Well, here we are in 2020, me in my flannel pajamas and my husband’s socks.
It’s a new year and we’re ready to go!
New Year’s Eve was quiet, as is our wont, and we had a lovely dinner and watched more of Unbelievable. We were in bed well before midnight, but I was awake for a while and heard the beginning of fireworks at midnight.
Today, some errands and, sadly, the Christmas tree has to be taken down. It’s very, very dry, so it’s time. And thankfully, I’m in the mood to take it down – I wasn’t before today. We’ve really loved this little tree, it’s been a beautiful beacon of wonder and light for over a month and we are so grateful for it. We’ll take it outside and place it in the woods for all the birds and animals.
And then I’ll vacuum for hours.
I hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s Eve and Day.
By the way, I added to my Dollhouses/Minis section on the navigation bar. I realized that I only had Hummingbird Cottage and Don’s Studio up there, so I added some info about the Modern Dollhouse, Dove Cottage, and the two vintage dollhouses, which I’ll add to as I work on them. I decided to name the white vintage dollhouse in the den The Cabin, because I think of it as a slightly rustic retreat. I don’t have a name for the newest vintage dollhouse as yet – that will come in time – or the Modern Dollhouse – again, in time. Anyway, Barbara, one of the readers of this blog, asked me to post pictures of all the dollhouses and you can find them there.
Can you tell I’m in dollhouse mode?
Happy Thursday.

Thanks for adding the dollhouses/minis to your nav bar. That will be helpful, looking back to times before I discovered you!
It sounds like a grand way to begin the new year! Onward!

You’re welcome, Jeanie. Onward, indeed!

tree or no tree your living room looks lovely. I would enjoy it so much. We had fireworks, they sounded more like bombs going off, most of the night. Also at 1:09 am and 4:53 am. I am amazed my daughter slept through it.

It’s so selfish for anyone to set them off in the middle of the night. Makes me crazy! Thanks, Jan.

Even though I don’t collect dollhouses myself, I so enjoy your collection. I’ll echo the thank you’s…it’s helpful to see them all. (It appears I was getting them mixed up.)
We just got home from running errands ourselves…too many people out with the same idea I guess. So now, it’s time to take down the tree and outdoor lights. While it’s sad…it signifies new beginnings to me…and I’m certainly ready for some new beginnings.
Enjoy the rest of your day! ;)

We just finished taking everything down and vacuuming and…. I’m very tired. It isn’t good for my back.
So I just sat down and that’s it for the day! Thanks, Donna.

glad you had a nice new year’s eve and that you have plans for the dollhouses.
i thought you were calling the latest one the “folk art dollhouse”. whatever, i am sure you will pick a great name for it. i think the idea of naming one’s home is lovely.
really nice of you to leave your Christmas tree out back to help creatures who can use it. good luck with the vacuuming up of all the needles that have dropped off!
warm here for january (about 50 degrees) and i’d really like to get my car washed, among other things, but i am still sick. this is day eight. i know you and don both know all-too-recently what that’s like … ugh.
hope 2020 will be a great year for everyone!

I was calling it that, but that’s just temporary, as was TSP (Top Secret Project) temporary for what became Don’s Studio and the Rescued from the Dump Dollhouse temporary for what is now Dove Cottage.
I hope you feel better soon. I understand, it’s a pain in the tush. Just baby yourself and don’t take on too much until you’re feeling much better.

It is sad to take the tree down. I took the outdoor decorations down yesterday. We are packing up some of the indoor decorations. We will take the tree down over the weekend. We have to put the tree at the curb. The sanitation picks it up and send it to a park for mulch.

I miss the tree, but I do like things back in order! Thanks, Marilyn.

I was just reviewing all your wonderful dollhouses on your navigation bar, when it struck me: you were looking for a copy of Jane Eyre recently, and Caroline of Hummingbird Cottage had one all along!
Claudia says
I tried to read it but the print was too small!
Thanks, Jenny!

It sounds like a truly lovely holiday season for you and Don despite the colds you were both fighting and the sometimes challenging weather. That tree was magical! I’ll be looking at the dollhouse/mini section today. Thanks for arranging it for us. I love The Cabin. I’ve always enjoyed movies about Family Cabins where generations gather each year; sometimes drama, tragedy, or rebirths ensue. Or sometimes a new family altogether finds one. So many opportunities for a place out of time. Happy January!

It was a lovely holiday. I’m sad to see it end, but that’s the way it goes, I guess!
I love The Cabin, too. I plan to do more with it this year, Nora. Thank you!

I love being able to check out the doll houses! It is always hard to take down the tree and lose the magical lights for me. Sigh!
