A Request

April 27, 2012 at 8:16 am by Claudia

A look at the sky as I walked home the other evening. That’s the Capital Dome off to the left. I love moody skies – that’s what I call them. Clouds swirling, light peeking through, ever-changing; a reminder of the vastness beyond our little world. It helps to get me ‘right-sized.’ It’s so easy to get so wrapped up in the minutia of my life, forgetting that there is a world out there beyond my little world.

“We are such stuff as dreams are made on…”
 Prospero, The Tempest
I have some friends that I’ve known since my very young years. I’ve known Debbie since we were in kindergarden. We grew up about a block and a half from each other and spent countless hours together- playing, riding bikes, studying. Her mom was our Girl Scout Troupe Leader. I knew every inch of her house and she knew every inch of mine. When we were in high school, Debbie’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Eventually, decades later, it would come back and take her life.
Debbie has 2 sisters. Her older sister, Karen, fought cancer for many years and died last year. Debbie has been waging her own battle with this dreadful disease for over 7 years. I just received an update from her Care Pages site. After being in remission for a few years, it has come back. It’s the same cancer (non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) that took my brother’s life. All this as she is preparing to welcome her second grandchild. And as is always the case with Debbie, she is more concerned for her pregnant daughter than she is for herself.
There is a tie, a link, that binds us to everyone we have ever met. Debbie and I grew up together and were shaped by many of the same influences. I feel this cord that connects us stretching across the miles to Michigan, where she lives. She is so brave, so full of grace, despite what she is facing. I cannot get her out of my mind and that’s a good thing.
If you have a moment, please send some healing thoughts Debbie’s way. Surely our thoughts, our energy, focused and directed to one in need have a power we cannot even begin to comprehend.
Have a wonderful Friday.

I believe I know which Debbie you are talking about. She is a blogger friend of mine and such a sweet lady. I just told her yesterday that I’ve added her to my prayer list. Prayer is a powerful thing.

Claudia, I will be praying for your friend Debbie. I personally know what Non Hodgkins can do to a family. It took my sister-in-law 20 years ago. She was the ripe old age of 26 (sarcasim). In its wake she left us her then 4 year old daughter & 3 year old son. My mother-in-law has never been the same. My heart truly goes out to you, your family, your friend, & her family too. I like the moody sky too…Have a blessed weekend.

My prayers go out to your friend Claudia. I had a friend who died of lung cancer at 38. We had known each other since 7th grade and lost track for a while and then reconnected when out oldest sons started Kindgergarten together and became best friends. She found out she had it and 4 months later was gone. Now that we are the age we are, we are going to hear more and more about life long friends and acquaintances with similiar stories. Enjoy each day that is given to you I say! Never take one of them for granted.~Hugs, Patti

Life can be cruel for some of us. I have know a few people who have had the same as your friend, Debbie where cancer has run rampant through the whole family. Like warriors they have fought, some have won, but it is an ongoing war.

I will send positive thoughts and blessings to your friend. No one should have to fight for anything everyday of their lives. I hope that your friend gets well enough to enjoy the happiness of her second grandchild.

    blessings,
    Sue

Claudia, I just said a prayer for Debbie. I’m so sorry that she is going through this and hope that all the prayers and good thoughts being sent her way make a difference.

I loved your photo of the sky. My mom always loved a good storm and she would have loved a sky like that.

    Have a wonderful weekend,

Hi Claudia! Very, very sad! Life can sometimes be such a heart breaker! I have lifted Debbie up to the Lord and united my prayers to the prayers of all those who are praying for her. Situations like this one always bring tears to my eyes. At times like this, I feel so helpless. I’m just so grateful to have been given the gift of faith. Without doubt, the Lord is the greatest treasure of my life. He’s always there for us when we need Him and His Divine Mercy knows no bounds.

Although it’s true that everything must come to an end, sometimes there are miracles and healings. But if not, then I firmly believe that enormous strength and acceptance can be accorded to the person being prayed for. Prayer is never wasted and even when I don’t get what I prayed for, I know the person I prayed for has been granted something according to His wisdom.

I firmly believe that we can greatly help one another through the power of prayer! Thank you for asking for help for your friend.

    Hey pretty lady,

As you know, my mom has been battling Non Hodgkins Lymphoma as well. Thankfully she is currently in a “non-growth” period. Not exactly remission, just no current activity. I will gladly send some healing thoughts in the direction of your friend. I’m sending special thoughts your way, as well, since you’re so far from home and lonely. God Bless sweetie!

    Love ya’
    Meri

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
