Yet another crabapple discovered yesterday during mowing. A lovely little unexpected gift.

I moved things around in the shed yesterday, somehow managing to push the snowblower into a little corner so I could move the lawn mower over to the center of the back wall. I also swept the floor and moved the Adirondack chairs onto the porch.

Then we mowed the massive part of the front lawn (the lilac side is still okay.) Oh my heavens. Because we live on a little hill, the lawn slopes downward and the grass at the bottom of the lawn grows very long. Same thing with the Secret Garden. I think it must have been 8 or 9 inches long in some sections. Since the first mow is always the hardest, we worked very hard and I’m feeling it in my back. But today is a day of rest and I’ll feel better in a day or two.

The lawn looks so green. Gorgeous. Just in time, I might add, because I had no idea it was going to rain and storm last night and today. We had quite the thunderstorm last night, seemed to go on forever.

Rest in Peace to Barry Humphries, aka Dame Edna Everage. His brilliant creation – Dame Edna – was absolutely the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. No one made me laugh harder than Dame Edna/Humphries. Yesterday afternoon, after mowing, I spent time watching tons of old interviews on YouTube, laughing so hard I was crying. Then Don did the same. (Best prescription for back pain, by the way.)

Thank you for years of laughter and joy, Mr. Humphries. We will miss you and Dame Edna very, very much. There will never be another like her.

Hey, anyone with a (gmail) address: My responses to your comments are being sent back to me because they’ve added some bizarre security measure I can’t understand. And I’m not about succumb to yet another google requirement. So, check back because you know I answer comments.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Serendipity…. just finished reading your post, then looked up to Sunday Monday on the TV, and they were doing a memorial piece on Barry Humphries/ Dame Edna.

Your picture this morning is just beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

We haven’t mowed yet. Everything is green, but the cold weather is keeping the growth in line. In the Madison area they are pushing the “no mow May” message to give the pollinators a chance to get stronger. I don’t think we can go all of May, as I hate the thought of too many creepy crawly ~ verminty things in the tall grass. I do, however, have to curb myself from yelling at people in their yards digging up every dandelion or shooting each one with poison. ugh. It is some of the first food for those pollinators. Give bees a chance!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you can rest today after all of that hard mowing and cleaning you did yesterday. Take care.

We have to mow, it just gets too long too fast. But we have lots of dandelions all over the property and they all bounce back and we have honey bees living in the catalpa!

      Stay safe, Chris.

We are practicing no mow May already…lol. Hoping to hold off for another week at least to do our first mow. And with all the rain/snow our lawn is looking lumpy. I can’t go a whole month though…need some tidy in our lives. ;)

You were busy yesterday with al the mowing! For some reason I always love the sound of mowing… weird, but I think it just evokes childhood memories of lazy days with dad mowing! Hope your back is better.

Sad to hear of the passing of Barry Humphreys/Dame Edna…a very distinctive voice and personality.

Those crabapple photos are just beautiful.

Your thunderstorm sounded pretty spectacular! We don’t get those as strong here. The last time we had a huge thunderstorm was about 5 years ago this August that sadly started many destructive fires. Fortunately, we’ve had enough rain to pull us out of the drought for a while.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

I love the sound of a lawnmower, as well. And planes flying overhear in a summer sky.

      Thanks so much, Barrie.

      Stay safe.

Your crabapple is lovely….I miss ours. The first mow is usually difficult we’ve found. There’s always the hidden sticks, or pinecones you failed to find beforehand that make that horrible crunching sound as you find them with the mower. But, it’s always followed by the wonderful aroma of freshly mowed grass…unless someone is allergic…then you have my sympathies.

Still rather chilly here…so garden clean up has slowed to a crawl. Here’s hoping warm weather will soon return…I got spoiled with that brief 80 degree stint. Enjoy your day! ;)

Well, I am allergic, so thanks for your sympathy! But it sure looks pretty today!

We’re going to have much cooler temps starting today.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Hi, Claudia. I haven’t commented in quite a long time as I tried to limit my time online during the pandemic. I would check in and read tons of entries to catch up to what you and Don were up to. I’ve decided I missed being a part of your little community on a daily basis. And I just love springtime at the cottage so this is a good time to begin again.

The flowering crabapple and lilacs are beautiful. Amazed you’re already mowing! Take care of that back.
    K.

Slowly getting better. This morning it was very sore, but as the day has gone on, it’s loosened up.

      Stay safe, Elaine.

I’m literally jealous of all your green. We’re still very brown and dusty here. Only one day of rain in April so far. Appreciated our mild Winter but now we need rain so the farms can flourish!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
