Don stop. Me too. That’s it for today.

I’m sorry for Don’s lost opportunity. The virus you both have sucks! But I’ve heard similar stories. One of my friends has been coughing for four weeks. He called me yesterday and after every other sentence “cough cough”. Of course, he’s so polite so he apologizes after every cough; that added to the coughing. I finally told him to stop apologizing, lay off the coffee, and drink more water.

Your china is beautiful…do you plan on using it? But, that McCoy…all that delicious turquoise gathered in one spot….makes me swoon! Looks perfect on top of that cabinet.
Sunny day today…ice melting. We have lots of icicles…some in dangerous spots…that have to get knocked down. Another ice event coming this weekend along with more snow. Oh joy! ;)
They don’t come along very often. So, most likely not.
I most likely won’t use the china. I have a whole other set of vintage china. The fact is we hardly ever entertain and we live a very casual lifestyle, usually eating on trays in the den!
Wow! I love that pottery arrangement. I wish I had a spot in my house for something like that. We had the same kind of cold that you have. I have not been able to go anywhere, so I have been concentrating on rearranging my bookshelves and books. Mostly looking at them and thinking. But it is getting better looking. That and your blog.

We just got back from lunch at the beach with old friends—my favorite kind of Beach Day, foggy and slightly cool! But I had to say how much I love that turquoise/aqua McCoy grouping. My one and only piece is lime green and I love it, too. But that blue-greeny color gets me every time I see it!
So sorry to hear about the lost opportunity for Don. That awful bug (what Mr. Wizard would call, “The Terrible Blue Mocus”) has been around your cottage for tooooooo looooong.

I’m more than ready to kick Feb to the curb, too and I haven’t even been sick! (And neither has Brian.) This entire month has been nothing but snow, ice, freezing rain, 50 mph winds, and sub-zero temps. I am longing for spring and sunshine and warmth and sitting on my porch or patio. I sometimes feel like I’m going to jump out of my skin if we have to face one more day of this miserable weather! Anywho, I’m glad you’re finally starting to feel a little better. Hopefully, Don won’t be far behind you.
It’s been a miserable month!
The warm temperatures and the sun melted the snow we received yesterday. Went out last night to shovel and salt the area. It was getting icy, fortunately the warmer temperatures finished the job.

Since I use a server and have security on the blog – all of which costs money – I wouldn’t be able to do this without advertising.
Such a beautiful china collection! We inherited similar china from Germany, England, and France from my husband’s aunt and his mother and grandmother. I have one lovely piece from my grandmother.
My daughter and her daughters show no interest in this collection. I will use and cherish this collection and hope they might change their minds.
I am very sorry to hear that your husband was too ill to take advantage of a fine opportunity. I am sure that you both will enjoy the passing of such a difficult February.

I discovered your web site this evening as I was searching for Mockingbird themed items for my new home – Mockingbird Cottage! I left my old home Holly Hall on Black Jack Mountain to live in a valley community called Oak Grove. I noted we are of the same political persuasion. Then I saw your family china. Unbelievably, it is a close match to the Haviland Limoges set I ended up with from my father’s family. The original pieces came over in the 1830’s from Germany and over time apparently two more sets were purchased to replace the broken pieces. I, too, love gardening, reading, animals, collecting varied things and spending time with friends, among other things. I have always described my decorating style as Southern American style English country as interpreted by Judi. Was so excited to see your blog and looking forward to visiting it often. Thank you for doing it. So sorry you and your husband have been ill. Glad you are on the mend.
