A Potpourri

March 22, 2010 at 6:00 am by Claudia

First up: McCoy Pottery, specifically, this green vase. This is a more recent acquisition – I love the lines of the piece and the little leaves at the top of each handle. This vase lives on top of my white cupboard in the living room, along with 2 other green vases and a green jardiniere.

Since it is Spring and Easter is coming, I thought I’d share some of the egg cups from my collection. Most of my egg cups are what are called figural egg cups. I am entranced by the whimsical figures on each of them – they take me back to my childhood.

This is one of the seven dwarfs – Doc. These egg cups were issued in 1939 and are very collectable. I only have one but would love to collect all of them, including Snow White. They come up for auction occasionally on eBay and are pretty expensive.

Humpty Dumpty – made in England.

This is one of my very favorites. I remember bidding right up to the close of the auction on eBay! I really wanted it. The rabbit as artist is so delightful!

I’ll be sharing some more of my egg cups in the next few weeks.

Square #22:

The stage with a traditional red velvet curtain. I have logged thousands and thousands of hours in theaters since I began to act at the age of 12. For many years I was an actress, earned my MFA in Acting, acted professionally and eventually became a teacher and coach of actors. I have my home here at Mockingbird Hill Cottage and then there is my other home – the inside of a theater.

Have a wonderful Monday.

    Good morning Claudia,
What a beautiful vase and your collection of egg cups is very unique. Love all the fun characters. Oh and how sweet are all your embroidered squares. I went back to the day you started your first one. What a sweet idea. Can’t wait to see more. My favorites so far have to be the one with the Hydrangeas and the one of Mr. Riley’s head…oh wait, I like the one with your blue glasses too…too cute. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day. Until next time.

    Hugs and Kisses,
    ♥Ana

    P.S.
Please know that I will be keeping Mr. Lee and all his family in prayer.

Claudia, you have such cool things. I love every one of those egg cups, and I don’t think I would have ever noticed them on their own — so thanks for calling my attention to another bit of loveliness that I was overlooking.

    Loving the new banner, too!

I love the egg cups. When you finish this sampler of squares you are going to have a real treasure of life memories!!! I hope you are writing down what each square means to you so that you can attach it to the back of the frame.

Oh Claudia…I’ve been out of blogland for a week recovering from the flu, and am just getting around to visiting everyone. I’m so sorry your FIL is ill, but glad to know your hubby can be with him.

I love each and every square you do as well…what a great way to record yourself in stitches. :)

And I’ve been seeing several McCoy pieces here and there, but my budget is pretty tight these days…I hope to start investing in a few pretties this summer.

    Hi Claudia,
The McCoy vase is the prettiest shade of green. Very nice.
But, the egg cups are the piece de resistance! The little Doc dwarf is so cute, Humpty Dumpty and the rabbit, so sweet. I did not realize that egg cups depicted characters….so where have I been???
Like your stage stitch piece. Now, I’ve learned something about you today, that you were and are an actress, however I’m not surprised.

    hugs

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
