• Don sure is a popular guy. Turns out his haircut is a major hit both here on the blog and on Instagram.
I think he’s stealing my thunder.
Harumph!
He is awfully cute, though, so I’ll forgive him.
• Do you think this area is sort of a mess? I must admit that I was shocked when I looked at the wall and that end of the desk yesterday. Every lanyard I’ve ever had for the various shows I’ve coached (and the VIP lanyard for the Paul McCartney concert at CitiField); all my mini pottery, which can no longer be contained in that little shelf unit; stacks of paperwork and my filofax; a roll of craft paper for working on minis; a jam-packed bulletin board; another little cubby unit on the floor; and, between the desk and the wall, all sorts of stuff I need for dollhouse construction.
I’m feeling the urge to organize and purge (a wee bit.)
• I’m experimenting with some paper backing behind the sheep on my mantel shelf above the desk. Without it, they blend into the wall. You can see that the wall slants right above the top edge of the paper. This is what we have to deal with upstairs. We have these walls in every room. They’re charming, but also a pain in the tush.
Anyway, it’s a place marker. I’m going to look for some paper that really works there. Wouldn’t it be neat to find some paper that has green hills and trees or something barn related? Or just a series of trees – I’d like that.
• Vintage by Crystal has a blog sale for every holiday. The day of the sale, Crystal and Ben post all the items that are available and if you’re interested, you have to sent them an email right away to reserve your favorite. I can’t tell you how many items I’ve lost out on because I forgot about the sale and didn’t get there right at the start! Last year, I snagged this Santa. In the end, I don’t remember the other items I was hoping to buy because this one ended up being the perfect one for us. Don loves it.
I have another one on the way here from last week’s sale, which found me frantically emailing them 20 minutes after the sale had started because I had been in transit and had just landed at a coffee shop in NYC while waiting for rehearsal to start. I lost out on two creations, but – again – I think the one I ended up buying is the best. Funny how that happens. It should be here today or tomorrow.
Happy Wednesday.

But it’s a happy little mess, Claudia! So many treasures, for sure. Hope you find the perfect backdrop for those sheep.
Claudia says
Happy until it’s no longer happy! Which is now!
Mary Bond says
That is not too bad. Mine is worse. You need a place to work. You have fine animal
figurinies and display them well.
Claudia says
Thank you, Mary!

love the sweet mini sheep and crystal’s vintage-style creations.
and, just as much, i love seeing how people’s desks and creative spaces are used. especially now that my painting place is my desk, set next to my sweet mother’s sewing machine in a corner of my living room (so i try to keep things tidy – but also – thankfully – like the look of things being used and art in process).
thanks for sharing!

ps: did that vip lanyard mean you met paul mcmartney?!?
Claudia says
I didn’t meet him, but Don is a longtime friend of one of Paul’s band members, Brian Ray. Brian got us the tickets (free) and we had VIP Parking, sat in the 6th row and got to go backstage! An amazing, amazing experience.
Shanna says
Wow! 💕
Claudia says
Wow, indeed!
kathy in iowa says
happy that you and don could have that experience!

Just a thought for your background for the sheep— have you thought of using fabric that has been dipped in starch? Then you can change the scenery very easily. I love your collections. I am also collecting small creamers and salt and pepper shakers. And fabric.
Claudia says
That’s a good idea, Trina. I’ll see what’s out there.
Wendy T says
Claudia, yes, your desk is a bit of a mess. I don’t notice my messes until I take a photo of the areas. I’m just too immersed into the space working on my projects, whatever they may be, to notice. And when I’m doing projects, I like to have all I need at hand. It’s the putting-away I’m not too good at!
Claudia says
I need to put away TODAY!
tammy j says
oh another exquisite Christmas tee photo! you are a true professional! the little Santa comes to life.
and I’m like Trina… I was thinking a beautiful swatch of blue fabric (I didn’t know about the dipped in starch part!) I wonder then what green carpet would look like … to simulate grass!
it might be fun to try it. it wouldn’t take much to create a little scene for them.
but regardless. ANYTHING you do will look great! you have a touch. I think without even realizing it. some people do. and you do.
I think there was a commercial like that once. LOL.
Claudia says
I’m going to keep this background until I find the perfect thing, Tammy!
Donnamae says
Well…it’s a little messy. Not bad though. I have a roll top desk which I love, because I can hide my mess, which is a problem, because I can hide the mess. I need to sort, file, shred…but, that’s for after Christmas. I love that you kept all your lanyards….they certainly deserve their own display don’t you think?
I really like the place maker paper behind your sheep…makes them stand out so much better. There might be a wall paper border that would give you the rolling hills you desire? How are your painting and drawing skills? Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
I think I’ll probably clean it all up after Christmas, too.
My painting and drawing skills are non-existent!
Marilyn says
Your mess is not too bad. You should see our mess. We are starting to wrap gifts and paper, ribbons and to and from tags are all over the place.

It’s only going to get worse here before it gets better!
bobbie says
I love your Michigan license plate :) I’m from Michigan. Bobbie
Claudia says
Me too! That’s why Don gave it to me!
Kay says
That little white tree and those vintage ornaments are so pretty. We have naughty kitties, so I’d be scared to death to leave them alone in a room with it. As far as organizing, isn’t that what we all try to do at the beginning of the New Year? Well, we all have good intentions anyway ;-)
Claudia says
Yes. I’ll wait for the New Year!
nancybluemoon says
It’s not so bad…you have some great things and memories there!
Claudia says
I do. It just needs to be cleaned up!

Thanks for responding to my comment about music. I’m glad Don plays sometimes for you. My husband used to act, sing and dance at Hartford Stage way before I met him (over 30 years ago) with a beautiful baritone but he always felt funny singing for me. When his step-daughter visits (sadly, rarely), she sings opera in our living room and the sound waves that go thru me are an out of this world experience. Music!! I would think one of the fun things about being a performer is having different personae (personas?). Don with long hair and goatee–Don without, still handsome, still a standout, one a beach bum, one photographic auteur. Do you remember the Smothers Brothers? One of my favorites of their songs was the Streets of Laredo: “If you get an outfit, you can be a cowboy, too.” Hope you fare well in the big storm they are predicting this weekend. How cosy your home with look with the lights up and the decorations gleaming.
Claudia says
Don used to play more often then he sort of took a break when he started pursuing the photography with his vintage camera. But he’ll get back into it.
Music is a big part of our life here!
I also envy anyone who can sing opera! And I sang professionally for years as I started out in musical theater.

I love the sheep background. And I think we could have a stand-off in the desk clutter competition but I’m hoping mine will ease up in a week or so when I have time to handle it. As for now, I close the curtain over the door and hope no one is curious!
Claudia says
Yes! Thank goodness this mess is tucked away upstairs in our office!
