The big news: Someone got a haircut.
He looks gorgeous. I’m biased, of course, but I’m so happy he did it. He’s been hanging on to the long-haired look for a while, for a variety of reasons. I finally persuaded him to have it trimmed about a month ago and it looked a lot better but it was still long. Last week, I was gently urging him to get his goatee trimmed. But he was still holding out.
I knew that it had to happen when he was ready for it, not before.
Then he saw a photo from a few years back and liked the way he looked and the next thing I knew, he was making an appointment (same day) and ta dah! SO much better! As I had predicted to him, he looks younger. The guy has really great hair that I will admit I’m jealous of, so why not show it off?
He really likes it. Says he feels “lighter.”
Yay!
I played around with the modern dollhouse yesterday. I made a copy of two photographs from the NYTimes that I loved. Resized them, printed them out, and hung them on the wall in the living room. I framed the back so they are 3 dimensional, like a canvas.
I’m not entirely happy with them and may reprint them and back them with foam board. I also think I can get away with something larger in this open space.
I printed them out on the back of photo paper, which gave me a nice thick print, but no glossy surface.
I’ll update you when I have time to print them out in a larger size. The print itself is a keeper. It works well in the room. It just needs to be larger.
I have some errands to run today, despite a lack of sleep. I’m not sure what day I’ll be called into rehearsal this week and I still have stuff to buy. And bake – but that will be on the weekend.
Happy Tuesday.

I must admit I do love how Don looks with a haircut and beard trim! He is so handsome and he does look younger! If only a haircut would do that for me. I’ve had a good rest day so today is full of errands and shopping. I started the latest Jack Reacher novel and I can’t stop reading! Love that character so much. I’m sure I’ll finish it tonight. Take care and have a good day.
Claudia says
I haven’t read that one yet, Linda. But I sure love that series!
Mary Bond says
Your husband looks fine!
The doll house is amazing.
May you keep your energy and drive to continue to add beauty to the world.
Claudia says
Oh, such kind words, Mary. Thank you!
Shanna says
I love those lamb and wildflower shots so much. I still have one of them as my screen saver and have yet to tire of it. I could imagine them as a wall mural size in a real room!
Don’s haircut is a fresh new look for him! Bet he feels like a new man!
Claudia says
I have one as my screen saver, too! I love it.
Susan says
The haircut, and beard trim, look wonderful! Why hide all of that handsomeness?
Oh, and I love the pictures, Claudia. They are a good fit for that room.
Claudia says
Exactly! Such handsomeness!
jeanie says
I think the prints in the dollhouse look fabulous! And so does Don! (And you’re right — in their time frame, not ours! Good on you for getting that!)
The house is great~! I love each and every detail!
Claudia says
I was quite surprised when he made the decision, but secretly very pleased1
Thank you, Jeanie.
Janet in Rochester says
Wow! No kidding but Don looks AT LEAST 15 years younger! And terrific too! All rested & refreshed. Llike he just got back from a nice long holiday in the tropics where he did nothing but loll on the beach listening to waves & breezes. Gee, I never would have thought a haircut could make so much difference. Maybe Coco Chanel was right. She said there comes a time in everyone’s life when he or she really can’t wear long hair anymore & have it be their best look. That “mature” people always look better with shorter hair [not necessarily short hair, just shorter]. When I see transformations like Don’s, I tend to credit her with a win on that point. Anyway he looks really great. I bet it feels good to him too. A lot less work all the way around. Good move! PS – I just love that red table in the modern dollhouse. Peace.โญ๏ธ

