Storms & Pumpkins

October 15, 2010 at 6:33 pm by Claudia

Oh boy. We’re in the middle of a nor’easter here. Rain, lots of it, and very windy weather. We don’t want to put the heat on yet. It’s just too early. But this damp, cold weather is getting to me. We’ve cleaned out the gutters at least twice this week and with all the wind, I’m sure we’ll do it again.

Here’s what we plan to do this weekend:

That, and watch baseball.

I’m inclined to leave the cabinet the way it is for a while. I might paint it, but the funky handles are growing on me. I also don’t want things to be too matchy.  So for now….it stays. Who knows? I may change my mind by tomorrow. Thank you for all your wonderful ideas, my friends.

I found the most wonderful pumpkin last weekend. Gorgeous, actually. Well, to me it is.

The light gray color, the texture and color of the raised, veiny areas, all of it makes my heart skip a beat. I think I have placed a moratorium on orange pumpkins for this year.

Where do you think I’ve put it?

On the dollhouse. It remains in the first-coat-of-primer state I left it in when I had to do all my prep for my work in San Diego. But, I’ll get back to it. For now, it’s all decked out for the season.

Have a wonderful weekend!

They say to stay in a house for awhile before renovating, probably the same goes with furniture to make sure you do that perfect thing to it to make if fit in with your home and style and I think it is cool that you are liking it just the way that it is! I have a thing for doll houses, castles play stables (daughter is lucky I love these things and we play with them together….)!! Yours is very pretty!! Pumpkin is beautiful with all the veins? running through it!!
    Have a good weekend!!

Claudia, the dollhouse looks very festive with its matching pumpkin. I can’t wait to see what you do with the dollhouse when you get back to it. Good job so far.

I’ve seen the storm on the news…nasty. Stay dry and safe.

Can you get those chicken wire type gutter guards…that would save a load of work.

The pumpkin is amazing…I’ve never seen one like it.

And I have to say it looks perfect on the only primed dollhouse….very halloweeny :-)

That’s an unusual one, but very beautiful. Today I found a fabulous one here in Asheville – will show you later. To think all we used to have were orange ones, amazing how suddenly people have discovered options for our decor….makes me happy!!!

    hi claudia,

i actually enjoy raking. a fire in the fire pit makes it really nice — having that smell around the yard while doing some yard work always makes the job more palatable.

speaking of palatable … guess where i had lunch today? olga’s! where we had breakfast. first time i’d been there since we went. “our waiter” was there! it was fun remembering our giddy-happy morning there! :)

    happy raking!

LOVE the pumpkin on top of the dollhouse, Claudia! It’s so COLD here, too! We actually have turned on the heat a bit to get rid of the chill.. brrrrr. We had the high winds today, but not a lot of rain.

I think your hutch looks adorable just as it is, but paint is such an easy thing to change if the mood strikes!

Enjoy your weekend of raking, raking, raking and baseball!! … Donna

You are getting free shoulder physical therapy by raking leaves. My list would be the same except it would be Rake pine straw. I adore your pumpkin. ♥O

Claudia, I’m glad you are leaving cupboard as is for now – I could not come up with one helpful idea. We rake in February in Florida, but I feel your pain, while admiring your chalkboard. Stay dry and drink something warm while watching that baseball.

You are such a clever lady! I just redid an old bulletin board we have had hanging on our wall in the kitchen for years. I will be posting about it and other things soon. Where did I get my inspiration? From You! Your little nook you did…on the wall you have one and I went back and looked at it to give me some ideas. Mine is of course different but I drew from yours. Thanks!

haha…have fun raking your leaves!! i don’t miss that at all. luckily the military hires lanscapers to mow and rake our yards. i consider myself pampered in that area!! the leaves are falling so fast here. it is like overnight a bunch of leaves just came down and took over the yard!!
i adore that pumpkin. very unique and artful atop that house. enjoy…..
    oh…and enjoy the game.
    take care

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
