Well, some time has helped. I will not forget how Joe was treated – that is a given. The media and big money have a lot to answer for. But I’m thrilled with how quickly everyone got on board with Kamala and in my Threads feed, there is an excitement that I haven’t seen for a long while. Let’s go!
I did mow on Monday and ended up mowing the entire front lawn, then up the hill to the side of the house, finishing with the secret garden. I took a long break half-way through. But it was humid and I was really tired at the end. Nevertheless, it was satisfying and I think it did help my mood. Yesterday was spent trying to find small boxes in which to pack a couple of Etsy items, which I then shipped. I had another Etsy sale last night for a vase I’ve had listed since I first reopened the shop. I thought it would never sell. So I will pack it up this morning and send it off. I’m using the money from these sales to buy back my little Wren doll. Hopefully, there will be more sales soon. Fingers crossed!
I finished Bring Up the Bodies, the second book in the Wolf Hall trilogy, last night. Heavens, Hilary Mantel was an exquisite writer – the description of the execution of Anne Boleyn was so gripping. I’ll not soon forget it. I’ve ordered the third and final book, The Mirror and the Light, and it should arrive tomorrow. In the meantime, I was in the queue in our library system for Clete by James Lee Burke, which was published about 6 weeks ago. I put a hold on it early, was #3 in the queue, but for weeks there was no movement whatsoever. I kept thinking something had gone wrong. I could see that it was “on the shelf” in a number of libraries, but there continued to be no movement. Finally, I was #2, then #1, then NOTHING. Over the weekend, I took matters into my hands and scanned the list to see if it was on the shelf in a library relatively close to me. It was – just about 15 minutes south of us. I called them Sunday morning to verify that it was on the shelf – yes – then I drove there and checked it out.
This comes under the heading of “Why didn’t I think of this before??”
So, today I will begin to read Clete, written by one of my favorite authors.
It’s been raining and that will continue through Thursday. (I’m glad I mowed!)
Don just finished a book by Jim Harrison, another favorite author of mine (and a Michigander) who died a couple of years ago. He’s also very much into Walt Whitman at the moment.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.
Shanna says
Oh good, you got Clete! I’ve had it on hold forever, it seems, but I don’t think my library has it yet. So many of my requests and holds lately have gone unanswered.
I’m so glad to see the excitement surrounding Kamala, though. As politicians go, Joe Biden will always be tops in my book. Maybe the most decent and effective president in my long memory.
Claudia says
I think so. The best in my lifetime.
Stay safe, Shanna.

I started Jacqueline Winspear’s last book in her Maisie Dobbs series – The Comfort of Ghosts. I am really zooming through it as I really like this series.
I’m glad that people are rallying around Kamala. I think this will make undecideds and young people pay more attention to the race.
Claudia says
Fingers crossed, Ellen.

I was upset at how Joe Biden was treated as well. My anger is subsiding, only because I’ve seen how excited everyone (well, almost everyone) is for Kamala for President! Joe is an extraordinary President…and will continue to be for the remainder of his term. He is also very selfless in putting country before himself…a lesson I wish that other people would take note. We are lucky to have him. That being said….Go Kamala!
My college roommate (going on 54 years as besties), is in town for a few days…and that is always a fun time. Happy reading! ;)
Claudia says
He is an extraordinary man and a true patriot.
Have fun with your pal, Donnamae.
Stay safe.

glad you’re feeling better. hopefully don is, too. everyone.
what beautiful flowers (photos).
glad you got the book!
i finished “leave the world behind” by rumaan alam in two days. liked the writing (though it took a few pages after having just read the nine “little house on the prairie” books), but had mixed feelings about the story until i read an interview with the author that answered a few questions for me. yesterday i started reading a spy thriller called “the charm school” by nelson demille and from 1988, my sister, mother and one of my mother’s friends loved it. so far, so good for me, too (98 pages in). it’s set so far in russia and i’ll just share one little bit because it applies here at mhc, i think … in response to someone’s comment (in the story) about how “drab” the housing was there, another character talks about how many citizens there buy flowers and consider them to be “russian soul food”. i love flowers, but would consider all of nature (save bugs and big scary things) to be nourishing. and wish we’d get so much rain. :)
hope you all have a very good day. stay safe.
kathy

Thanks for sharing that, Kathy.

I feel much the way you do, Claudia. I am thrilled for Kamala!! I truly hope it is a corner turned for the better. We loved Joe’s speech this evening, he is such a wonderful person. I do hope that people will see the BIG difference between the two parties in the next 105 days. Of course there are those who will always vote for the cheeto no matter what horrific or disgusting things he says or does. ugh.
Your flowers look great. We worked out in the yard today pulling weeds and trimming things. It is a never-ending job. But it does look nice now!! It sure goes crazy in a hurry!! Hope you had a great day! Take care.
Claudia says
Today is my day to pull weeds, etc.
Stay safe, Chris.

I was appalled at the treatment of Joe Biden. I am truly happy at the support for Kamala and now I have HOPE again. So glad you are selling some of your treasures and I hope you get your Wren doll back soon. Hugs!
Claudia says
Me too! I really miss that little doll.
Stay safe, Linda.

Your blog doesn’t automatically pop up in my email ( as it used to several years ago) so I look up your blog every few weeks and it is sort of fun to read a few weeks of posts, like reading a short story!!!!
At least you have rain. Our weather in Calfornia is HOT but I have worked really hard to keep up with yard work. Recently my daughter took me to Lake Tahoe for a mini vacation. Are you familiar with Lake Tahoe? I feel like it is one of California’s treasures that changes with the time but still is surviving.
I really think it is sad how our President has been treated. I feel very strongly we have to get behind Kamala and I plan on helping her campaign .
I have sort of neglected my “girls”. One of them had her leg fall off a d I am having a hard time getting it back on? They all are so cute and special and soon I plan on having a complete day to spend with them.
Happy summer to you and Don.
Claudia says
The blog hasn’t gone out via email for several years, Linda. (I stopped the emails because the free version was discontinued and I wasn’t going to pay for that service.)
Yes, it is beautiful around Lake Tahoe.
Thanks so much, Linda.
Stay safe.

I was also angry about the treatment of Joe Biden, and sad when he called it quits. He’s been the best president of my lifetime, and that includes his handing over the reins of power, an act of such patriotism, selflessness, and love the orange nightmare cannot even fathom. Sunday-Monday I was reading a novel titled Memory Piece by Lisa Ko, about three Asian American friends who come and go throughout each other’s lives. The book ends in the near future, where a lot of crappy things happen and people of color exist in the margins, when they’re allowed to exist at all. Sunday I was in despair, thinking that when the orange nightmare wins, this is our future. And then it all changed Monday night with Kamala’s speech and the way everyone has rallied behind her. Despair to excitement, along with much gratitude to Joe Biden. How lucky we have been to have had him for the last 4 years.
Claudia says
Oh, we are so lucky to have had him!
Stay safe, Di.
