Rearranging, Allergies, Square #19

March 19, 2010 at 8:28 am by Claudia

I can tell Spring is here by the warmer temperatures, the tiny little buds on my plants, having the windows open…and my gosh darn allergies. I can’t stop sneezing, my head is stuffed up and I’m having trouble hearing out of one ear. Why is it that the beauty of Spring brings yucky allergies along with it? Doesn’t seem fair, does it?

Our living room is tiny and there are certain pieces of furniture that can’t be moved: the piano, the loveseat, the sideboard. The chairs, however, are another story. All three chairs are in new positions. This started when Riley was really having trouble with stairs and Don and I decided to keep him out of the den for a few days (there are 2 steps down into the den.) Since I blog in the den and Riley always wants to be near me, we moved the most comfortable chair in the living room (the yellow one) nearer to an outlet. That meant the red chair had to move to the other side of the loveseat and this wicker rocker moved to the space vacated by the yellow chair. We’re now back to blogging in the den. However, we like the new arrangement so we’re going to go with it for a while. Sometimes necessity forces one to make a perfect change.

Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while might remember this photo of Riley:

That was the idea behind Square #19:

The adorable back of Mr. Riley’s head with the one thing that is always on his mind – food. I tried to stitch the letters for food in what doggie thoughts/writing might look like.

Lee remains the same. The sedation was eased yesterday and Lee opened an eye and Don talked to him a bit – telling him where he was, what day it was, etc. Much of the time for the family is spent waiting. Waiting for any sign of improvement. My hope is that something very positive happens before Don has to leave on Monday night. He would be able to leave on a hopeful note. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers…if you don’t mind, could you keep them coming?

Hi Claudia! My gosh, YES, I’m suffering with the allergies too!.. Sneezing, congested, runny nose. I’m AFRAID to open the windows yet!.. UGH! I feel just miserable by nighttime, when it seems to be at its worst! The non-drowsy stuff I take during the day seems to help, but I’ve got to find a better night-time allergy relief product, hopefully sometime today! Sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Prayers are on the way, and hope he is feeling better soon. ~tina

    Hi Claudia:
Love the progress you’re making on your squares project. I actually wish I’d joined the group to participate! Perhaps I can get the rules from you and do my own during the year?

I’ll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers this week. Hope you and Don are back together again soon with good news.

    xoxo

The doggie square is so cute and what a great idea. So sorry to hear about your Father in Law. Hope there is improvement soon.

I love the square that you dedicated to Riley – how is he doing?

Sorry to hear about your allergies – they are definitely not fun to deal with!

And you don’t have to ask about prayers for your Lee, I have him and your entire family in my prayer book!

    Enjoy your weekend!

I have the same living room issues. Small room, with little space for rearranging. But I do a mirror image flip with the seasons, its my only option! My bedroom is worse. No changes at all in there. So I repaint every couple of years for a change.

Best wishes for recovery for Lee.

    Hi Claudia,
I’m continuing to send positive thoughts & prayers for Lee!
Love your first photo – very pretty!!! And your latest square is adorable.
Which brings me to… ta-daaaa, I’ve decided to join in the 39 Squares Project! Your words about necessity forcing change made me smile – I hurt my back last week and have to spend a LOT of time in bed, soooo I started embroidering. I LOVE embroidery and the time passes blissfully – I hope to post pics tomorrow. You have finished square 19 & I’m on 5! :)
    Cheers!

so I love your Riley square!
I hope that your allergies go away forever!
Please count my prayers in for your family.

Sweet Greetings from Frog Hollow Farm! It was nice to hear that your father in law is still improving, it’s so frustrating when it’s just waiting to see what happens. I always move our furniture, it’s something that I actually love doing, it’s almost a bit of a joke in our family. Love the back of Mr. Riley’s head – can’t help but smile when you look at it! Ciao, Bella!

I certainly will be praying for your father-in-law! I want to give you some words of encouragement too. Three years ago my 93 year old father, then 90 as well, developed pneumonia. The doctors told my mother and I to prepare for the end. It did look very grim for a time. Suddenly, he turned the corner and made a full recovery. It took some time, but he survived! It’s so important that Don took that trip to CA to be with his dad. I know the will to live is stronger than we realize. Stay positive! Believe in miracles!!

    Lots of love and blessings,
    Susan and Bentley

Hi Claudia, I’m sorry to hear that you have such bad allergies. This can ruin that wonderful spring season. How cute that Riley made it into one of your embroidered squares! I love the pillow on your wicker chair since 21 is one of my favorite numbers.
I hope you still can enjoy your weekend, even with the allergies!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
