Sunday

November 17, 2019 at 10:38 am by Claudia

Sunday morning; gray, cloudy and cold. A perfect day to stay indoors, do some chores, and read. I’m well into the book I am going to review on Wednesday and I’m finding it very compelling. I’ll be giving away a copy, something I love to do. I also started Strong Poison,  the first of the Peter Wimsey/Harriet Vane mysteries by Dorothy L. Sayers. I know I’m reading the Lord Peter Wimseys out of order, but it isn’t easy to obtain them all, so I’ll go back and read from the beginning when I’ve got a few more ducks in a row.

We visited a local framer yesterday to get a quote on framing our antique, or almost antique (1925,) lithograph that we purchased in Paris last year. We found it at the flea market in a permanent shop that deals in art, especially graphic art, like advertisements. Don and I are fans of graphics of all kinds, and we found an advertisement for coffee, coffee made by monks.

Don took this picture inside the art supply/framing shop. The print is more vivid than this picture indicates, but you can see it, at least. It basically translates to “No good coffee without composition of the monks.” It was an advertisement for Monk’s Coffee.

You can find this in modern reproductions in poster or canvas,  but this is one of a limited edition of original lithographs, mounted on linen, from 1925. The artist is René Vincent, who often used children in his illustrations.

We were enchanted with it at the time and even after it having been rolled up in a mailing tube for a year, find we’re still enchanted. It’s so lovely. The framer is terrific and has a great eye. We found a frame that we liked, and we’re using protective UV glass, which is also non-glare.

It should be ready in about two weeks.

Can’t wait to hang it in the living room!

Happy Sunday.

I loooove your poster! Signs, logos, illustrations, and graphics in general are my heart. Guess that’s why I spent over twenty years in that biz! Can’t wait to see the poster framed and hung!

Me too, that is a wonderful lithograph. I love graphic art, especially from that period of time. The quality of original lithographs is so beautiful, I am amazed at the work and the vivid color of past art. That is so smart to get UV glass too.

Yes. We have a lot of windows in the living room, and we don’t want it to fade. Thanks, Alice!

That’s a wonderful lithograph. It’s going to fit in so well with all your other pieces. Do you have a place all picked out already to hang it? Enjoy your day! ;)

Going to hang it above the monstera plant, where we currently have something else hanging. That way, we can see it from the sofa.

      Thanks, Donna!

Your lithograph is simply charming, Claudia. What an obvious addition to your wonderful cottage style! I lack wall space due to tall bookcases and windows. When I remodeled some years ago, I took out a non-retaining wall and lost even more wall space to photos and art.

Have an enjoyable day in. We are taking short sprint walks while the bread dough goes through it’s various proofing stages. From one dough, we intend to split it into three smaller loaves, one with olives, one with gruyère cheese, and one plain.

We don’t have a lot of wall space either! When this goes on the wall, something will have to come down and go into storage.

      The bread sounds delicious!

That lithograph is lovely. It is cloudy here after a morning of sunshine.

It’s got some great color in it; your new(er) green-cactus sofa will be a nice complement.

I don’t remember seeing a view of the pew from that angle before. Nice!

Your lithograph will look amazing framed. Looking forward to seeing it!

Melting and sunny here today. We slept in, watched football, worked outside making sure the drains were clear for all the water pouring off the roof, organized the garage, dug out the Christmas decorations for the veranda and are now back inside, freshly showered for dinner. An evening of writing and watching Shameless. Looking forward to a relaxing night. Hope yours i s as well.

You and Don have such a good eye for art! And finding treasures. Never seen anything like your coffee ad, it’s wonderful and the colors are perfect for your home. I had a couple of prints and an original watercolor framed this summer. First time I ever had professional framing (sale at Michael’s). They turned out beautifully! BUT were too heavy to hang on our walls! LOL. It is funny, but also I feel very sad that I can’t have them up. Someday I’ll get around to having someone come in and mollybolt them or something. For the time being neither my husband nor I can manage that–they are really heavy! Will look forward to having your lovely art come home and see where you find to put it! BTW, love your Paris plates.

What a totally fabulous print! Oh, that’s going to be wonderful. I’m wondering if the children’s book of music that I have with colorful illustrations (actually, I just have the illustrations; the book was long gone) is by him. The styles are very similar.

Enjoy the Sayers! I’ll see if I still have any of mine I can send your way.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
