Little girl is adapting pretty gosh-darned well. I’m very proud of her.
She goes a little crazy when I return after rehearsal. But that’s understandable. After all, she is in a place that is not home. Not her kingdom. (You know what, Scoutie? I feel the same way.) But all in all, she is handling it so well.
Not bad for 15½, not bad at all.
And this girl loves the city streets. She likes seeing all the people, even going so far as to stop when she sees someone coming in the opposite direction, waiting for what she is sure will be extravagant attention. That isn’t always the case, of course. But most people smile and if I had a dime for how many times people have asked “Is she hurt? What happened to her?” I’d be on my way to a nice, fat bank account. I usually say that she limps, but a more accurate description would be ‘hops.’ She does a little hop on her right front leg. Arthritis isn’t easy.
And she loves, loves, loves the park. We go over there at least twice a day.
Oh, by the way, the bike races, loudspeaker, blocked streets (I had to do some major maneuvers to get to rehearsal) lasted until about 6 pm. Oy.
Growing around the property as I prepared to leave for Hartford:
Pretty little flowers that one might call a weed, but you know I don’t do that. There are also little purple versions of the same flower.
I want to officially thank my roses for returning for a second bloom in these early days of autumn. I wish I could wiggle my nose and transport myself back to the cottage every day to see what’s happening in the gardens and water the plants. It would only take about 15 minutes out of my day and I’d have the best of both worlds.
Seems like a perfectly legitimate request, don’t you think?
Today is my day off and I’m going to head over to Trader Joe’s. Since this kitchenette has no oven, I need some microwaveable meals.
And some fresh flowers.
And now, my big news!
I have something to share with you over on the book blog and to say I’m very excited would be an understatement. Deborah Crombie’s newest book, To Dwell in Darkness, comes out tomorrow. (I’ll be reviewing it on this blog a week from today.) I decided to take a risk and and ask her publisher (through TLC Book Tours) if she would be willing to answer some interview questions. She graciously agreed.
Isn’t that neat?
So hop on over to Just Let Me Finish This Page to read my interview with Deborah Crombie.
Happy Monday.

Sounds exciting! Glad you both are settling in! Forgot to mention yesterday, how beautiful that picture was…suitable for framing! Enjoy your day off! ;)
Claudia says
Thanks, Donnamae! Hope you enjoy the interview.

So good to see Scout looking comfortable in her new surroundings. I thought she’d settle in once she saw that you are okay. I love your description of how she waits for (and expects) lavish attention from people on the street. My Annabelle always did that, and if someone just passed her by she’d look at me like, “What’s with them?” Makes me smile even now just thinking about it.
Claudia says
She does expect it. Today, a little boy in the park came up and petted her. He was adorable.
Vanessa Bower says
Maybe in Miss Scout’s previous life, prior to adopting you, and Don, she was a city girl. Or, maybe she just loves the big city vibe once in a while like her Mom & Dad.
Claudia says
It’s a change, I guess. She loves our cottage because she knows it, but she’s a people person.
Linda @ A La Carte says
So proud of Scout and her setteling in! She is such a beautiful girl and I bet she does like a bit of city adventure!! Going over to read the interview!!
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
She’s such an amazing sport about the whole thing.

An annual motorcycle attracting hundreds of thousands to the island sends us fleeing to Houston to spend the weekend with our daughter as the noise is so exhausting . Said daughter is a vegetarian who dotes on Trader Joe’s. Have you tried the eggplant stack?
Claudia says
Yes, though I am not a big fan of eggplant.
Chy says
So happy Scout is settling in. Was worried after your post the first day. Glad she loves the park and city life!
Claudia says
She’s hanging in there, Chy.
Nancy Blue Moon says
I my a pretty little bouquet of those white and purple flowers the other day and brought inside to enjoy..can’t wait to see what flowers you buy today..I’ve never been to a Trader Joe’s before but would love to someday..I’m headed over to read your interview..What luck that she said yes!!
Extra hugs to Scout today for being such a good girl..
Claudia says
They look like they’re in the aster family, don’t they?
Nancy Blue Moon says
That’s what I always thought too Claudia..just looked them up and from what I see they are a type of wild Aster..
Janet in Rochester says
Oh, I can completely relate to nighttime noise issues. My own experiences feature the adventures of an obnoxiously-loud, unemployed 20-something “neighbor” who lived in the apartment above mine. Or I should say, PARTIED in the apartment above mine. Let’s just say things were very unpleasant for several years for me and others in that building – until the guy was finally evicted. PS – Claudia, have you ever tried Stouffer’s Vegetable Lasagna. It’s one of the best commercially-made dishes I’ve ever eaten [and I’m pretty fussy]. I buy the party-size now for my freezer and can get about 16 meals from it, but they have individual portions too.
Claudia says
Oh, I’ve had so many loud neighbors in the past – most of them when I lived in apartments. The thudding bass is a sound I had to deal with in almost every apartment I lived in. It’s a real trigger for me.
I think I’ve tried the Stouffers but I’m not sure. I’ll definitely give it a try, Janet.
Marsha Lash says
So glad everyone is settling in. Could you ask management if they could get you a small toaster oven so you could maybe make some meals in there (if you want). Instead of just microwave food. Just a thought as I love my toaster oven and feel lost without one. Great to reheat stuff in too. Soon you all will be home and life will be back to normal :)
Claudia says
I don’t think they have them available, but I’m glad you brought that up. I bet I could use the one downstairs off the lobby – they use if for the breakfast buffet, etc. Thanks, Marsha!
Trudy Mintun says
I am very glad for both of you that Scout has settled in. I know the worry you have for her.
We have those pretty little flowers here too. I am sure they are weeds, but I love them. They remind me of daisies.
Claudia says
I’m wondering if they are in the aster family. That’s what they remind me of!
Chris k in Wisconsin says
She really looks at peace in that picture! Does she smile when she is at the park… to encourage people to stop? Our 2 Greys do that. It is quite funny. I don’t know how anyone can resist the sweet smile of a dog!
I think the 15 minute Time Travel is a grand idea!! Wouldn’t that be great?
Hope things are more quiet tonight and that you had fun at TJ’s. Love that store!!
Claudia says
She smiles all the time. She was temporarily named Smiley when we adopted her.
June says
The flowers look like fleabane that I had in my yard here in Texas. Lovely photo of Scout.
Mary says
Surely wild asters! Very pretty – I have dark blue ones.
Love that pic of Scout with the colors in your quilt behind her. Glad she’s doing better now.
Happy Autumn dear Claudia.
