Phlox in the garden.
I didn’t manage to get everything done that I wanted to yesterday, but that’s because we finished the deductions! Then I had to make copies, turn our documents into pdf form and then send them on to our accountant. My goal was to get it all in by the end of the month – actually, even earlier, but work got in the way. Anyway, goal met. Big check mark.
That kind of thing, since I have no affinity for figures and math, leaves me feeling tired.
But today I will get out there and mow the back forty, wash our sheets, and clean a bit.
Don is working the Farmers Market today. He just left. He loves chatting with everyone he meets, telling them about the vintage camera, and taking portraits. He’s a gregarious guy and people are just drawn to him, camera or no. I’ve seen it over and over again for the past 25 years. He’ll have lots of stories to share at the end of the day.
I hope you’re taking it easy, relaxing, and enjoying this first day of September.
Happy Sunday.

What a beautiful day outdoors – nice breeze – while visiting Providence for a couple of days. Enjoying small side trips while visiting daughter in CT.
Happy mowing & big congratulations on the send-off to CPA. Ours awaits return to SF – Argh!

You have my sympathy, Martha! Enjoy your time in Connecticut!

i say the same about myself (as having no affinity for numbers, math formulas, etc.) so can imagine the relief you feel for finishing the tax work and getting it sent off. hope you can now spend time relaxing and doing something you love. i know you don’t mind mowing, but i mean something that isn’t just a task you don’t mind. :) reading that new louise penny book, perhaps? hope you have a good day however you spend it!
same for don taking photos.

Oh, I read all the time! I always have something going. Thanks, Kathy!
kathy in iowa says
just thought that new louise penny book would be a suitable reward for all that dreadful tax work!

It would be, but I always hold off on reading her newest. Delayed pleasure.
I’m reading The Girl Who Lived Twice and it’s very good.

Dear Claudia, Outdoors today for us in Florida is the calm before
the storm. I moved two monarch caterpillars and milkweed inside, as they each look ready to make a chrysalis. Better in than out? In the Times Magazine this week is a feature by someone who collects one book, “1984”. Of course I thought of you.
Shanna says
Stay safe, Leslie. We are monitoring Dorian from our safe place in NY, but are worried about our little FL shack. Best of luck for you, your caterpillars, and anyone else who may be at the mercy of the hurricane gods today.
Claudia says
Stay safe, Leslie. My sister is on the other side of the state, but she’s concerned about her son who lives in Orlando.
And yes, I’d say better in than out. xoxo
kathy in iowa says
praying for your nephew, sister too.

I think they’ll be okay, Kathy. Thank you.

to leslie …
praying for you and everyone else in the path of the storm. including the caterpillars … i appreciate your kindness to such little, vulnerable creatures. i am no expert, but i’d guess better inside and out!
stay safe.

We have a lovely warm & sunny day here today. Had lunch with several people my husband taught with for over 25 yrs and have moved away but all were back here for the weekend. That was much fun to catch up!
Hope you had a fun and productive day. Always nice to get the lawn mowed for another week. Nicer yet to have another day “off” tomorrow!!
Claudia says
Well, I only mowed the back forty. The rest of the lawn is on the docket for the coming week. Your lunch sounds lovely!
