I found this vintage putz house last year, I believe. I really love it. I now have 3 of them, but I’m always on the search for more.
Oh, yours truly is very, very tired. I got through the day yesterday and, happily, they let me out earlier than I had expected, so I was able to get home in time for dinner.
Don’s excitement about Christmas is surprising this year. He wanted a real tree. He brought it up right after Thanksgiving. Instead of decorating it on my own as has been the case for the past few years, he helped string the lights and insisted on helping with the decorating. He picked me up at the bus station last night and when we walked in the door, I heard Christmas music playing on the radio. He had turned it on right before he left to get me. This morning while I write this post, he’s making breakfast and he just said “Can I turn on some Christmas music?”
Who is this person?
Today, Little Z goes to visit Santa with my sister and brother-in-law. They make a big deal out of it, taking him to see Santa and then going out to dinner afterwards. How I wish we could be there! He still believes in Santa. Watching a child you love talk to Santa and witnessing the magic of Christmas as seen through his eyes is priceless. That boy is so dear. We’ll call him this weekend and ask him all about it.
Currently reading The Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz. He is such an inventive writer. He regularly takes on the murder mystery and skews it just a little, resulting in a fresh take. If you haven’t read him, I recommend his books highly.
Okay, my friends. I have some things I have to do today – just a few. Mainly, I’m taking it easy today and on the weekend.
Happy Friday.

Don needs to comfort his mind. This music may help a bit. I tend to Sinatra and the Rat Pack every Christmas Season although I’m rather a Rock-girl. Bing Crosby is the icing on the cake!

And Johnny Mathis! Thanks, Helga.

glad you made it home earlier than expected and that you and don have each other. what a nice return home that was with Christmas music playing for you!
and that your little z gets to see santa … very sweet, indeed.
hope you can take it easy today and this weekend.
after a couple milder days, the temperatures here are expected to drop about 20 degrees. not into it, but at least it’s dry so everyone gets around more safely and hopefully i can get some gifts bought. might have to look for a cute little putz house for myself (love that such fragile things have been loved and taken care of to last over so many years)! :)
happy friday and weekend!

Enjoy your upcoming weekend, Kathy! We have a few flakes falling, but they won’t stick, thank goodness!

Christmas music ~ another soothe-the-soul thing I indulge in daily! And, a few Christmas movies from the past which I have loved for years, always bring a kind of peace to envelop me!! Whatever it takes…
Hope you both get the time to read and gather your thoughts today to bring you some peace and joy, also!! Those white lights are like magic for me at this time of year!
Claudia says
I love Christmas movies, but Don would like us to wait until it’s closer to Christmas and I agree. But we’ll be watching them for sure! Thanks, Chris!

I think I would enjoy Christmas more if it didn’t start so early. I liked how you waited to closer to Christmas to decorate.
Decorating when the spirit moves you is the best. I am so happy you and Don are enjoying the season.
Keep the photos coming. Your decorations help put me in the Christmas mood.
Claudia says
I agree about it starting way too early in the stores, etc. Makes me nuts! We just wait until we feel the tug and then we decorate. Thanks, my friend.

I like to listen to Christmas music while I’m baking cookies. Two CD’s I have that are my favorite are Manhattan Transfer and Lady Antebellum. Eclectic tastes for sure!
I read The Magpie Murders awhile ago and really enjoyed it. I also enjoy your sister’s blog. I hope she posts plenty of pictures!
Claudia says
We’ve had that Manhattan Transfer CD since we lived in San Diego! It’s a favorite for sure.
Thanks, Carol!

Claudia says
I think he’s going to get some elevator rides while they’re out! Thanks, Tammy.

Yes, catch up on some much-needed rest, Claudia!
Love the putz house; it’s in such good shape. No pressure (ha!) but am also waiting to get a glimpse again of your treasures from Crystal. You always set up nice vignettes at Christmas.
Hey, I only JUST got that Manhattan Transfer Christmas CD a few weeks ago! Where has it been all my life? Love MT. I listened to their “Brasil” LP about two hundred times in 1987. It highlights Cheryl B.’s amazing vocals on ‘So You Say’ and of course David Sanborn on his incredible sax. I had the privilege of seeing MT and Sanborn ‘live’ in concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl (outdoor concert venue in SoCalif), summer of 1988. One of my life’s highlights. It was a stellar August at the Bowl that year; in between MT and Sanborn, Rod Stewart also performed. I was so broke; the tickets were expensive and my paycheck was modest; what can I say, they were moments to be lived when I was that younger, single gal (I could always eat…later!).
Claudia says
Yes, I’ve seen them in concert as well. Saw them when they were touring years ago. I’ve always loved them, from the very beginning.
Thanks, Vicki.

Little Z will enjoy his phone call without you and Don as much as he’ll enjoy his visit with Santa.
Enjoy your Christmas tree. We cannot have one because of three rambunctious cats.
I read Magpie Murders some time ago and enjoyed it. Last week, I saw Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and Knives Out and thoroughly enjoyed both, with Knives Out edging Neighborhood out just a teeny bit. But, both are quite different. Knives Out was a fun romp through the twists and turns of a clever murder mystery and Daniel Craig is a hoot with his accent…I won’t give away what it is supposed to be. You might enjoy his performance, Claudia, if for nothing else but professional observance!
Claudia says
We very seldom go out to the movies, too much rustling from the viewers, but mostly – too expensive for us! Everything goes to video/streaming so quickly these days, I know we’ll see them soon. Thanks, Wendy!

I think it is wonderful that Don is in the Christmas spirit this year. I’m finding that as I get older It brings me comfort. xo Laura
Claudia says
I think you’re right. It brings comfort – and we need that now! Thanks, Laura.

I have no concrete idea why Don is more festive this year…but, Jim and I have a good case of it too. Christmas things we haven’t done for years suddenly feel timely. Even my son asked me…”Are you feeling more festive this year?” Yes!
I do love your little putz house all decorated…is that the only one you have, or are there others. Hope you get sometime this weekend to just relax. I’ve got my first Christmas movie all lined up…how about you? ;)
Claudia says
I have four of them. I’ll take a picture of all of them soon.
No Christmas movie lined up yet because Don likes to hold off until closer to Christmas. (I’ll sneak in White Christmas, though!)
Thanks, Donna!

By your title, I first thought you meant “putzing around” the cottage, doing things here and there. I wondered why they are called “putz houses,” so I looked around and found this interesting site. I started with the history, but there is so much more. Not sure if you already know about this site:

I know why they’re called putz houses, but I haven’t seen this site. I’ll go on over there. Thanks so much, Sylvia!

I love Christmas music. Our friend gifted us with the Manhattan Transfer CD. It is lovely. Hope you can relax this weekend. We are going to put our tree up tomorrow.

The Putz house is lovely. We have a collection of them from many years ago. Some are not in good shape. Our live tree is 8 feet. It should be an adventure getting it up tomorrow.
Marilyn
Claudia says
But what a nice adventure!
Claudia says
Have fun putting up the tree, Marilyn. I am definitely going to relax this weekend. Thank you!
jeanie says
Well, I say three cheers to Don! Yay and terrific that he’s in the holiday swing!
Your Putz house is so sweet. I love those and don’t often see vintage ones in good shape. It’s looking a lot like christmas in your world!
Claudia says
It is. I’m really into it this year. After years of loss and Don being away one Christmas, it’s so nice to feel this level of enthusiasm. Thanks, Jeanie.
