High heat and humidity, plus a heavy layer of smoke from the wildfires in Canada is making the air quality around here quite harmful. So we’ve been staying inside. I run outside to water wearing goggles and a mask. My chronic respiratory issues are definitely impacted by this. One more day of smoke – I think – and it should get better. It’s very hard to deal with but nothing compared to what Canada is experiencing. I pray for everyone there, every living thing. I can’t bear to think about the animals who are trapped. And the First Nations members who have lost entire communities. Please, please, universe – let there be some relief today.
Rowan when she first arrived. I finally found room for her on one of the shelves, but it required some reassigned seating.
Late yesterday afternoon, I started laying the floor in the entrance hallway. Today, I’ll finish it. Messy, fussy work, which ends with glue and stain all over my fingers.
I have to read a lot over the next couple of days as Land will be due at the library. It is an exquisite piece of writing. Maggie O’Farrell is one of my favorites.

i’ve heard/read that at least some of the fires in northern minnesota are considered due to arson – protest against the decision to allow another country (and probably also our own) to mine for copper by the exquisitely beautiful boundary waters. arson would be a stupid, horrible way to protest a stupid, horrible decision. :(

Hi Claudia! I just LOVE the view out through the front door of The Beacon Hill! The flooring is looking wonderful as I was sure it would. This house just gets better and better! The atmosphere you are creating is beautiful and serene. What a joy to see it develop!
We are also suffering the smoke pall… it has been awful. The magnitude of the destruction of those fires is hard to comprehend. Climate change is not our friend.
I am glad Rowan has found a spot to settle in. :)

We have had some of the worst air quality ever here. Scary. Supposedly, the wind is changing this afternoon….but more smoke is returning for Saturday. It’s an awful situation all around.
It’s good that you have an indoor project to work on….the floors. I’ll be busy doing something indoorsy, too.

Morning.
I spent a portion of the night working on my sore neck. I have a heat pack on it right now.
Yesterday in the morninng I packed lunches for all these kids from Ontario and Manitoba and here. They’re all doing these volunteer projects in town for a week. It’s a big crew, took a lot of organizing and such. Then I got a lift to the mall and ended up getting my hair cut into a short bob. I was growing it but changed my mind. My mom would have Loved it! It’s my old go-to hair cut. The girl who did it recognized me right away, I didn’t, because of all the plastic in her face and I think her boobs. Laura’s mom was there too, so we talked afterwards a long time. That was really fun. Why would a pretty girl go and have all that unnecessary work done to herself? Anyways, then I went home on the bus.
It’s pretty darn hot here too. I went outside in the evening to get some work done.
I want to prep a canvas for a painting.
Another boy I babysat committed suicide. Oh, he was such a sweetie! His mom was my boss and I just dropped over to their house about a month ago, because June gave me a plant for my flower garden. The family is so awesome. Poor June and Gary. OMG
I have an Echo this morning. I just spoke to the specialist dr last week who said he can’t do any more for me. Well, this is for him. Geesh
Unfortunately, I have lost several friends to suicide over the years. It’s heartbreaking, especially for those left behind.

Horribly smoky in the D also. Yet the Ann Arbor Art Fair is going on, and Farmington’s Founder’s Festival is this weekend. Had to pick up some masks at CVS last night & couldn’t believe all the people setting up for the festival, or just sitting on a bench, or attending the outdoor music concert downtown Farmington without masks. A little better today until I drove down Grand River into Detroit. Have a head ache just from the air quality. Safe safe & inside. Oh and woke up in the middle of the night & watched CBC’s The National about the people losing their homes, and communities in Northern Ontario.
I can’t even imagine the heartbreak throughout Canada.

Hope your air quality improves – farther south we are at the hazy stinky air stage. So hard for the people and critters where the actual fires are!
