Sunday Bits

June 10, 2012 at 9:11 am by Claudia

A gorgeous morning. Rain may fall at some point in the day. It probably will. (It’s been like this for days.) I have to mow today…and clean…and organize. We have guests coming to stay for a couple of days mid-week. Nothing like the prospect of visitors to sharpen your ‘house and yard vision.’

I was looking for something yesterday and found something else. Didn’t I post about that sort of discovery earlier in the week? I found the door knocker I used in our little rental cottage. It’s such a pretty acorn and oak leaf design. Our doors, however, are metal and I don’t want to mess with all that. Since we have no doorbell, I thought I’d attach it to one of the porch posts – right by the porch entrance.

Now instead of shouting ‘Hello?’ (which is fine, by the way) perhaps a visitor will eye that door knocker and give it a nice, sharp, metallic rap.

I’m afraid I succumbed again.

I made more of the Rhubarb Snacking Cake.

I couldn’t help it. Rhubarb is only in season for a short time. And this rhubarb was grown locally. I mean, it’s my civic duty, don’t you think?

If you love rhubarb, make this. We are in love with it. It’s fabulous right out of the oven, but I like it refrigerated as well.

Don had some when he got home late last night. I had a piece this morning. And I’ll have another shortly.

Happy Sunday.

I mowed yesterday. A push mower but boy was I feeling it last night. I hit the bed early. Yum can I have a slice of that with my coffee this morning?

I love the knocker. It’s the little things we add here and there that make our homes unique. Love it. That does look delish. I would love some mid-day with tea and then I could walk it off…and then have more.

    Good Morning, Claudia
I have a door knocker hanging on my entryway wall, as my doors are metal. I had to use it somehow (if only to look at) because it has a story behind it. I really like the oak leaf pattern of yours; it looks great on the post -useful too!

Such a pretty door knocker. It’s a shame to let it go to waste. It adds a certain homey touch to your verandah. As for the desert, of course it’s your civic duty. So have as much as you want because I’m sure you’ll work it out with all the mowing and weeding you do! Have a nice day!

What a sweet little door knocker. I can hear the rap, tap, tap now. And that pie looks deliciously and to have it add to your civic duty makes it all the sweeter. Patty

I love the little leaf knocker. And, that’s a good place for it. I have a similar knocker, a little garden trowel. It is hanging by my backdoor on the porch. That may be in my next post – I’ve been meaning to show the porch cuties.
Do you have the rhubarb/jello salad recipe. It is great.

I agree- There is nothing like company coming to see things with a fresh eye, is there? I love your door knocker to greet guests.

I copied over that rhubarb recipe. I have one for crisp but not a good one for snack cake. My son will LOVE this- xo Diana

Can you believe I’ve never had rhubarb. I think it’s your civic duty to send me some! Kidding. Love the knocker. My doorbell doesn’t work. No telling how many people ring it and think I’m not home. Just as well.

I love the door knocker. We didn’t have a doorbell installed when we built our house. We use a knocker instead. I have never had rhubarb. I may have to give. It a try. First I’ll have to look for some at the store.
    Blessings,
    Lorilee

I’m just now reading Sunday’s post; I love the door knocker!
What are the pink blooms in the first photo? They remind me of gomphrena, but not sure.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
