Small Things

March 13, 2019 at 10:45 am by Claudia

My little row of butter pats. I think I have about 14 or 15 now, most of them ironstone. Most of them, in fact,  are from the same dealer where I found the egg cup cubby. I love small things.

Another Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs egg cup came up for auction. Unfortunately, it was Doc. Doc frequently comes up for auction, much more than any other egg cup in that collection. I’ll keep hoping for Sleepy.

This morning there was such lovely bird song! Tiny little birds were in the tree outside the den window. I tried to identify them but I’m not sure; sparrows? chickadees? I couldn’t get a good look at them. Several of them were in the tree and they kept flitting from branch to branch. Now that I look at my bird book, I’m thinking they were sparrows. Hearing their song was such a nice way to start the day.

The sun is shining and the snow is melting. That’s all I need today.

I ordered this book, originally published in Great Britain. It just came out this week here in the States. I reviewed one of Garfield’s other books, Just My Type, several years ago. In Miniature  is all about our fascination with small things. Guilty as charged. Of course, I had to get it.

Today I have to sort through our many W2s – you have no idea – and send them off to our accountant in Los Angeles, so that we can file an extension. Since we have to wait for all of the W2s to arrive here, we almost never file our taxes by April 15th. And often, though not this year, one of us is away working. Then I’m going to clean the pew with some Murphy’s Oil Soap. And read, of course. I’m currently reading a book I’m going to review on Monday – all about birds! Stay tuned.

Happy Wednesday.

best wishes on the taxes. hope an easier day (milder weather, you and don both feeling much better) will help.

same with hearing birds sing and talk in the morning … love it!

that last photo looks like an optical illusion. :)

had a big annual fancy-dinner-and-meeting (for where i work) last night. i am pleased that my boss heard lots of people say good things about the work i do, my written report and the talk i had to give … and that it’s over for another year. :)

    happy wednesday!

            to wendy t …

thanks very much for your kind wishes, too!

yes, it is very good for the boss to hear other people say good things about us!!! unfortunately, my boss doesn’t seem to believe in any positive feedback (at a similar fancy-dinner-and-meeting a few years ago, as i was up at the podium talking, she sat in her chair repeatedly tapping a finger on her watch as if to say “wrap it up … you’re taking too long” … nice, huh?).

anyway … i appreciate your congrats, too, and hope your day is going well!

            and to claudia …

thanks for letting me share that little bit of good news from last night here on your wonderful blog!

          to chris k …

thank you very much for your kind words!

words can sure hurt, but i learned a long time ago not to depend on what others say for my self-worth/esteem (and most days do alright about that). i know it’s more important to be able to stand up for ourselves and that what matters most is in the eyes of God … but i still want my boss to see me as a valuable employee (i need to work, after all) and, especially in this sometimes-hard world, it’s nice to hear some positive feedback from other people. thanks for your good wishes!

it’s raining here in des moines and that (along with 48 degree temperatures) is helping to melt lots of inches-thick old ice and snow. hope you’re getting some milder weather up in wisconsin, too, and having a good day!

Ah…the elusive Sleepy. Some day….soon, I hope. That book next to the chair is indeed an optical illusion. How fun!

I’m off to my ladies lunch….always a fun time. Enjoy your day! ;)

Sounds like a nice productive day! Tomorrow I am packing up all of the snow peeps I still have out and about in the house on various shelves & window ledges. I love them, but will be so happy to pack them up! The snow is melting as the rain is falling. Lots of flooding. Ah, Spring!! Not my favorite season. I love the idea of spring. The reality of March & April is what does me in! May is what I want ALL of Spring to be like!! “If wishes were horses….”

Claudia, taxes… a big reason I don’t like March. I’m done with the “rough draft” but need printer paper to print out the forms after I fill them in. I ran out. Tonight I’ll go buy some.

I’m not finished reading my Louise Penny and it’s due today. The library won’t renew it, as someone else has requested it. I’m wondering if it’s my friend, who is on the same Penny reading track I’m on? So, I’ll head to the library with books to turn in and donations for the free magazine exchange. Then I’m packing up fabric to send to the Navajo Nation. Purging and decluttering are what fuel me now! It feels so good to get some of the “stuff” burden off my shoulders!

So frustrating not to have finished the book yet! I hope you can find time to finish it.

Yes, it is! The murder hasn’t even happened yet! Oh we’ll. I’ll return it and request it again. I’ll get it back in three weeks. Meanwhile, I’ll have lots to do while I’m waiting. I want to read the books in order, even if the other side are available.

A happy post. Because birdsong is really what spring is all about. Well, and sun. And no snow.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
