Scenes from the Birthday

November 23, 2011 at 10:17 am by Claudia

Thank you for all the sweet birthday wishes. I read each and every one. The day was low-key and lovely. Despite the gray day predicted, much to my delight, the sun came out. Don took me to lunch at a vegetarian restaurant in a neighboring town. I’d always wanted to go there.

The town is charming with lots of wonderful old buildings on the main street.

This is the entrance to the restaurant.

I fell in love with this mobile. Since the sun was pouring in the windows, I couldn’t really see it as I shot this photo. But I think you get the idea. The paper is folded origami-style. Each piece has several contrasting patterns which form something very like a quilt block. I want to make one!

The restaurant interior was shadowy and wonderful. The food was delicious and here you see my birthday pie and candle. (I’m wearing my Charlie the Tuna watch.)

Unbelievably delicious coconut cream pie. With home-made whipped cream.

Oh my lord.

I got presents from the dogs and Don. One of my presents hasn’t arrived yet. It’s for the dollhouse. When it arrives, I’ll be sure to show you.

Don got the waitress to take this shot. We had the restaurant to ourselves. I love the shadows and sunlight. There’s the mobile on the right.

We had a perfectly wonderful afternoon before Don had to leave for work. Then I entertained myself by reading all my Facebook Birthday greetings. Facebook can be annoying, but it sure is nice on your birthday!

What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Ours will be just the two of us. I’m not even sure what I’m making…no turkey for me, of course, although Don may have some. Side dishes: mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce,  my biscuits, vegetables, maybe pumpkin pie (we still have leftover coconut cream pie in the refrigerator.)

Quite frankly, I could eat mashed potatoes and biscuits and I’d be happy.

Claudia, I am glad you had such a great meal at that charming eatery. I have been baking badly and cooking a wild rice casserole and homemade whole berry cranberry sauce. I do not like canned cranberry sauce at all. Tomorrow we travel about ninety miles and eat at Joe’s house. Enjoy the biscuits and potatoes. olive

What a wonderful birthday, Claudia. So quiet and serene. We will have a group here tomorrow and it will be hectic, but it will be fun. Hope your Thanksgiving is a nice one. Ann

What a neat picture of you two–sounds like lovely day. I’m with you–mashed potatoes and rolls would suit me just fine too. I have something for your dollhouse that will be along–hope it is not too large. I can’t tell from the pictures, but I am a little afraid that it might be too large, but we shall see.

What a peaceful and serene photo of the two of you! I hate crowds, especially in restaurants. I also love coconut cream pie! One of my favorites! I can’t wait to see what you are getting for your dollhouse! I went to Hobby Lobby today and picked up some new fancy doorknobs and a pretty door knocker for mine today. My granddaughter’s other grandparents got her a dollhouse kit that they are putting together for her. I have a new buddy in my dollhouse addiction..lol. Enjoy your Thanksgiving tomorrow…to tell you the truth, I could be very happy with just mashed potatoes myself…maybe a little stuffing too!~Hugs, Patti

I’m so happy you had a lovely meal with your wonderful husband, Claudia. You look so sweet on that photo! I love your blouse! Such pretty colours! That pie sure looks delicious and especially with the home made whip cream. Yum, yum, yum!! I would love a piece but I could never eat that. I am intolerant not to lactose, but to the protein in dairy products. There are times when I cheat, but I always pay the price. Here’s to wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving day tomorrow. Can you put gravy on your potatoes? Hope so. Still, mashed potatoes with a giant salad filled with all sorts of crudites and a fantastic dressing and a helping of cranberry sauce would be nice. LOL! I’m making myself hungry now!

Looks like you really enjoyed your lunch and that pie…oh mercy! Delightful birthday.
I think you and I think alike when it comes to food. I could make a meal out of potatoes and a good piece of french bread.

I have to say most Swiss people don’t know how to set up and furnish a restaurant. Most places here are new and stylish.
    This place looks wonderful!

    Claudia,

Happy belated birthday! I love the feeling of the restaurant. I love that mobile too! The first thing I thought of was how we used to save and fold our chewing gum wrappers and make chains.

    Hugs,

OMGosh! I cannot believe how much this restaurant looks like my fave place where I used to live! My friend and I went there every Sat morning for breakfast (and often had it to ourselves). And that pie!! I’m not eating sugar now, but I would certainly make an exception to that pie; it looks incredible. I’m so glad you had such a wonderful birthday Claudia. ♥

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
