Sun, At Least, For a Day

May 31, 2019 at 9:47 am by Claudia

Two of my favorite things: the French match striker and the weathered blue table. Contrasts in texture always tempt me to pull out the camera.

I decided not to go to the Country Living Fair. I’ve been there several times in the past. I don’t want to spend any money right now and the less temptation of that sort, the better. The parking area, which is on a field, will be completely muddy. I’ve been there when it’s muddy and it’s no fun slogging through it. If I had some money to burn, I might have gone.

But here is the primary reason: we’ve had nothing but rain and thunderstorms for the past few days and we’re getting them again on Saturday and Sunday. Don and I both hit the wall yesterday – we were pretty glum all day long. Normally, we can pull out a positive spin on the endless rain and gray skies and wind and flooding in our area, but we just couldn’t get there yesterday. And we’re not special – everyone is having a hard time.

Today it will be sunny and 78 degrees. I am going to stay right here and enjoy my property and my porch and I’m going to do my best to revel in it. I don’t want to go somewhere else. I want to be here, at home.

If you’re curious about the Fair, you can search the blog for past posts about it. I’m sure there are some new vendors, but most of the vendors remain the same from year to year. And it’s lovely, really. They do a great job. Anyway, the search option is on the side bar. Just type in Country Living Fair and you should be get an idea of what it’s like. I’m so glad they have good weather for the start of the Fair!

Just finished Merry Hall  this morning. Next up is Laughter on the Stairs, the second book in the Merry Hall  trilogy.

My heart goes out to those areas that have been devastated by tornadoes, ravaged by flood waters. My prayers are with you.

Happy Friday.

I surely understand your thoughts of staying put on one of the few nice days we are allowed this year. I’m sure the mud would be awful, but we, and I am sure everyone who has had these endless rains, also have the “bonus” of a plethora of mosquitoes. We also have sunshine today, and the temps are supposed to rise to near 90*. What the what???? Then, of course, rain and back to the 60’s tomorrow. Beyond words.

Hope you and Don enjoy every lovely moment on your porch today. Enjoy the sun, the birdsong, and any reading you may do. It seems we need to make little gatherings of any sunshine and store in our brains for days to come. Hopefully, this too, shall pass. Soon.

Oh, yes. I’ve already been bit! There will be way more than normal, which is not a good thing!

Don was out taking portraits today, but I sat out there for a couple of hours until the breeze kept blowing pollen my way!

Having so much rain and overcast skies can make one feel glum…enjoy the sunshine and warmer temps today, Claudia, before another onslaught. Our temps are on the rise, and inland will hit 90’s but I think it will only be in the 70’s where I live. Living so close to the Bay keeps the temps mild most of the time. I haven’t been sleeping well, which is unusual for me, and I got up early to drive my daughter to the BART station so she could go visit the classroom of students and the teacher with whom she student taught this past year. She said good-bye to them last week so today is a surprise for the students. They really love being around her. I think a nap is in order for early afternoon…

Sorry to hear you haven’t been sleeping well. I well know how frustrating that can be. And I hope you’re napping as I write this!

Over here it’s rained all week with cool temperatures! I’ve been twice (on a gifted ticket) to the British Country Living Fair as I have an (also gifted) subscription. The Summer one is usually held in Yorkshire in a huge marquee, I was a bit disappointed last year as there seemed to be a lot of stalls with imported products e.g. handbags and scarves made in China alongside the genuine craftmakers but I’m sure yours would be more authentic.

    Have a good weekend

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been there, but I think CL carefully chooses who can have a booth – I haven’t noticed any of that kind of merchandise in the past. Have a lovely weekend, Dee Dee.

I know I would be so tempted to buy if I went to a fair like that one. Great idea to enjoy your gardens while you can. I know I am. The weather can change on a dime. It’s going to be 85 and sunny here today. But don’t think summer is here just yet. It’s only going to be 70 and rainy tomorrow.

So…we’ll enjoy it while we can, and be thankful for today. Here’s to porch sitting! ;)

We actually need some rain here in Atlanta. At least the extreme heat has broken and we will be in the 80s for the foreseeable future, Enjoy your day. xo Laura

Don’t blame you a bit for staying put. Had lots of running around I wanted to do today but it’s sunny and 80 and I’m staying home too and get something done outside. The local paper had a headline recently something like “Is this the worst spring ever for this area?” I didn’t read the article but I vote YES! Still, I cannot imagine what those in the path of all those tornadoes are going through.

My answer is a resounding yes! But, you’re right. As frustrating as this rain has been, we haven’t had to deal with a tornado.

” I don’t want to go somewhere else. I want to be here, at home. ”
I’m glad to hear you say that!
because it’s pretty much how I feel every single day. and it’s so wonderful!
it’s the ability to simply be content. here’s to LIFE! and enjoying home!
we’ve had night after night of tornado sirens and warnings. and more to come.
apparently all next week. the meteorologists and storm trackers are worn out.
maybe that’s what makes the acquiring of beautiful ‘stuff’ seem rather pointless here.
there’s less to blow away. or blow around and hit me on the head anyway!
thank you for your kind thoughts. they’re appreciated. xo

Thank you, Tammy. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with tornado sirens every night. That can be incredibly stressful.

glad you could stay home today, enjoy nicer weather, sit on your porch and “just be”!

as much as i enjoy wandering around and looking for things at antique shows (which is a lot), i think i, too, would skip it if it rather than trudge around in mud. i do hope to get to a cl fair sometime.

hope you have a nice weekend ahead!

It’s not muddy where the booths are, but the parking area is another story!

Staying home and enjoying it is sometimes the best thing ever! We haven’t had any rain and need it so much. Just happy you had some sunshine. I had a great visit with my girls, it was fun to be all together again.

You are having our yesterday — sunny and 78! Yes, I would have bagged the Country Living and the mud. This rain is so gloomy, we grab the good days when we can!

The weather has been worse that terrible in the mid West and East Coast! I just sit and stare at the evening news with a hand over my mouth. Lots of prayers being said every day for everyone! Your porch is amazing and I love all the pots of flowers and plants and the lovely cushions and pillows. Have a great time with your camera Don!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
