Reality Shot

September 22, 2011 at 10:49 am by Claudia

I’m going to start a regular Thursday Feature.  It’s called Reality Shot. I know that we all love the pretty, very often staged, photos throughout Blogland. I sure do. However, that’s not real life and it’s easy to be intimidated by all the ‘perfect’ photos. I know that the few times I have posted what I call harsh reality shots, they’ve met with a lot of positive response.

So, every Thursday I will post a photo that takes an honest look at a space and/or mess in my house. If you like this idea, maybe I could make it a weekly meme.

Today: the kitchen table. It’s looked like this for weeks now.

Starting in the lower left hand corner:

Photo enlargements from Shutterfly
Stacks of medical bills – they keep on comin’
Beautiful McCoy jardiniere filled with crap
Legal pads, envelopes, W-2s – we always file an extension on our taxes and the paperwork has to be at our accountant’s in the next week.
A bill or two
Roll of craft paper – I used some when I was painting the dollhouse door
Plates and a tin that I will eventually have in my etsy shop, plus the receipts
In the middle: more receipts

Welcome to my world. If you’re interested in taking part in a weekly meme, let me know.

Have a great Thursday!

Somehow your ‘harsh reality’ feels less harsh than mine. Glad to know others use their table as a paperwork staging area. :-) Thanks for keepin’ it real! xo -amy

I LOVE this idea! I, too, love all the gorgeous planned layouts, but I love that other people can also have those not-so-perfect moments and places in their homes and lives. Thanks for the post, it’s refreshing.

… keepin’ it real. If I were to take a pic of my cottage this morning, you’d see the lumber on the floor that we are keeping dry as we build our new shed. Ha-haaaa, you wouldn’t see THAT in a magazine. :)
    Have a happy one,

Today would be the day for me to begin
since I really straightened yesterday afternoon and evening
Reason: phone call from Cousin from AZ phone to say they would be stopping by our house this morning.

Everything is in a neat place, dust has been pushed aside and the place it good for a ‘quick’ lookie-loo.

Should I grab my camera while the gettings good????

Great idea ‘Shot in Real’. From my keyboard (on my tabletop) I see the dog brush, 2 used plates, a glass and a juice jug, a pile of bills, the grocery list, camera, empty envelopes, notebook, pen and pencil, housecoat over the chair back and some string and elastic bands (and that is just the table top area).
Hope you are feeling better today.

You should see MY kitchen table! It is always a place to put bills, etc. Right now it has bills, newspaprer, magazines, more papers, camera, pens, and 2 coats hanging on the chairs. I am so glad to see that other people have imperfect homes! Usually we just see the “good” shots.

What a neat idea! I manage to keep most of the public places of the house pretty neat; after all, it’s only my husband and myself. He works at home so spends 8-10 hours a day in his “office” which is a disaster area that I mostly avoid. And my “office area” is in the guest room where the guest part looks pretty good but no matter what I do or how often I clean it up my desk is a major mess! I like this idea … Blessings, Ann

Oh thank goodness someone else has a kitchen table that mirrors mine! I’ve never dared show it because somehow it became DH’s second office. He has a whole room upstairs as an office but still uses the table also! I keep nagging him to clear it off so we can actually eat there again – he will, he promises, but not until this return to work from retirement returns to true retirement – if you get my drift!

I’m embarrassed, BUT I’ll join your fun ‘Shot in Real’ Thursday feature and show the disaster area – just remind me next Wednesday to clean it up a wee bit!!!!!!!!!

Hee hee hee…. how funny. We all have reality spaces in our home. I mean, who can live in a space that looks like a magazine all the time. My husband would never allow that and told me when I met him that he would not live in a ‘perfect’ house. And so we don’t. :-))

Great idea, Claudia. I’m in… mostly I have way more reality than pretty around the house right now. I already posted “my reality” tonight, but can’t wait to see what you have in store for future memes.

Love it! I actually took a pic of my table yesterday but never got it downloaded to the computer – maybe I will show it tomorrow. I am sure I would never lack for opportunity since when I take most pics I could just shift the camera a little in any direction and snap!

    Hey Pretty Lady,

Awesome idea, as the comment above me is pretty much what I was gonna’ say, I really don’t have much else to add. However, your idea of a mess (as your table shows) is really quite tidy and organized and now I really can’t show anything of mine…..it’s too scary!

Hope your weekend is going great.

    Love ya’
    Meri

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
