Shutters

February 3, 2011 at 8:38 am by Claudia

When I’m not in the city, this is my schedule: get up, drink coffee in flannel pjs, put on old clothes and don’t take a shower yet because I will be shoveling, shovel, come back in the house, go back out and shovel some more, work on dollhouse, shovel some more, come in and take a shower. By this time it’s 4:00, so I put my pajamas back on and drink hot chocolate.

And there you have it.

I have to post this quickly as I am going back to Manhattan today. I painted shutters yesterday and glued them on in the evening.

What do you think? I’m really happy with the result. Now I am thinking about the new door and what color it should be….decisions, decisions.

Hope everyone has recovered from the ‘snow event.’

    Good Morning Girlfriend,

The house looks fantastic, and I think a bright cherry red door will just do the trick!

    Good Morning Claudia Sweetie…
Oh I love the shutters on the house, are they not delicious. How cozy and homey. I have to agree with Meri. I am thinking a red door would be perfect. Can’t wait to see what speaks to your little heart.

Have a safe trip into Manhattan today sweet friend. Stay warm, and at least you get a break from shoveling today.

Many hugs and much love, Sherry

    Good morning Claudia!

I love the doll house and the color on the shutters is heavenly! I am inclined to go with the others and vote for a cherry red door. It will be fun to see what you choose. Have a safe trip back to the city. Please do me a favor and have a bowl of soup at O-Lunney’s for me sometime~I love that place!
Stay safe and remember; only 45 days til S-P-R-I-N-G!!!

Love watching you give this little house new life!
My first thought was a red door, too. Then, I also thought yellow might be nice. I am currently working with some turquoise and peach embroidery floss, and loving that color combination! The good thing about little doll houses — you can do whatever you want that might not necessarily look good on a real house! Enjoy your trip to the city!

One of my favorite Victorians in St. Augustine was painted the most wonderful shade of peachy pink. It had white trim and blue shutters about the color of those. What about a peachy pink color? You are a pinky after all!

Good morning Claudia, hope your trip into the city goes well. Your description of your morning made me smile – it was just precious! I love, love, love the shutters and that color is just gorgeous! I’m not sure about a color for the door but think the red might be too harsh – what statement do you want to make? Ciao, bella!

Claudia- Your dollhouse is just stunning! I am leaning more towards a lovely deep peach door too- I think that would compliment the decor in your home and still look lovely on the house itself. Travel safely and stay warm ♥

The house is coming along beautifully! (Mine is still sitting in the garage!) My first thought was a yellow door. The yellow flowers in your header look lovely with the bluey-greens around it.

    Enjoy the big city today!

Claudia you are so funny! I always look forward to seeing if you’ve posted something new ~

The shudder color is perfect. The touch of gray you mixed in has them “talking” to the roof very nicely (: I’m with the majority, my first thought was red for the door – a color pop.

    Safe journey my friend xo

I just laughed when I read the order of things if you were not going into the city. P.j.s and hot cocoa sound like the perfect plan. Shoveling snow…not so much. Building snowmen, more fun. I love the house and the shutters (I must sent you photos of my doll house in a box by e-mail…looking forward to having it put together) I think red would be too harsh, also. When you look at a color wheel, what is opposite of this color? I love the thought of some type of pink..will you put a little wreath or something on the door? As I look at the house I ‘see’ window boxes under each window, including the dormers!! How fun would that be? Of course, that is MY vision as I look at what you’ve done so far and it may be a far cry from what your vision is. :)

    Be careful shoveling!!!

Hi Claudia! The shutters look great! My first thought for the door was a pink, but not baby pink or purply pink–more like a deep shade of the flowers in your button! That would be a happy and welcoming door! Linda

Yay, so excited to get to see your dollhouse!! My suggestion for the door is a (brightish) navy blue. The great thing about working in miniature is that you can try out different colors without spending heaps of $$$ at the paint store :) And I suggest you cut a piece of card the size of the door and paint that first then just pop it into place and see what you think. You can play around remixing the paint until you get the shade just right. Another plus of working in mini – so easy and cheap to mix ‘custom’ colours to your heart’s content.

I’m sorry that you have such cold weather and so much snow to contend with but I am happy that it’s giving you ‘dollhouse time’ because I’m sure when spring comes around it’ll be impossible to keep you indoors!

A big hug from a very warm Sydney :)

The shutters turned out so well and brighten up the whole house! Glad you get to return to “the city”, but I imagine your journey will be long and cold.

Even though I have no snow to shovel, I am going to adopt your routine substituting lemonade for the hot cocoa, raking leaves for the snow. Seriously I don’t know how you do it! Hope this is the last snowstorm for you! Ann

Lovely house, can I move in please!

Deep charcoal grey door – almost black – with brushed nickel hardware, including a door knocker. Black house numbers on the wall to the right. Black wrought iron window baskets for trailing variegated ivy, bright yellow and purple pansies.

Oh this is such fun…….I want one of my own!

Warm hugs. Just getting into my flannels too, and filling my hot water bottle – the sleet has just started, another cold night.

Your dollhouse is looking so beautiful. My little Claudia has been keeping a close watch on all the progress. She has asked we if we could work on one together. So you’ve totally inspired us! What scale is your dollhouse? I just don’t want to pick to small of a scale for her little hands. Any help would be great!

I love the shutters. What are you not happy about with them? I think the door would look great in a deeper shade of turquoise or in a deeper gray than the roof. But, you didn’t ask for my opinion on these things.
Your schedule sounds so awful! Have you had to shovel your roof? My girls have talked about it, but I don’t know if they’ve done it.
