She’s Coming Down

January 17, 2026 at 8:56 am by Claudia

The Christmas tree is coming down today. We’ve really pushed it to its limit this year –  it’s dry as a bone. We’ll have to wrap it in a sheet so that Don can take it outside, otherwise it will be a real mess around here. This morning, I didn’t turn the lights on and that was a sign. Time to go.

It snowed overnight, about an inch. (I’m over snow – it has lost its charm.) Don is outside right now, clearing the driveway. After I finish this post, I’ll remove the lights from the Christmas tree.

We’re keeping the feather tree up for a while. I took all the Christmas ornaments off and packed them away. I used some neutral ornaments and the acorn ornaments that I have. I suppose I’ll have to come up with something for February. I’m not a big Valentine’s Day person…

I cannot take any more news right now. I checked in this morning and I had the overwhelming sense that I need to take a break. Don had that same sense. So we’re checking out. Time to create and clean and play music and whatever else needs to be done.

We watched Cinema Paradiso  last night. I think it has officially become our favorite movie. Life affirming, beautifully done – a love letter to movies and the cinema.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Your tree gave its all…glad you got to enjoy it so long. We woke up this morning to a fresh 4 inches of distraction…otherwise known as snow. And it’s still falling. It takes a bit to clear all our snow…so that’s today’s activity.

Remember not too long ago when we didn’t worry about things in the government? No news, was incredibly, good news. Those were the days, eh?
I keep praying that things will change for the better, sooner than later.

Time to finish my morning coffee, and get on with my day. Enjoy yours! ;)

Oh, I know it! I long for the days when we didn’t even have to think about the government!

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

kind of you both to put your Christmas tree as food and shelter for little friends outside. :)

not into valentines day, either. i just want to show my love every day. anyway, am sure you will come up with seasonal or every-day ornaments for the little feather tree. it looks pretty as is.

a movie sounds good. haven’t ever seen “cinema paradiso”. we have basic cable here, no subscription channels like netflix, and i just checked our guide … “it happened one night” starts at noon so will watch that while having a frozen pizza. need to get groceries after two-plus weeks of being sick. i finally tested negative for covid this morning, but my sister tested positive again, so we’re going with what we have. i still can’t taste anything, but the idea of pizza (and a movie) sounds good on a snowy day. :)

hope you, don and everyone else are well and stay safe.

I left my decorations up for extra long this year. The lights seem to make a big difference. I haven’t seen cinema Paradiso since it came out low these many years ago. It is such a beautiful film in so many ways, and the music haunts me. Taking a break is a very good idea. Wishing you and Don some peaceful cozy days.

You had a beautifully shaped tree and it was fun to see the ornaments. You enjoyed it as long as you could. One time, with an artificial tree, I just kept putting off taking it down…ended up putting valentines on it…just once. I’ve been cutting my news watching, seems to get more unbelievable every day. I saw too late that Cinema Paradiso on…next time.

My last tree (except the woodland tree that will stay up till Equinox) will be down this morning. It’s different with artificial trees — not so much pressure but not quite as beautiful either! I hear you on the news and am in the same camp. Yesterday we enjoyed “Bookish” (the new mystery with Mark Gatiss and then a rereun of the Cumberbatch “Sherloc.” Hibernating during the day as it is so cold out. We’re due for a major temp drop (single digits, sub-zero wind chill) next week. Michigan. What can I say? You know the drill. But this seems worse, maybe since the previous couple of winters have been pretty mild.

Here’s hoping the day is a good one, as you reclaim your space!

We are also in those very cold temps for the next week or so. And we have to shovel today.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

We have a skiff of snow here, but still have wind squalls. My little Indian girlfriend and I went out yesterday and went to a few stores. Amrit hadn’t been out in 10 days! I feel a little sadness to think that she may go back to India – we’ve just had so much fun together. I met her by chance.

I haven’t been following the news much, but from what I’ve seen, I think the world is falling in on itself, or something. Wow.

In a few weeks I’ll see the internist doctor again. Or maybe sooner, I hope. I’m hanging in there. I dozed at Dad’s today as he prepared his lunch. Tonight is a Big Brother night and I have to be in bed early because I have an early morning. I think I’ll go and put the flowers I just bought (fake of course) at my cousin Janet’s grave. It’s just past two years that she died so suddenly. I miss her every day. Why do good people die young anyways? She was so kind, also funny.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
