Boy, I felt crappy yesterday! A combination of sinus and a real lack of sleep. I took two naps in the afternoon, which helped a bit. But the best thing was a really good night’s sleep. I slept in until 7 am, which is about two and a half hours later than yesterday and the day before and the day before that.
I’m waking up rather slowly today, but I had a good session with my current book and now I’m on my second cup of coffee.
It’s supposed to reach 75 degrees today, which is very unseasonable. I won’t complain, however, because colder temps are just around the corner. On Tuesday, election day, the high will only reach 57 and then I think we’ll be back to normal for this time of year.
I realized the other day that Stella needed a long overdue exterior cleaning. I apologized to her, got to work, and now she’s beautiful again.
Just like a new car, you vow to keep it looking brand spanking new, and then time passes, and you (meaning me) never get it washed. Your husband has to do it. But in this case, I did it. You look lovely, Stella.
Mei is modeling a new pair of boots which arrived yesterday all the way from England. They’re slouchy and weathered and I love them. They are made by Etsy seller Piccolabammbola, aka Karen. When I have some more spare change, I’m going to buy another pair as they come in all sorts of colors. They’re easy to put on – no fiddly little laces – so that makes them a winner. I have one more dress coming via the mail and that’s it for a while. I’m on a Blythe accessories diet.
I will crochet another beret, but I already have that yarn on hand.
I’m very close to finishing The Furies by John Connolly. He’s such a wonderful writer and I think I’ve read all of his books but one and I have that one upstairs on the TBR pile. His detective novels are infused with the supernatural and I don’t read supernatural books as a rule. But I quite love the way he uses it in his stories.
Still feeling under the weather, so I’ll take it easy today. Meredith is feeling much better, by the way.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

It is good news about your sister.
Her trials right now are mighty, but she has hers sons and friends for support.
I always thought it was ridiculous when people would say they have so many Facebook band instagram friends. Are these the same people that would be there when you really needed help?
I don’t think so.
Claudia says
I have to disagree. Many of my online friends would be there to help and have been.
Stay safe.

glad you took naps yesterday and slept better last night. sleep is so important to good health and happiness.
glad that your sister is on the mend. hope and praying you all feel 100% better soon!
stella is beautiful. the photo reminds me of her story of being found on a trip and coming home to you and don … :)
i like mei’s boots and style.
glad you have some books to enjoy. i haven’t focused enough on reading for a long time and tend to read non-fiction more than fiction when i do read so haven’t had the experience of anticipating and reading multiple books by a favorite author … but am thinking agatha christie’s writing will change that for me. :)
yesterday it rained here for more than ten hours. not a storm, but thankfully more than sporadic sprinkles. we received over an inch and a half of much needed rain and i loved every drop.
had a productive day yesterday. no single big project completed and no final edit on my children’s books done … just a bunch of naggy little projects and errands now off my list. felt good.
one of those errands was to drop off clothes and shoes at a secure public bin for recycling things that are stained or too worn to wear or donate for other people’s use. several of these bins have recently been placed outside some schools and a mall and i like that very much. does anyone else here have bins like that where you live?
set my indoor clocks back an hour this morning and will get to my car clock soon … only because someone reminded me today’s the day. :) good to change batteries in smoke detectors, too. stay on time and safe, everyone!
i agree with your reply to a comment above about online friends. there’s more than one way to be there for someone. you all have helped me in so many ways (thank you)! love you all.
happy saturday.
kathy

You must have been in heaven during that long rainfall, Kathy!
I never get around to my car clock – sometimes it takes months!
Stay safe, Kathy.

Morning…Glad your sister is better, and glad you are feeling better, too… amazing how a good night’s sleep can help so much!
I love your stove! And also that you have a name for her!
Online friends are a great support…they just aren’t all able to give actual hugs or containers of chicken soup or shop for us. Both are nice!
We had rain early this morning… another gray day for blankets and books!
Happy Saturday!
Claudia says
Exactly. My online friends – including this blog’s readers – are treasures.
Stay safe, Barrie. We’re getting rain tomorrow.

I don’t know why it feels so darned good to get the stove cleaned, but it does. I have to do mine (at least in part) a lot more since I got gas and everything falls down the grates! (The time the madeleine batter overturned in the oven — when it was still batter — didn’t help either!) But when it’s done, what a feeling!
I got a lot done outside yesterday and if the rain eases should be able to finish — just cutting back the peonies and Annabelle. Then it’s just a little putting away of pots and stuff and doing a bit of a job on the garage before it gets too cold to do it! It’s always something.
I hope YOU are feeling much better today and can continue to lay a bit low over the weekend. It’s warm here too (and uber-windy!). We’ll cool off for a couple of days, then back in the 60s midweek. I’ll take as much as I can get of it — we know what’s coming.
Claudia says
I have to clean the inside of the stove yet, but it won’t take long. I use baking soda for this vintage stove because it has text giving cooking times on the inside of the oven door.
I’m taking it easy today. I feel a bit better, but boy, my sinuses are really a pain in the tush!
Stay safe, Jeanie.

Did you read the article on Lee Child? He’s 68 and going to retire. His brother Andrew is going to continue with the Jack Reacher series. More surprising to me is that he smokes two packs of Camels and a day and moved from Wyoming to Colorado so he can smoke weed legally. I’m not judging, just repeating what he said in the interview.
Claudia says
No, but I’ve seen he has a co-writer. When book series suddenly get two writers, I usually bow out. I hope he’s well and the marijuana isn’t for managing pain. I can’t blame him for retiring. He’s been pretty prolific – a new book every year and he has also edited a few complation books as well.
Stay safe, Olivia!

Glad to hear Meredith is feeling so much better. Hope you’re on the mend, too, Claudia. Feel better soon.
I love your stove. Stella looks wonderful in all her retro glory. After I’ve cleaned my oven I keep opening the oven door and looking at it every time I walk into the kitchen., it looks so nice. Crazy, eh?
What a cute little outfit Mei is sporting. She is looking very nonchalent with her hands in her pockets. You should sell your pretty crocheted hats on Etsy. I’m sure you would be successful. They wouldn’t be too difficult to mail, either.
I went to my first Christmas bazaar this morning with two friends. It was the first since Covid. Loved the small town retro feel of it. Everyone was so friendly. It put you in a Christmasy mood. And the cookies – $6.00 a doz and the fudge. Oh, my!
Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
I hesitate to do that as there are SO MANY people out there crocheting and knitting hats.
A Christmas bazaar sound lovely!
Stay safe, Elaine.

So glad your sister is feeling better, phew! And your sinuses as well :)
Stella looks gorgeous! I am fortunate to have a distant cousin of Stella’s and I am wondering if you also used baking soda on the outside for the white enamel? Would love some advice as I am always worried about how to clean it well without scratching it up .
I know what you mean about these 70° temps but they are also really giving me the creeps. And I am convinced (yet admitting to not being a scientist at all) that the allergy symptoms my other half is experiencing wouldn’t be happening if the weather was more November-like. Eeek.
Love those teeny little boots!
Claudia says
I do use baking soda at times, as well as a spray cleaner from Method, which is very gentle. I definitely use baking soda on the inside of the oven.
I feel the same way. I feel so miserable right now and I think this warm spell is the reason for it. It’s too crazy! Yesterday, it reached 76 degrees!
Stay safe, Naomi.
