Snow is Coming

December 1, 2025 at 7:51 am by Claudia

We have snow coming tomorrow. We knew it was in the forecast, but delayed running pre-snow errands until today. We have to check the shed to see if we have an leftover salt from last year (I think we do), we have to get out the snow shovels. Don has to start up the snowblower to make sure it runs. We have to run to the bank, to the hardware store, to the grocery store. Yikes!

We’re always excited at the thought of our first snowfall. We’ve had a few snow showers in the past couple of days, but not the 5 to 8 inches expected tomorrow. And it’s going to fall during the day, so we can watch it falling.

Don had a gig on Saturday that ended up being much longer than expected and it involved a lot of driving so he was very tired at the end of the day, which is why we stayed home yesterday. He needed to rest.

Rest in Peace to the brilliant playwright and human being, Tom Stoppard. To me, he was our greatest living playwright. I met him when I was working at the Old Globe and he was generous, kind, and so intelligent. He and Jack O’Brien, who was the Artistic Director at the Globe, forged a friendship and partnership with Jack eventually directing several of his plays on Broadway. I was honored and humbled to meet him.

Gilly in front of the little Christmas tree.

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

that’s a lot of errands and tasks for you both, but soon they will be done and worth it when you and don can rest, knowing you’re ready, stocked up and can stay indoors, safe and warm, and enjoy watching the snow fall!

glad if don’s gig went well, other than the longer drives/hours.

we received ten inches of snow late friday until about 7:00 pm saturday. beautiful! just don’t like the hardships so much snow can cause, nor having to miss walking outside. going to walk in a mall this morning … not my first choice, but at least it’s available.

gilly’s dress is a reminder of why i want to learn how to weave. i love patterns (am especially partial to stripes, checks and plaids) and i especially love blues (and greens, especially teal-y blue-greens and french blues) and i want to make some of my own! i can’t imagine ever having a floor loom large enough to make yardage … but scarves and kitchen towels of my own weaving? yes, i’d like that very much. i think i’ll be referring many times to this photo of gilly’s dress for inspiration (thank you).

for now i need to get going on my to-do list.

hope you, don and everyone else have a good day with cooperative weather. stay safe.

      Thank you, Kathy.

A lady from France made that dress. I really like it.

      Stay safe!

We had a 8 inches over the weekend and I’m lucky that my oldest son who lives with me can handle most of the snowblowing and shoveling! I help a bit but it was quite heavy in spots so I would have struggled.
Please be careful and safe while you two are clearing snow!

We will. We won’t even try to clear anything until Wednesday.

      Stay safe, Ellen.

I had forgotten about Gilly – she needs a sweater for the winter! Congratulations on the impending snow – we so rarely get any that the idea of preparing is exotic. But I did put a faux evergreen wreath on the door to the garage yesterday.

    Cheers, Ceci

I still remember coming across “Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” on my parent’s local PBS station on weekend afternoon and being completely entranced.

Gilly is very cute in her sweet dress. She’ll need a sweater tomorrow with the snow coming. We’re supposed to get snow tomorrow, too. Don’t you two overdo the shovelling especially if it is heavy, wet snow. Pace yourselves. Stay warm and cozy. Hugs, Elaine

No sweaters, though, I have a few. She can stay inside so she’s just fine.

Don will most likely use the snowblower, Elaine.

      Stay safe.

dear Claudia/Don — I think winter has arrived for you !! Today, we are to get snow in the overnite and Tu a.m. Sounds like a “big” mess here b/c freezing rain comes first, which I detest!!
won’t do Kro pickup until Th hopefully most of the mess will have moved out. Being old in this type of weather is REALLY no fun!! hope you get everything checked off your list!
Have been working to put Holiday stuff out — seems gchildren/children have come to expect it! Have done lots of online shopping but not quite done — delivery workers doing overtime for me!
Do be careful on the roads — stay safe/healthy

Oh, I hate freezing rain! I feel the same way.

We ran all our errands today and plan to sit tight until Thursday. We live on a country road, so it’s cleared very quickly.

      Stay safe.

That first snowfall is exciting. On Saturday, we were able to watch our gentle snow fall, not believing the forecast of 9+ inches. It simply wasn’t falling fast enough for us to believe it would accumulate to that much. However, much to our surprise, come Sunday morning we woke to 11.7 inches.

So…scurry around today, and get all your errands done. Then sit back and enjoy the snow as it falls! It is so worth the wait! ;)

Yes, all errands have been completed.

We took our afternoon naps and we’re ready to watch the snow.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

It’s December! Lots to do before the first snow, but it must be beautiful! Hope you get all your chores done… my lists never seem to get done as timely as I’d like.

      Chores are done.

We’ll just sit back now and wait for the snow to fall.

      Stay safe, Barrie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
