Scout Barking at Thunder

August 10, 2012 at 7:29 am by Claudia

Lots of foot stomping.
Lots of quick head turns.
Lots and lots of barking.

Scout doesn’t like thunder. And we had lots of it yesterday. More expected today.

Poor little Scout.

Happy Friday.

P.S. My post on Collecting McCoy Pottery is featured this week in the DIY section of BlogHer.

P.P.S. All day long yesterday I thought it was Friday. So I’m naming today: Friday2.

Our Yorkie gets up and goes over to our Springer and tries to bite his years and growls when there is thunder. Our poor Springer just looks at her like she is a crazy woman.

Why do dogs get so upset, and there is the cat, just sleeping through it. Our fraidy cat isn’t concerned by thunder or lightning, but drop something upstairs and he is terrified.

Congrats on getting in the DIY section.

Isn’t that weird when we think we are a day ahead or behind??? It’s usually due to a holiday…with me anyway. My 2 chihuahuas were a little upset with the intense thunder and lightning yesterday afternoon. There were a couple of close hits! They go and hide underneath the bed in the spare room. Dogs can be very sensitive to mother nature!~Hugs, Patti

It seemed like Friday, to me, yesterday too!
One of my dogs hates thunder, too, and hides in a narrow hall whenever it rains. Fortunately, for her, it doesn’t rain here very often. Not so fortunate for us though.

I hope you had rain with your thunder? Our Sheltie is terrified of thunder, hides in any little dark corner she can find.

The one photo of Scout barking looks very ghostly.

Poor Scout! Have you ever tried Dr Bach’s Rescue Remedy for pets? I know vets who swear by it, although it doesn’t seem to calm Bentley down too much before a grooming session. It may work for Scout though. I hope that thunder ends soon!

    Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

My youngest cat hides at the first hint of thunder. Since she can hear it long before I can, the missing cat is my storm warning. Very handy! Congrats on the feature! ~ Maureen

Toni, the dog I grew up, used to just run and hide wherever she could to get away the booms and flashes of thunder and lightning. I’m always confused on the days of the week especially since the weekend here is Friday and Saturday (it used to be Thursday and Friday so I’ve always been confused ever since the day I arrived 17-1/2 year ago. ha!) :)

I’ve heard that ‘Thunder Shirts’ work wonders for dogs who are afraid of thunder. It makes them feel secure, evidently. Poor Scout. I’m not sure how one gets a Thunder Shirt on a dog, but it must not be too difficult because they seem to be doing a booming business (no pun intended).

I don’t blame Scout a bit. The thunder around here has been so loud lately I’ve felt like barking at it too, or hiding under the bed. Congrats on your article.

Poor Scout…Mollie ends up in the closet or the basement when fireworks or thunder are around..Even if I turn the TV on sometimes..she disappears..she’s very sensitive to some noises..

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
