Despite our best intentions, yesterday was just too windy to rake leaves. Cold and windy. All day long. So we went on an exploratory mission to this place:
I’d been wanting to check out the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in a neighboring town. It was much bigger than I expected – full of furniture, building supplies, old shutters, sinks, doors…you name it. We loved poking around in all the piles of old stuff. Don got some old metal pieces for a project he is planning. I got some vintage architectural pieces to use in some sort of yet-to-be-decided-upon project. We plan on going back weekly. You never know what might suddenly appear.
I had husband take a rather wind-blown picture of me in order to show the new flower pin on my jean jacket.
I love it. It makes me smile. Thanks, Debi! (Don’t like frown line between brows. Was I always frowning in my youth?)
Both of my rose bushes are flowering one more time. I cut some blooms yesterday and like the way they look next to the white pumpkins.
This is what some of us are up to this morning:
While others cannot use wind as an excuse any longer to avoid raking leaves. It’s sunny, beautiful and calm. Do you think I could train these dogs to hold a rake?
Donna says
Now THAT is my kind of store! Wish we had one in our area! You look darling in your new pin! And it has been sooooo windy here, too! Scout and Riley look oh-so-comfy in their cottage. Nope, I think it will just be you and Don out raking! haha … Donna

You are so cute….if you figure out a way to train your dogs to rake let me know…I have one that needs training.
Happy cozy fall day to you. xoxoxo

A fun little-bit-of-everything post. I’ve been meaning to tell you my husband has a leaf blower I’d be glad to secretly send you. They’re so noisy we actually have city ordinances limiting when they can be used. “~

Hi Claudia,
Love your little pin on the jacket. I feel like your doggies this morning. Just a little lazy, but happy!
Take care,

I love your face and no you were not always frowning in your youth, but I was. My lines are ten times deeper than yours, oh yeah, that is because I have teenagers.
Love and miss you,
Mere

Hi Claudia:
Looks like you had the same wind we’re experiencing where we are right now, too! I think your pups will be unable to help for the same reason that Fezzik will have to find another way to help Dad…no thumbs! hee hee
Have a great day and hope you’re enjoying a little sunshine.
xoxo

Hi, Claudia…
I’m so glad you got to go to the Restore. I have seen them, and I always seem to be in a hurry when I pass. Now, I’m determined to check the ones near here out! :-)
Those dogs are so cute, and somehow I can see them with little carts pulling a car full of leaves, but NOT raking! ;-)
I have “squint lines,” too, and I know that mine are from my light sensitive eyes and squinting to read. I’m wondering if it is a condition for readers, you think? I still have them even though I now wear real glasses and not just my cheaters. Somehow, my threats of botox keep falling on deaf ears when I try to convince Mr. Magpie I need to plump them out! But I know I squint, so I don’t know how much good it would do. ;-) I think you are beautiful with or without them, and I love the pin, too!
XOXO,
Sheila :-)

Looove that pin on your jacket– gorgeous!!
I love the Restore. We’ve got one in Sacramento. I’ve donated old light fixures, but I was never lucky enough to find anything to take home. Maybe I should just pop over there more often. I’d love to find some great shutters or architectural elements.
Okay, your pups look much like my Hagrid at this moment. I would love to see them pulling a cart of leaves. That would just be too cute!
Hugs,
Jill
Karen says
Love the pin! I have the darn frown lines too… ask myself the same question. *sigh*
The wind actually BLEW alot of our leaves into the woods.
If you figure out how to get them to use a rake, why not the pooper scooper too! My dogs flat out refuse..
Home and Heart says
Claudia you are lovely!! You shouldn’t apologize for a “Concentration” mark!! As I age I have changed my opinion on a lot of things. There are many different stages of beauty, and I wish we women
(me included) could start learning to love and appreciate ourselves as we are!! ( I will get down from my soapbox mow!!)

hi pretty claudia,
sounds like a fun weekly plan! i dig architectural salvage.

Oh HOW I wish we had a Habitat for Humanity store near here.
I have a matching line on my brow. Must be a teacher thing!
Love the flower pin!

The flower is just perfect on your jean jacket. I must find one for mine. Really looks nice and natural there.

