It’s Sunday morning and we’re heading over to Rick and Doug’s for some yummy French Toast. We’ve all been busy lately and haven’t seen each other in a while and they’re going on a trip next week, so today it is.
A couple of things from the kitchen:
This sign above the kitchen sink. It was hand made by someone I found through blogging. Darned if I can remember who now (if I find the name, I’ll add it here.) Another blogger that I followed had one made and I loved it, so I put in my request.
We really love it. We sometimes forget it’s there as it’s high above the sink.
And this sign:
Sorry, it’s a cloudy day today. You can see from these two photos how greatly the yellow on the kitchen walls can change during the course of a day.
When we moved in here, I knew I wanted a vintage sign for this section of the kitchen wall. It would have to be long and horizontal. We looked and looked but never found anything we could afford. Vintage signs – at least the large ones – are expensive. One day, while working in Heidi’s shop, I was looking through a catalogue and found this. Made to look vintage, but new. It may be a reproduction of an actual brand. Frankly, I’ve never bothered to look.
I decided to go for it. We’ve never regretted it. We really love it.
Okay. Got to get moving!
Happy Sunday.

Nothing wrong with new if it has the look and feel you want. And the price! I love them both.

Art and advertising used to be quite interchangeable. With all of the artless ads screaming for attention at present, thank goodness for nostalgia and lovely reproductions, like yours, to remind us how it used to be.

I agree. Thank you, Shanna!

FYI, the current issue of Country Living (p 64) has a cute photo of and collector information for Putz sheep.

Yes, someone else pointed that out to me, so I made sure to buy a copy. Thanks so much, Lynda!

I’m so enjoying the tour of your art. Some of it I haven’t seen before and many pieces I haven’t heard the stories of. The Mockingbird Hill Sign is such a wonderful piece. I like how you and Don wait for just the right thing to bring your vision to life. Was thinking of you when I came downstairs to make my tea this morning. Our kitchen window overlooks the driveway which is mostly cleared of trees and gives a nice slice of sky in the dawn direction. The most gorgeous patch of hot pink was just peeping up over the horizon and as I watched it spread out across the hills and trees so that it resembled a forest of pink-leaved trees. I sure wished I had your photography talent so that I could capture it. It was a good reminder of what a pretty place we live in. I often miss the ocean and Southern California so deeply that I overlook the beauties of the New England river valley that is my home now. Your photos in all seasons also highlight the beauty of the land with seasons. Hope your week gets off to a good start. I really will find out the name of the Irish book I mentioned. It’s worth a read.

Slow decorating is my thing. Partly because of budget, but mostly because we want everything to resonate with us.
That sunrise sounds gorgeous, Nora. I miss California, too – especially at this time of year – but it’s good to remind ourselves that we live in a beautiful place in its own right. Thanks, Nora.
