Photo taken by Don in the wee hours of the morning. I missed my little girl.
What a long day yesterday was! Flying across Pennsylvania in an unbelievably loud prop plane. Transferring to another flight in Philadelphia after a two and a half hour layover.
And I’m going to be frank here, trapped inside a plane with the horrendous smell of someone repeatedly passing gas. Hey, we’ve all been there, haven’t we? I don’t know what that person ate, but it definitely contained something spicy. Between trying to block out the loud drone of the prop plane and the aforementioned gas, I definitely had my work cut out for me.
Glad to be home.
A quick peek out the window this morning revealed wildly overgrown garden beds, weeds that seem to have taken over, and a lot more blooms than when I left.
The first bloom of many of the roses is fading, but I see plenty of buds. The bugs have had a feeding frenzy this year, but we don’t use pesticides on this property, so it is what it is.
The impatiens that I nursed through the winter, pinched back, and despaired of ever blooming again?
Well, they’re blooming! Yippee! Don did a good job of watering. Unfortunately, he doesn’t weed, nor would I want him to because he’s unsure just what is a weed and what is a legitimate member of the garden bed.
I have never seen so many weeds, so you can see I will be busy this week! I already yanked some when I snuck outside to take these photos.
Today, we will have a little birthday celebration for sweet Don. Maybe Don will make me some dinner (fingers crossed.) We’ll watch 24. Don will open his presents.
The week ahead? My sister’s birthday. The anniversary of the day we met. My brother-in-law’s birthday. Celebrating the blessing of family.
Happy Monday.
Welcome home:)
Thank you, Karen!
Weeds or not, the shot of all your blooms around the porch is beautiful, Claudia. I imagine some porch sitting will be on the list of things to do.
Karen
Yes, that is a necessity, Karen!
Welcome home!
Thank you, Cathy!
That picture with the glider on your porch is absolutely beautiful! I have wanted a glider since I was a little girl and used to love my grandmother’s. I’ve never had a porch to put one on. We have a patio, but it’s not covered. It’s not much of a patio either, more a cracked cement slab, but I have plants and chairs and a table out there and a cheap green “grass” rug to cover most of the crack. I’ve done my best with little money and my only asset the time to fuss with the plants. You know about those conditions and that’s one of the reasons that I love your blog–that and the McCoy pottery that we both love! Glad you are safely home and that you got to make some money in a lovely place and while enjoying yourself.
We do the best we can do with the funds we have – or don’t have, Laura. I have to do that every day – but it is amazing what we can come up with. Your patio sounds lovely – you’ve made it cozy and welcoming.
The photo of you and Scout says it all. Welcome home!
Thanks, Sandra!
“Celebrating the blessing of family.” Yes, Yes and Yes.
Lovely picture of you. My favorite one next to the full length of you in pajamas in the kitchen. :D Don took that one too. He’s got a good eye.
Have a great week.
Affectionately,
Cassandra
He does, Cassandra. Have a wonderful week yourself!
Love that photo of you and Scout! It is always so good to get back home. Flowers are gorgeous and you will get those weeds. Enjoy the day with Don and a busy week ahead!
hugs,
Linda
I just came in from nabbing a whole bunch of weeds. I’ll be sore tomorrow, but I had to do it before it got too hot and humid!
Agree with Laura C, Claudia. That photo of your porch and glider is gorgeous. The colors! We had a glider when I was a kid and I had many a comfortable nap there. PS – maybe you already know this but… you might try citrus peels and homemade citrus spray [just essential orange oil and water] for your plants. Apparently most insects LOATHE citrus. I’ve had excellent results with it in my apartment [which has a chronic spider problem]. I know there are a lot of natural repellents for other critters too.
I’ve taken naps on this glider myself, Janet. I’ll look into something natural to spray on the plants, Janet – thanks!
You look so content in that pic of you and Scout! You are home! Flowers do look great, and porch looks welcoming…afternoon nap? Enjoy! ;)
I just may have to take a little snooze, Donna.
So glad you made it home safely. Your garden is beautiful and I didn’t notice a weed :)
Thanks, Dawn!
It is good to see you and Scout so happy together again..yes..now that song is playing in my head lol..Did you notice the Daddy Long Legs spider on the pink flower?? Welcome Home!!
Oh yes, that’s why I took it!
I bet they were both doing a happy dance when you finally got home!! It is called “Home Sweet Home” for a reason! Your plants look like they did well, which means, of course, that so did the weeds. We don’t use pesticides either, but I have found using 1/4 cup of Dawn to 3/4 cup of water and spraying it on the leaves and flowers works well and doesn’t harm the dogs or anything else, really. I think the solution is too much for them and they can’t move around so easily. We use it on our veg plants, too.
Weeding and a nap, along w/ the birthday celebration sounds like a pretty happy-filled day for all! Enjoy !!
I’ll try that, Chris. I have Dawn right here in the kitchen.
there’s no place like home!!! welcome back
Thank you, Nancy!
Welcome Home!!
Thanks, Marsha!
What a beautiful cottage garden! It is so welcoming and peaceful~
Thank you, Susan!
Hurrah you’re home….know that feeling. I think some four-legged buddy is so glad you’re back too!
Your porch is just the way I like my porch pretty, comfy, cozy and surrounded by things I love!
ps. love your glasses, are they readers or real?
Welcome home! One reason I am hesitant to travel is leaving behind our furbabies. Always so good to return to them. Love your porch. Everything looks gorgeous to me. Those weeds! If only my plants grew like they do.
I bet you are not celebrating the blessings of family after the day we have had.
XO,
Mere
Uh oh on Meredith’s comment above ^, lol! I won’t even ask. ;-) Anyway, I know what you mean about weeds and flowers and plants with holes in them…we don’t use any pesticides on our property either. Our yard is basically a small sea of green weeds…but like you say, it is what it is. I’d rather have weeds in my flower beds and grass that have a perfectly manicured, green lawn because of the use of chemicals that cause so much damage to our health and environment. Too funny about the person passing gas in that little plane…well, funny reading it. Definitely not experiencing it!
I love your glasses! And after a hectic week with company and the College World Series I realized your spouse and I share the same birthday. Relax and enjoy your garden.
So glad you are back home with your sweet girl and wonderful husband. If I were you, I’d just sit cuddled up with them and ignore the weeds!
You turn your back for one minute, and the weeds creep in.
Love the red specs.
So happy your home and travel wasn’t too bad… (smells and all) Your frankness..made me laugh!
Good job to Don for doing all the watering. Your porch looks ready and waiting for you …almost like it is calling your name to come sit a while.
Have a wonderful week Claudia…glad your home!
