Studio Projects & a Celebration

November 19, 2010 at 4:24 pm by Claudia

The studio fluffing and sprucing continues – inspired by the addition of Letitia. Remember when I made the chalkboard for the kitchen? I had an extra board that I painted with chalkboard paint and I ended up drilling two holes in the top, threading twine through the holes and hanging it in the studio.

Well after the arrival of the cabinet and the dismantling of most of the design wall, I wasn’t sure where to put it. I was considering shoving it in a closet when husband’s words rang in my ears…”why don’t you use the doors to hang things?” Well, I don’t want to use every door (there are 3 of them that open onto the studio) but I started eying the door to the guest room/office/music studio. I found some trim that I had on hand, painted it to match the shelf and the re-imagined bulletin board and glued it to the sides of the chalkboard. Then I threaded some pretty aqua ribbon through the holes. And now it hangs on the door.

By the way, have you tried those fabulous Chalk Ink Wet Wipe Markers? Oh my gosh, they are so much better than chalk. I suppose they are what restaurants use on their chalkboards. I’ve been on the lookout for some and found them the other day at Michael’s. I see much chalkboard writing in the days ahead.

I also painted the shelf I discovered in the shed. It now has a home just above the sewing machine table. (Why I didn’t take a photo of it before I hung it, I’ll never know.) Because this little area is a niche under the skylight and can be dark, I had to fiddle a bit in Picnik.

Excuse the cord. Now I have a place to put stuff that used to clutter up the table. Another view:

Now, if only I could find an attractive version of the lamp on the left. Any ideas or recommendations?

This morning I spied this little one in our back yard. (I also put her on my photo blog.)

She was looking at me through the kitchen window. Look at those eyes. This is why I am a vegetarian. This is why I am against hunting. And though that may not be popular, it is a very big part of me. I’m proud of it.

And it’s my birthday this weekend. I’m celebrating me.

Happy Birthday!!!!! I hope you have a wonderful celebration!
Your chalk board looks great. I would have loved having something besides chalk to write with when I had a chalkboard in my classroom. Real chalk made my hands itch!!!!

Your shelf looks right at home.

We haven’t been seeing the deer that used to live in our woods. We think that some neighbors have venison in their freezers. It makes me so sad.

I am oh-so-jealous right now! Should friends be jealous of friends? No. Alright,so I won’t be but how I would LOVE to see that beauty looking at me through my kitchen window! Oh, wait – I don’t have one of those either… Okay, now I’m back to being jealous hee hee…

Your chalkboard and shelf look fantastic!!! I need to tap into some of your creativity!… Donna

    She is so pretty….
Your shelf turned out wonderful, looks great there in your corner! You could hang a light from the ceiling, it would free up some space…..too bad a chandelier wouldn’t give enough light, or would it? Have a Happy Birthday weekend!!!!

I adore your little multi-purpose area/loft. You are so creative and I love seeing all the changes you are always doing as you aquire new things.

The deer photo is wonderful. I love those little guys. We see lots of them at our house in Grass Valley.

Oh, by the way, we have a storm coming in and Nevada City is supose to get 4 inches of snow and Truckee (where my daughter lives) should get 24 inches!

    Hello Gorgeous!

First and most importantly, a very special Birthday wish to the fabulous Claudia! I truly adore you and your sweet and gentle soul! The beauty of your soul flows out in everything you do!

I love your studio and the shelf looks perfect. I too have a lamp similar to yours and I have it because it offers the best light and I can direct the light source easily. Mine is a brushed nickle and may blend in better with the soft pretty colors in your studio. I found mine at the Goodwill for a whopping $5.99.

What a cute deer with such sweet eyes…I can’t blame you for not eating meat…I still do but I think about not as I love animals so much and I would NEVER kill anything myself.

Wishing you a fabulous Birthday Weekend and I will be celebrating you too!

    xoxo

That shelf is perfect for that space. So cute. I need to get some of those markers….I got some from Hobby Blobby by Bristol, but they only came in red, white, blue and black. Would love to find some colors!

    Beautiful deer…..sigh.

I think the little lamp should be painted grey, white or pink and you should make a little hat that fits the top of it without getting in the way of the light, it is interesting just needs a little hat! Love the chalkboard and your space!

Your chalkboard is so pretty! I really like the trim and color. I’ve always wanted some of those chalk markers. I’ll have to check out Michaels.

Your furry friend is so beautiful. My parents have a family of deer that migrate through their yard on a daily basis. They hang out on the grass and look like lawn ornaments!

I love what you’ve done with the studio – that niche under the stairwell is just perfect. I’d have it in a heartbeat (but it wouldn’t look so pristine for long, lol)

The chalkboard is a great idea – I did one to hang over my computer and ended up getting rid because of the chalk dust. I didn’t realise you could get makers! Duh duh and double duh. Still, it’s an excuse to make a new (bigger) one.

    Happy Birthday, by the way.

Wow – there’s been a LOT going on at your little cottage, Claudia! Your craft area looks adorable!!!
I’ve never seen a deer like this one with the black around the ears. I’m with you – I don’t care for hunting one bit. We’ve been seeing more deer on our land in the past few weeks, and I’ve thought “Good! The deer can hang out on our land until hunting season is over!” :)
Wishing you a wonderful weekend & a very Happy Birthday!!!

I have told you before…I love that studio of yours. And just when I think it couldn’t be any cuter or more functional…you come up with another great idea/s! LOVE that shelf and what a great wait to keep you little treasures, but have them contained so they don’t clutter your sewing table. What a terrific idea about the chalk board and the chalk markers. Didn’t know about those!!

I LOVE your dress form….what a great BD gift. You have already shared a few of the awesome, creative possibilities you will be coming up with her!

Now, about that deer. Yes, those eyes are adorable, but we’ve had two relatives get into wrecks recently cuz of those little critters. I still think they’re gorgeous and enjoy seeing them when I do…just don’t want to see one jumping into my car! :)

    Have a wonderful weekend!! L,Dana

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
