Snow

March 10, 2022 at 9:03 am by Claudia

It snowed all day long yesterday. A heavy, wet snow with big, flat flakes. Snow coated the bushes and tree limbs. It’s still that way this morning. We’re warming up into the forties today, so much of it will disappear later in the day. It’s actually quite lovely. Hopefully, it’s the last snow this winter, but March is March, so we’ll see. As it is, we don’t have to be anywhere and I’m going to let the warmer temps later today function as our “shovel.”

I’m getting restless for spring, though there are certainly things to occupy my time indoors. Deep cleaning and sorting and donating, for one. Painting, working on both of the dollhouses, reading (which I have been doing, but I haven’t been allowing myself big chunks of time with a book.) This is always a tricky time – spring is coming but it isn’t here yet. The weather gets quite warm for a day or two and you can smell spring in the air and then it snows a day later. And even when it does get warmer, there’s a period of time when all you can do is clean up the yard and wait. In this area of the country, I can’t uncover the garden beds until it’s safe for new growth. I certainly can’t plant seeds until the first week of May. But once it’s warmer, I can clean some of the siding on the house and clean the porch railings with a bleach solution.

Did I tell you that the roofers fixed our gutter? They even pitched the gutter so that the water would flow down the gutter more efficiently. Wasn’t that lovely? We didn’t ask them to do it, they just did it. The supervisor said “We couldn’t do all the work on the roof and leave the gutter that way.”

In these times, little kindnesses mean a great deal.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

That was so nice of the roofing people. It made me tear up that they went above and beyond. I think I must becoming strange or cynical when a kind gestures make me cry. I am glad your roofing issues are taken care of !

With both of our birthdays in March, we have a vast memory bank of snowy birthdays, sunny birthdays, and drizzly birthdays (having had so many birthdays!). But the best thing about March seems to me to be the imminence of Spring, whether or not you get the reality of it. We are hanging in and hoping for better weather soon—for everybody.

Snow coming tomorrow. Maybe a lot of it. Then next week, temps in the fifties. Go figure.

      Stay safe, Shanna.

A job is finished when everything is fixed. It wouldn’t match otherwise. :-)

Heartwarming to hear of everyday acts of kindness, of folks who go above & beyond, and those who simply take the time to make things right. Bless your roofers for being not only skilled and competent, but also for being so kind, caring, and considerate.

Have a peaceful & relaxed Thursday.
    Stay safe & well.

How do you ‘cover’ the garden beds for winter such that they have to be ‘uncovered’ for Spring? Is it a protective mulch you put over them, between seasons? I’m uninformed of this sort of thing!

I don’t remove the fallen leaves from our trees. They serve as mulch.

      Stay safe, Vicki.

    Your roofers are jewels!!

Spring in northern Nevada is creeping nearer, no matter what the daily lows are. I hear the songbirds each morning and my roses have small red leaf tips beginning to appear. Like you, I’m keeping busy inside. Somehow the fact that spring will be here momentarily (monthetarily?) has me working as though there is a deadline approaching. I’m doing all those inside things that will take a backseat when and if I can work in my garden instead!

Even though I’m dreaming of springtime, I’m still hoping for inches of precipitation that is sorely needed and wanted. So…kinda jealous of your wet sticky snow that’s so magical as it coats each branch and twig (and then melts away with no need for shoveling).

    Stay strong and stay safe!

I hope you get that precipitation, Roxie.

We have more snow coming tomorrow. I’m not happy.

      Stay safe!

Spring is always such a tease. Our daughter has a BD on the 20th & the Wee-one is the 21st. So we always celebrate one on the 1st day of Spring which is always one of those two days.

Yay to good people out there. Always so good to hear those stories.

We still have a couple of very cold days ahead til Sun when temps start going up. We can do it!! Take care.

It’s warm today but snow and wind are coming tomorrow and Sunday. Sigh.

Now THOSE are wonderful roofers! That’s lovely.

I think you are getting what we had earlier this week — 60s, then snow within a day or so. Then 40s. All that snow melted and today I woke up to two fresh inches and more is coming down as I write. It’s that kind of lazy snowfall — steady to be sure, but large flakes that gently fall without the benefit of a swirling wind. Rick is going north to hopefully ski but it could be dicey if we get the expected melt. Or rain. I think he’s going to take his bike, too so he’ll have options!

Me, I’m staying home and puttering. I have to drop off a bunch of bags to Goodwill today, which always feels productive and maybe pick up a bunch of tulips or something living to brighten the mood. I’m hearing some beautiful birdsong outside and am glad I filled the feeders yesterday! They’re packing it in!

Have a lovely fickle March weekend.

We’re getting a winter storm tomorrow – anywhere from 2 – 5 inches. With wind. I’m not a happy camper!

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
