Saturday Morning

July 5, 2025 at 8:29 am by Claudia

Sorry for not posting on Friday. The events in the House on Thursday and the blatant cruelty on full display were tremendously  upsetting. I woke up at 3 am on Friday morning and never got back to sleep. I couldn’t stop my thoughts, my worry, my outrage. So I only had a few hours of sleep. I realized it was the Fourth of July and a holiday, so I figured you’d understand.

It was also the 31st anniversary of the day that Don and I met. And really, even though it was our first meeting, tentative, with some flirting and shyness, neither of us had any interest in anyone else from that moment on. We knew. We just had to work it all out.

So yay for us! 31 years together.

I can’t bring myself to write about the atrocity of a bill that was approved on Thursday. You all know how I feel about it. And I desperately need to lose myself in some work outside today and to observe birds and bees and butterflies and our groundhog. On Thursday, late in the day, we saw three young bucks walk through our property. Their antlers were beginning to bud, but they were young. And so beautiful! I briefly wondered if they were the culprits eating my plants. Very likely. We’ve never seen three bucks together and it was magical.

Anyway, Don has a gig this morning. I’m going to trim a lot of weeds and mow some grass. I finished the Jane Casey mystery this morning and when Don is back home after his gig, I’m grabbing the car to return a book to the library and pick up two books that I have on reserve.

I needed some comfort yesterday. Olivia is definitely one of my comfort dolls, so she and I hung out together.

She is so darned cute!

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

I know neither of us got much sleep last night. My heart’s still heavy too. Just wanted to say-you’re not alone in it. I know you don’t want to get into the weeds of politics but your blog just as it is already carries so much meaning. The way you write about beauty and decency is quietly radical . If you ever feel moved to reflect on what this moment means to you, even gently, I think a lot of people would find solace and maybe courage in your words. Remind people what is at stake.

I wrote so much about the Felon during his first term and during the campaign. I write a lot about him elsewhere online and that is where I speak my mind. But since I’ve had so much trouble in the past with his supporters, as well as trolls, I tend to keep this space relatively free of his stench.
You can follow my IG account to see those posts – usually in Stories.

      Thanks, Maria.

This bill that was signed was so disappointing and disgusting on multiple levels. Yesterday I was watching TV and all of a sudden a Special Report came on. It was about trump getting ready to sign the bill, but he just kept talking about other things, alluding in a negative way to Biden, etc.. It didn’t show anything vital, which is the point of breaking into a show. None of the other major channels had a special report. So I called the network and complained as well as making a complaint online. Trump was grandstanding and it appeared that particular network was just trying to curry favor, or something. It was frustrating to hear trump go on and on. Anyway, I felt better that I made a complaint… Happy anniversary to you and Don!

We can no longer trust the media, especially corporate media. Good for you for complaining, Barrie! More of us need to do that.

      Stay safe.

you-know-who was in town thursday night, (was his usual self) and his visit was all over the extended news. as was the fact of our senators having voted for that big ugly bill. lots more i could say, but will leave it at this: i think we need a new president and new senators, people who won’t just follow party lines or think about how they can get even wealthier or maintain their job/power, but who are true leaders focused on the common good. and we need truly journalistic media, not people who repeat over and over their corporate owners’ favorite buzzwords and agendas. ugh.

thanks for letting me vent a little.

    …

glad you saw the deer. even if they are eating your flowers, they are so sweet, and the sight of beautiful wildlife is good for us (i know you know that already). for a few minutes last night we had a rabbit stretched out on his belly on the lawn out front, in the grass right by the sidewalk, about ten feet from our door. glad he felt safe enough to do that. :)

happy belated 31st “day we met” anniversary to you and don! love the “we knew” and am so happy for you both.

heard a few fireworks the past couple nights, but they sounded farther away. looks like it could rain any minute now … good timing, will be appreciated.

need to get going on my to-do list.

hope you all have something fun to do, stay cool and safe and well.

Unfortunately, the adultish kids across the street were setting off firecrackers for a long period of time. I was irritated, but was grateful Scout wasn’t here suffering through it. Fireworks drove her insane.

      Stay safe, Kathy.

all too bad. sorry you and don had to deal with that noise, and have to miss your sweet scout and your other sweet pups, too. xo.

would probably be considered a safety hazard or maybe just a drag to some people, but wouldn’t it be nice if fireworks could be made to be silent? colorful and silent, no booms, bangs or whiny, whizzing noises. better for lots of people and all animals!

hope you have a nice night.

We watched the Capital 4th celebrations from Washington last night but somehow it all seemed so futile. I know a lot of Americans do not support Trump and that is encouraging. Congratulations to you and Don for 31 years together. Don’t overdo the yard work. Hugs, Elaine

I overdid the yard work, of course.

Glad you found solace with Olivia; her face oozes empathy and caring. Hang in there. There are a lot of people doing good works but don’t get the media coverage.

BTW, my cat responded well to the antibiotics and he’s off the pain meds. For the first time in ages, he even slept snuggled against me instead of his preferred space under my bed.

We didn’t celebrate yesterday….we gathered our family for good conversation…and good eats. We have to celebrate family moments while we can.

I did some outdoor chores this morning…more like puttering. Next week it’s supposed to be cooler, so I can do more serious gardening…like pruning plants.

Hope you get to relax this weekend. Enjoy your day! ;)

I have no words except shameful. I don’t think for a minute that having this happen on 7-4 wasn’t planned.

I know what you mean about the BBB. I hate it too. I was thinking the other day that Lizzie has it good — she is oblivious to anything happening in the world. We could have the best news in the world or the worst, it would make no difference to her mood or sense of well being. Lucky Lizzie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
