Search Day

March 14, 2018 at 9:17 am by Claudia

The bus trip to Manhattan was on time and smooth as silk, even with snow blowing everywhere. By the time I started the schlep to the apartment, snow and sleet were coming at me horizontally. A very strange weather day, which, as we left for dinner, ended up looking like this:

Go figure.

We spent the afternoon together and then had a bite to eat with Rick. Then it was off to the theater for Don and back to the apartment for me.

I did not have a good night’s sleep, however. The people upstairs seem to walk endlessly in the apartment and I can hear every heavy clomp of their feet. Even with our white noise machine on. And then, this morning, a truck on the street below started unloading at 6 am. I’m not a happy camper. While I love NYC, having someone above us and noise on the street below is hard to adjust to and I’m never here long enough to get used to it.

But I’m here with my dearest and we’re drinking coffee and all is well. Soon, I’ll get ready for the ‘search.’ I’ll be headed to Macy’s because it’s huge and they have everything there. I’d like to be efficient about the whole thing.

Because shopping is not my favorite thing to do.

Don has two shows today, so it’s a perfect day for me to go off and find something to wear.

Bravo to the students who are walking out of school today for 17 minutes – one for each student killed with an assault weapon.

Bravo to Conor Lamb who won the election in PA last night.

And RIP to Stephen Hawking. Such brilliance is fittingly home again among the stars.

Happy Wednesday.

i’d like to meet jimmy, too – to tell him thanks for all the great lyrics and happy music and for playing in des moines at least a couple times (though i’ve seen him in many, many states and driven as far as to new orleans to hear him … worth it)!

glad you found such a pretty dress and the other things. have a great time!!!

Love the photo of your feet, just says it all. Good luck today, you can do it and Macy’s is a good choice. When I was looking for a Mother of the Bride dress it was Macy’s that came to my rescue. The weather has been crazy everywhere but today we have sunshine so I’m not going to complain. Hugs!

Good luck with the search, Claudia! I detest shopping for outfits for “occasions” too. Usually it’s for what I call “wife of events” – my husband was the one invited because of who he is. Still, you have an entire day in NYC to do what you want. Hope you find something you like quickly and have plenty of time for some fun stuff.

Lovely tribute to Stephen Hawking: I was an undergraduate in Cambridge and he was a very familiar site in college.
Bravo to the students- what a fitting and moving tribute

I have had shopping success at the small Century 21 near the Lincoln Centre- worth trying if Macy’s draws a blank but frankly you will be so proud and happy for Don you would look amazing if you turned up in your bathrobe

    Have a fab day

My daughter sent me similar pics yesterday from NYC. A pretty awful morning, but a lovely end to the day. Sounds like Boston took a lot of the brunt of this one.

I hope you had good luck and that it happened EARLY in your quest so it was finished up and you could enjoy the rest of your Wednesday! Sleep well tonight.

Good luck with the dress shopping. Yesterday did turn out with blue skies. It seems the sun does not stay out for long. Every afternoon it gets cloudy and the sun disappears.

Just got back from some appts in NYC today and while we were on the train back to Poughkeepsie, I reminded Mike that tomorrow is opening night for Don. It will truly be an exciting evening for you both! As a parrot head for many years, attending so many JB concerts,
I’m excited just knowing you’ll all be celebrating together!

I’m having trouble getting past the news story of the family who were forced to put their pug puppy into an overhead bin on a 3-hour flight. And the puppy died. Flight attendant now saying she didn’t know there was a dog inside the TSA-approved carrier. CBS interviewed a retired airline captain who said overhead bins in passenger cabins have no ventilation, they’re pitch-black dark. Other passengers could hear the dog barking and the family said it whimpered for two hours and was then silent. They wanted to check on him but passengers were confined to seats due to turbulence. Apparently pugs have difficulty breathing anyway due to short, squashed face/nose and they stress easily which then makes them breathe even harder. The more I read about this incident, the more infuriated I feel. I’ve had asthma all my life and I know how much, even on a regular basis, not getting enough air into me causes my body and mind to stress, so one plays on the other. I know of more than one person who’s had respiratory issues, went into a breathing episode, couldn’t get help in time and the heart gave out. Terrible way to die.

It is terrible but I have to protect myself from this story right now. I can’t let it overwhelm me when we are about to celebrate Don’s Opening Night. Too much heartbreak in the world. I need a little joy.

Claudia, I’m sorry. It was insensitive of me to say anything to spoil happy hours ahead for you with Don’s Opening Night. If I was overwhelmed with sadness, I needed to take a minute and spill it somewhere else, like maybe journal it for myself (privately) instead of to the ‘world’. Here you are trying to self-protect and then I didn’t even keep on topic with the post. Again, I’m sorry; I don’t want to be the person who does that or acts like that; sigh. I hope you ‘know me’ better by now that my intent would never be to hurt anyone.

You are spoiled by going to your country home and enjoying the quiet…. Think of all the different noises you hear in NY as a symphony of music. Enjoy the clash of the letting down of the lift of the delivery truck as building up of an important part of the music. Don’t get annoyed just enjoy your own private symphony made just for you. Once upon a time, the music played so steadily, I lived one mile from Kennedy Airport, on the stats it was runway 31. We would have planes every two minutes to give us a light show in the bedroom on the second floor of our house. Not to mention the noise. It’s just noise. Flip the switch on your mind… It will help I guarantee it. I now live out in the country in the south and I just hear a dog or coyote bark or get snorted at by a deer if I stay outside at night. I enjoy reading your blog. Thank you for sharing.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
