Random Thoughts on Wednesday

July 26, 2023 at 9:08 am by Claudia

Taken not long after we mowed the entire front lawn yesterday morning.

I pushed for it because I knew we had to get it done before we had more rain and 4 days of very hot weather, starting today. I was right. We had a huge thunderstorm yesterday afternoon – another bout of torrential rain and endless thunder and lightning.

In all my years, and as you know there are a lot of them, I’ve never witnessed so many thunderstorms in the course of one summer. Honestly, we’ve averaged 2 or 3 a week, every week. Sometimes more. Most summers, we get them, yes, but every once in while, not a parade of storms like we’ve had this summer. I’ve never seen anything like it.

I love a good storm, but it’s safe to say that I’m over it. Enough already.

I swear that I can smell smoke out there, but the weather app says nothing about it. No air quality warning. But my sense of smell is pretty darned exceptional, so I won’t be surprised if we get some kind of warning tomorrow. Anyway, we plan on staying inside for the next four days as the heat index will reach the high nineties and the humidity will be off the charts.

Yuck.

I saw Buddy yesterday. He was out and about and at one point,  I had to make an appearance to get him out of the garden. That scamp! I think he might have taken over as the main tenant under the maple tree. I can’t be absolutely sure of course, but he is the only one of the siblings who regularly pops out of that hole.

We finished up the deductions and I sent them off to our accountant out in California. Yay! Done.

I took a minute to take a picture of two of the girls:

Mabel is wearing a new dress from our friend Woolly Rockers who lives in England. This is a ‘hula girl’ dress (check out the pattern) and I love it.

I’m not sure what they’re looking at – the hydrangea? A bird? Our neighbor’s house? Who knows?

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Claudia, your front lawn looks so green and nicely mowed. In our front yard most of the green of the grass is due to the shade provided by the tree in front by the sidewalk! I love the dresses the girls are wearing, especially that hula dress! I’d like to have one like that myself, looks cool and comfortable.

It looks very cool! My girls have far nicer clothes than I do!

      Stay safe, Barrie.

getting tax paperwork in (or any other necessary thing done) feels good, doesn’t it? off the to-do list. off the mind. off the shoulders. good for you. same for mowing your beautiful lawn in between storms, that hot, humid weather and more smokiness. i know you’d like to be outside more, but staying in a comfortable, cozy, charming home (that’s yours) sounds good, too.

fun dress for mabel! i like it, too … i love patterned fabric that from a distance looks like abstraction, but up close shows it’s detail and is something on repeat. i think the girls are helping watch for buddy.

voice shots done yesterday afternoon. more medicine than in previous shots (because those did nothing to help). if this was enough, my voice is to sound breathy and higher for a couple weeks (ugh), then get to my usual pitch and hopefully without the quake, the sound stopping every few words and hoarseness … for maybe a few months. hope so. while i am tired of being asked if i am sick or to repeat myself, most importantly i want my family to be able to hear me more easily/pleasantly. :l

i need to get some things done around here, hopefully with time to paint. still reading, too! will also for sure spend time with members of my family so that will make it better. :)

hope you, don and everyone else have a great day. stay safe in every way!

I hope the shots help your voice, Kathy. I know how hard it must be for you.
      Sending prayers for positive results.

      Stay safe.

I love the look of a freshly mown lawn.
We have been having beautiful weather and not super humid. Today we have thunderstorms and I was just thinking how nice it is for a change from sunny skies. I can imagine how tired you are of rain by now.

    Question:
I have a hydrangea that is georgous this year. All the flowers are blue except one that is very pink. I am puzzled since it is all the same bush. Do you have any idea why this would happen Claudia?
    Take care

I don’t know. I suppose the soil is a big over alkaline or acid (I can’t remember which.) One of them brings blue flowers, the other brings pink.I have a small hydrangea that hasn’t bloomed at all this year!

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

Just looked at the Wolly Rockers etsy store. Beautiful little dresses. I loved the circus one and the kitty one. Mabel’s hula girl dress is so charming. Actually both dresses are cute. The picture of your house is frame-worthy, Claudia. So much rain, but at least the grass stays green. Stay cool. Hugs, Elaine

We’re going to have the same temps today through Saturday. I’m with you! I am not a fan.

      Stay safe, Linda.

Your cottage looks wonderful after all your hard work. What a workout mowing in that awful humidity. Glad you can retreat to the air conditioning when you’re done. We had thunderstorms go through early today after which the air is just like a wet towel in the face. I consider myself productive if I’m able to pull an armful of weeds in the length of time I can stand to be out there.

    Stay cool,
    Kay

Yeah, we are going to be really suffering through Saturday, so I’ll go out and water a bit this morning and then – in the house all day long.

      Stay safe, Kay.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
