Another frigid morning here at the cottage. I’m currently covered in an afghan, with fingerless gloves on, waiting for the temperature to rise. But this will be a walk in the park compared to Saturday evening into Sunday afternoon, when we will have dangerous wind chills of 25 – 35 degrees below zero. As in almost immediate frostbite if you go outside.
Are you kidding me??
I am trying very hard not to wish away the present. As I age, time seems to go by much more quickly than it did when I was young. HOWEVER, I am ready to move on from this winter, which has been nothing but a pain in the tush.
At some point next week, it will be warmer than it has been. I cannot wait.
So today I’ll run to the grocery store for any last minute items we need, as neither of us wants to step outside on Sunday.

Speaking of a pain in the tush, painting this little sideboard has been exactly that. It’s a piece of cheap dollhouse furniture with a glossy finish that the former owner sent along with the house. Since the Beacon Hill is so large, I figured I’d keep it and use it in the third floor hallway. I had a can of primer on hand, but since it has been at least 3 years since I have used it, it was in bad shape. So I sanded the wood as best I could and painted over the finish with a brown color as the base coat. But I clearly didn’t sand it thoroughly because paint wasn’t adhering everywhere. I added another coat – same problem. My vision for it was a cheery yellow color. But again – same problem. I finally hauled out the primer and mixed it with some water, painting it late in the day yesterday. That is what you see in this photo.
I’m all about saving money as I work on this house – I have to! – and I know I have to order wallpaper soon, so I was trying to get by with what I had on hand. I get some points for that, don’t I?
Lesson learned. Buy some fresh primer and use it.
Today, I will make some decisions about what wallpaper I want to use in a couple of rooms.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

I love those little sheep and ducks – so cute.
Hope it warms up soon for you.
Not until the middle of next week, unfortunately.
Stay safe, Ellen.
Hi Claudia!
I am right there with you on the cold temps. Enough already! I Like Winter if it isn’t mean…. this one has been not very nice!
The little cabinet that has “challenged” your patience will end up looking utterly charming as an old vintage piece that got painted many times over it’s long life! The layers and imperfections will add to that feel. I am sure it will eventually accept the paint you have chosen. I know how difficult it is (even in RL) to cover over the older dark stained pieces of furniture. More than one layer of primer is advised or the color of the new paint won’t “read” right. I am looking forward to seeing it “become” what you envision! And wallpaper choices are always a challenge for me…. possibly why I usually just paint instead! Keep on going and you’ll get there! :) I’m so glad you are “putzing” around!
Thank you so much, Betsy!
Stay safe.
dear Claudia/Don — have always liked the sheep in your 1st pic — can you tell I’m a country girl?? with Scottish genes?? HaHa !! we still have 4-5 inches snow/ice from a week ago — it is solid ice cubes now — so sick and tired of winter but guess what MORE snow/ice on the way today/tonite — only 1-2 inches but really insulting to me!!
Back in the “dark Ages” when I was crafting/painting, always hated how paint/primers dried up b/f completing a piece — I have been known to cover inside the can with plastic wrap on the leftovers — not much help but it felt like I was “doing” something HaHa!!
hope you all stay safe/healthy
We have about an inch coming tonight.
Thank you, Linda!
Stay safe.
those are dangerous lows. stay safe!
i like your idea of painting the sideboard a cheerful yellow. best wishes on the search for wallpaper. you’ll get it to your liking!
not much news from here lately … making appointments (taxes, vision/eye health), the usual chores, a daily walk and knitting.

Well, it might be a pain but when you get it right it will look terrific!
I hear you on the cold. You are worse than here, but nothing below 20 is good! We’re due for a temp drop the weekend.
LOVE your Putz sheep!
It’s so cold! And getting more cold tomorrow and Sunday.
Thanks, Jeanie.