Well, I am the exception to that rule. My face is wide and round and I look dreadful with short hair. It will always be long, but it won’t be too long. Yes, he does look great! He’s really happy with the new look.
Lea says
Don looks fantastic. I agree that shorter hair and beard definitely makes him look
younger. Other men would trade their hair for his.
I can feel the love you have for your beautiful dollhouses and also appreciate the labour and thought you put into every room.
Claudia says
Thank you, Lea!
tammy j says
HOLYMOLY!!! YES!
younger. and neater. and like a new man. well done Don!
and the beard… I love a beard that is neat and trim. that looks well kept and clean.
it’s just such a great look! very English and nautical. and you’re right. he does have a beautiful head of hair! bring on the elbow patches and good books and a snifter of brandy! LOL!
and I’m in LOVE with your doll houses! especially this one! although I love the little cottage style too!
p.s. you’re a wise and wonderful wife. one never nags. she realizes it gets her no where. LOL.
Claudia says
His goatee was getting scraggly. Much better this way!
Well, I do nag about chores, etc, because if I don’t they’ll never get done, but about life decisions? I step back and wait for him to find his way. He does the same thing with me. We’ve gained some wisdom in our old age!
tammy j says
regarding chores . . . kind of like raising a teen aged boy!
and as to the nagging being ineffective… if you remember my beloved Bob smoked.
a lot. once he quit for almost a year. then one day he just started again. I was heart broken.
everything I’d read said nagging doesn’t help. and other than the smoking he was so perfect to me! and I loved him so. but I never ‘nagged.’ (what a strange word!)
then when he got cancer I felt guilty just BECAUSE I never nagged him about it!
it’s a lose/ lose proposition! then your mind tells you “should I have nagged him more to QUIT!?”
finally I now realize every person is responsible for their own choices on this earth!
and so I just cherish the time we had together. it was fun. and it was beautiful and wonderful. and why tarnish those happy memories with senseless regret?
didn’t mean to be draggy here! it’s the season for joy!
sending you both loving wishes!!! xo HAPPY EGG AND NOG dearest bean! LOL!
Claudia says
You are not to feel guilty. He made his choice. We all do. Much love to you.
Wendy T says
Don’s hair looks very modern. He’s looking dapper, Claudia.
Love the prints in your modern dollhouse. I love lambs and sheep, almost as much as I love goats and kids. My daughters were volunteer goat rangers at the zoo and spent lots of time taking care of them under the keeper’s supervision, as well as teaching children how to be kind to animals.
Claudia says
I love them all. I’d love to find some little goats, Wendy!
Janice says
Yup, he does look much younger. Iโm getting my hair cut Thursday. I wonder if it will work with me, too ???
Claudia says
Fingers crossed! Actually, I always feel like a good trim makes a big difference!
Marilyn says
i can not stop looking at that gorgeous dollhouse. Don looks much younger with his hair cut.
Marilyn
Claudia says
He does, that scoundrel!
Lily says
Donโs hair looks great! I like it both long or short. He has such a great head of hair, thick with a lot of body.
My husband still wears his hair long with a short beard. I like it, but urge him to trim often and he does. My hair is so similar to yours, Claudia, even the color. I donโt look good with short hair either, and will always keep it at least past my shoulders a little in length.
Also, wanted to say Iโve much enjoyed your trip photos, Christmas decor, and the dollhouse tour yesterday.
Merry Christmas to you and Don!
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Lily.
Yes, I tried shorter hair about 20 years ago and it doesn’t look good!
monica says
Don looks fantastic! He looks happier:)
Thank you so much for sharing these pics of your modern house.
You truly have a gift for detail.
Peace~
Monica
Claudia says
You’re very welcome, Monica!

Mr. Sparks is looking down-right spiffy. And….so much younger! ;)
Claudia says
I agree!

I really enjoy your dollhouses. You are very creative and I am looking forward to that see what you do next. Your little house needs a garden. I love your summer posts about flowers and birds. Don looks much younger and very dapper with his new trim and cut. I have always had very long hair and it took me some time to acknowledge that it was finally time for a good cut. My hairdresser cut it three times in an hour. We finally stopped at eight inches lopped off. I wasnโt sure what everyoneโs reaction would be. But I do look much younger. My husband thinks that I look very chic! Wow, this from a man who rarely says much. I hope that you both have a peaceful and beautiful Christmas.
Claudia says
It has a garden. It’s on the roof of the house. I just didn’t share any photos of it this time around.
How nice to have your husband compliment you on your new hairdo! Thanks, Nancy.
Beverley says
A big thumbs up to Don’s new look! I also really love the modern dollshouse interior….when I first scanned down I thought it was a real-sized room. You’ve done a really good job and I’m looking forward to seeing how the house progresses. You’ve also inspired me to get out the containers of dollshouse furniture I have stored away, plus the basic shop front, and get on with it! Like others, I lack the confidence to ake a start.
Beverley
Claudia says
Oh good! I’ll cheer you on, Beverley! As I said to Debbie, “Just go for it!”
Kay says
Don’s new look stopped me mid-scroll in IG. What a difference! My husband has always had a trimmed beard – originally grew it to look older in his early twenties – so I have a built-in fondness for facial hair because of him. When I retired I decided to grow out the blunt cut, jaw-length hairdo I’ve had for decades, at least to my shoulders. You have such beautiful longer hair. It suits you. So, you’re inspiring me to “go for it.” As I’m sure Don is finding out, it’s just good to change it up once in a while.
Claudia says
I like facial hair, too. My dad once grew a mustache and all of the kids loved it. When he finally shaved it, we were devastated!
Beverley says
I think our generation, my hubby and I are a similar age to Don and you, like facial hair. Lots of men over here (and just about everywhere else) had long hair and beards in the 60’s and 70’s. Husband has a trimmed beard in our wedding photos of 1973 (and still has a moustache which I have to keep reminding him to trim!) and our son wears the current fashion of a beard and hair shaved at sides and longer on top.
Beverley
Claudia says
Don definitely prefers facial hair, Beverley!
nancybluemoon says
Don looks really nice!…Baking this weekend here too…

He’s a handsome guy!