We have a Restore near us and I have been a few times and bought a few items when they were 50% off. We also bought our dining room chairs there with Joe’s senior discount. So essentially I will only shop when we get some sort of sale price as the original prices are too high for me. I hope yours is more reasonable.
The French Bear says
Claudia, the pin looks great, and so does your smile!!!
It must be windy everywhere, cause the wind was howling up here too!
We love the Restore, there are some terrific finds there, and such good prices.
Look at those lovely puppies, I am sure you could train them to rake, or maybe they would just rather play in the leaves after you rake, he he!!!
I do have to catch up on all the happenings here on your blog…..sorry I seemed to be away more then visiting, it was a hard year for me. So many things have happened to all my friends in Blogland……
I’ll be back to read some more!
Hugs,
Margaret B

Sounds like a fun and creative store! I love your photo~ you look lovely and happy and your flower pin is charming!
Debbie says
Very neat Claudia! Wow…we have stores like that here in Maine too but Bobbie and I would rather go driving through the neighboring towns on Big Trash Day!! It was yesterday! I can’t tell you how many vans and trucks there were in front of and behind us searching out treasures. We got some good ones. Your dogs look so comfy cozy! The flower pin looks wonderful on your jacket!! I love your eyes…they are kind and loving and they have that look of a wonderful soul. I have a question for you….how do you put those links at the end of your post in? The.. You Might Like: section?
{Bellamere Cottage} says
Good morning Claudia…. I think I’d much rather go to the salvage place than rake leaves too. I saw one of these places on the way home from Bend, but we didn’t stop. It’s such a long drive and I’d already snagged a stop at Camas. Better not push my luck.
Love your flower pin…it’s quite cute on your little denim jacket.
We’re all getting little wrinkles and kinks…dang, I just hate ’em. I noticed one on my chin a few days ago. Does EVERYTHING have to go??? :-)
Love popping by Mockingbird Hill Cottage. It’s such a cozy little spot. It always makes me want to kick back and relax. Totally charming.
Have a great week!
Huggies,
Spencer

I can spend hours in a store like that. One of my favorites is Hippo Hardware in Portland, Oregon. Wish we had one like it in Boise. I have frown lines between my eyes too. I remember my Mom telling me not to frown when I was young. Did I listen ~ well apparently not. Well, off to work and then after work ~ leaf raking too.
Lots of love,
Susan and Bentley

No telling what you might get out of Riley if food is involved as a motivator! We have a Restore here. I’ve checked it out a few times. I need to go back. Love the flower pin on your jacket!

Coralie Cederna Johnson says
I love your treasure hunting photo! And it’s always more productive to hunt for goodies than to rake. I mean REALLY! Sounds like a perfect day!
Hugs,
Coralie
P.S. I don’t think those dogs have any intention of helping out with the work, other than looking adorable!
Tamara Jansen says
happy raking :)
Beverly says
Good for the two of you. We love finding treasures, too.
I love the photo of your roses with the white pumpkins.
Happy raking!
The Shanty Girl says
sounds like a neat store to check out! Love the rose on the jacket and wanted to say that I think squint lines look alot better than no lines at all. I have a friend that was complaining about her 1 and wanted botox, I said honey I have an 11 in between my eyes, I earned it. My hairdresser says that the more expressive you are the more lines you will have……..well…….I don’t want to spend life holding still in an expressionless face….so I must have really had some passionate conversations over the years with all my expressions flying but I just let my bangs get longer…….!
Have a wonderful day!!

SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT STORE, RILEY AND SCOUT LOOKS LIKE TWO TEDDY BEARS, GETTING THEIR WINTER COATS, AND SETTLING IN FOR A LONG WINTER’S NAP.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK.

Hi Claudia, I too have discovered the ReStore stores here in Orlando. I picked up two glass paned cabinet doors which I attached shutter-style to the interior of my bedroom window. Posted about it awhile ago, but they make me smile just looking at them.
Surely those dogs could be trained to rake?? Or at least sweep the leaves into piles with those gorgeous tails they have. Ann

I love Habitat for Humanity ReStores! Can’t wait to see what you do with what you bought. And I love your flower pin too. It looks wonderful on your jean jacket. ♥

Oh, you look so cute Claudia…you’ve made my day, seeing you wearing your rosette. I’m so glad you like it.
Sounds like you and hubby had a fun day…can’t wait to see what treasures you found…or what fun things you will do with them.
