Looks like 7 inches at the birdbath, but since we’re on hilly property, that amount will be 8 or 9 inches elsewhere. But the birdbath is a good place to measure because it’s on relatively flat ground.
The good news? It’s fluffy and light. What a difference that makes!
Don went out around 8 am or so and worked on starting the snowblower. It always takes a while, especially after not using it for a long time. He moved it up on the porch the day before yesterday because he has to plug it in first. It needs a little electricity. We have no electricity in the shed.
The next thing I knew he was headed down the driveway. He always tries to clear the area by the street which, once the County plows do their thing, has piles of snow to get through. Plus, he wants to clear a path for the mail truck. I shoveled outside the side door and shoveled a path to the propane tank. I’m going to go out later and shovel around the car. Don did a lot of work. As he said when I said that “instead of hours of shoveling, the snowblower clears it so quickly,” – “Its a different kind of effort.” And he’s right. I can’t even push that snowblower, it’s so heavy. So I can’t help him with that. That’s why I’ll go out later and take care of the area around the car.

There’s a lot of snow, but less than I thought there would be. Though the forecast did say 5 – 10 inches and that proved true for us. It is very cold out there, only in the 20s.
We don’t have someone plow because our experience is that the plow sends all of our Item 4 (the gravel on the driveway) flying and we can’t afford to replace the gravel every year. We have yet to find a person plowing who can stop that from happening. I trust that when we reach the point in our lives where we need help, we’ll find the right person.
That’s it. That’s the news.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Well…at least it’s fluffy lol. Glad all went well with the snowblower. Seems like it’s always a hold your breath moment when it’s time to start up our snowblower. One of these years…
Did you hear about the abridged version of It’s a Wonderful Life? They cut out pivotal scenes. The heart of the movie, when Clarence shows George what life would’ve been like for others, if George hadn’t been born. I couldn’t believe it. Why? Makes no sense to me.
Anyway…enjoy the fresh snow…and your day! ;)
Yes, I heard about that. What the hell? What is the use of showing the movie if the reason the story is being told is cut out?
Thanks, Donnamae.
Stay safe.
Claudia, what a beautiful snow! We have had none, so thanks for sharing yours in a picture. It is incredible until it isn’t. We have been lucky to have young men next door that shovel our walks when they do their own, but they are now off to college. I’m like you in that I enjoy doing some of that work, but I know anything over 3” and heavy is serious work.
Do you have cardinals in your area?
Glad to see your snow was light and fluffy and therefore enjoyable. Have a lovely day in your wintery spot.
Verna
Yes, we have cardinals. I saw a female sitting on the edge of the birdbath the other day.
Thanks so much, Verna.
Stay safe.
the snow is beautiful! yes, its beauty is aided by being light and fluffy, for sure! and by you having a snow-thrower and by all your hard work. glad you two can now rest and relax inside your sweet home. :)
we’ve had mist and fog for a couple days … too bad it makes things dangerous, because i find fog beautiful, too. a mix of rain, ice (ugh) and snow is forecast here tomorrow. glad we are stocked up and, if need be, can watch church online.
enjoyed another nice walk outside this morning. nice and cool. also pretty quiet. i like all that.
hope you, don and everyone else have a nice weekend. stay safe in every way.
kathy
We are due to get rain on Monday that could have ice potential.
Thanks so much, Kathy.
Stay safe.
hope you get zero ice and, if you do, stay put and stay safe!
kathy
xo
Snow can be a lot of work. That’s why I’m glad I’m in Georgia. If it snows we just shut down and enjoy! They will salt the main streets and highways, but otherwise, you stay bunkered down with family. Build a snow man or two. Have a happy New Year!
Thanks so much, Leslie.
Stay safe.
Looks pretty anyway!
Stay safe!
Thanks, Ellen.

We have had 60’s and 70’s in Nebraska. People had short sleeve shirts on at Christmas Eve Church. Not normal and I didn’t really love it. It didn’t feel like Christmas.
Glad you had a relaxing holiday.
I bet. It reminds me of the years I lived in Southern California. I never got used to it.
Stay safe, Darlene.
You got nailed, but yes, seven is better than 10. And it always is lovely. Till it’s not! We’re due for similar tonight or tomorrow — rain and ice first, always a treat. Be careful of your backs. Yes, I know you know. I’ll say it anyway because we always know — and then… it just happens.
I know. It’s a mess out there now – it rained all night.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Down here in Virginia we just stay home for the rare snows, and usually if one is predicted it doesn’t happen. Meanwhile you have pretty scenery and a replenished water table!
Ceci
The scenery is not so pretty – it’s gray skies constantly. No sunlight glistening on the snow.
Stay safe, Ceci.
It sounds like you had a lovely Christmas! I can’t believe it has come and gone .
It always me happy when my equipment starts and gets the job done. Thus, I am very glad your snow blower started. Yay!
Peace to you and Don,
Kaye
Yay!
Thanks so much, Kaye.

Snow. Rain. More Snow. It was just the two of us this Christmas. We do not exchange gifts with each other. We play santa and mrs Claus to our kids and grandkids. A couple of days before Christmas as I was about to start breakfast my husband told me to get dressed, nothing fancy but be ready by 10. All kinds of crazy thoughts were spinning in my head. None of them great. I do not like surprises. I really dont. I panic thinking he went ahead and booked us on some silly trip for a couple of days…..to get away from the cold. I have to confess, I do not sit and bake in the sun, am afraid of the ocean and do not drink. Well, I tried to keep calm. He said I would guess right away if I were observant. At this point I jokingly said are we going for breakfast with Santa and he said sort of. There was a knock on the door, he opened it and there was a chubby man wearing a Santa hat and carrying a small suitcase. I never noticed that things in the living room had been moved around….my art supplies and some boxes of yet to be wrapped presents. My piano was moved away from the wall and things on top were missing. It seems that my very practical husband was tired of hearing me bang out tunes on my out of tune piano and hired a tuner. It was a couple of hours later and “Kevin” finished and asked me to play a tune. Since I am rather shy…..he helped me get through Jingle Bells and then left . The whole time he was masked, and sanitized the keys before he left. I had a cough, from dry air, and I thought he was nervous about catching something. So…..now I have a tuned piano. I still use the damper pedal and have no excuses for my playing. So it was a practical gift…..and I sort of had breakfast with the real Santa when Kevin left. Merry Christmas.
That is the loveliest Christmas present, Maria! How thoughtful of your husband!
My piano needs tuning, but it’s something I always put off as there are other needs that have priority.
Stay safe.
