Priming & Spoiler

December 20, 2021 at 9:41 am by Claudia

I spent the afternoon putting primer on the dollhouse.

Where I started.

First coat.

Second coat.

I’m going for a third coat today. I’m using Killz primer and it’s still taking more than one or two coats.

Yikes. Remember the red and brown interior rooms? Imagine how much primer it’s going to take to create a neutral palette! Yikes again.

I haven’t painted the porch floor yet, because I’m not sure if I’ll paint it or cover it in some wood veneer. Heck, I have no idea what color I’ll paint the dollhouse – though, just as happened with Hummingbird Cottage, a neutral color seems more and more appealing to me. Maybe just because I’m so glad to see that garish yellow disappear. Or something tone-on-tone, if that’s correct, like the photo above. A subtle main color with white accents.

As is always the case because I rehab dollhouses that have already been constructed, getting around areas like the porch posts and trim takes some body contortion. But it sure is nice being able to stand up at the work table Don gave me and work on the dollhouse.

For those of you who asked:

Don playing Spoiler. That circular metal disk is part of the resonator. It’s a Gretsch, which is a great brand.

Okay. Have to get a move on.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

I think the guitar is beautiful.
I am also glad that you are home, after seeing the increase in covid cases in NYC.

    Take Care,
    Kaye

you’re making progress on the dollhouse and it looks good (though i do love yellow, including on houses)! glad it’s enjoyable for you.

that guitar is beautiful. and your hard work away from home – and don’s talent – made it happen! am sure you’ll both enjoy that.

been taking it easy the past couple of days to try to prevent a headache, etc. from turning into something worse that would mess with Christmas plans. have gifts to wrap, some more to get and three kinds of treats to make. otherwise okay here. had an interview last friday and was told the decision would be made early this week. it’s not a job in my field so the pay will (trying to think positive) be less, but a change sounds good.

hope you stay safe and have a nice day.

I like yellow, too, but not neon yellow, which this house was.

Crossing my fingers that you get the job, Kathy!

      Stay safe.

Personally, I like the muted yellow. While I know you are going to use muted colors….it is quite an improvement just as it sits.

Great pic of Don! Enjoy your day…busy one here, but happy one indeed. I love it when I have my kiddos back home to the nest! ;)

The dollhouse looks much better already. I like the pale yellow of the 2nd coat. Whatever you choose will be an improvement.
Spoiler is a beautiful guitar. I bet the sound is beautiful too.
    Take care

I hope you are starting to feel better yourself for Christmas.

Love the dollhouse. I did not care for the bright yellow either. I know what you will choose
    will be perfect.

You have me hooked on Blythe dolls. I have bought two and I love them.

Glad to see Don enjoying himself (and his present). Super.

As to the dollshouse: one of mine is that way, pale yellow with white trim. Veddy veddy English, that combo. But still a bit meh.

I sort of like it, but I prefer – I think – a cream and white combination, sort of like what is happening in the photo of the second coat.

      Stay safe, Petra!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
