Sunday Morning

May 20, 2018 at 9:22 am by Claudia

The sun is trying to make an appearance after yesterday’s all-day-long rain. I’m hoping it meets with success. We could use some sun around here, if only to dry up the soggy grass.

I’m having a slow morning, but there are chores that need doing; cleaning bathrooms, washing sheets. That will keep me busy until Don arrives later this evening.

Yay!

Meanwhile, here are some photos I took on Friday.

The forget-me-nots that I planted in the memorial garden from seed a couple of years ago have really taken off this year. And when I say ‘taken off’ I mean that they are now on the other side of the fence as well.

They’re sturdy and dependable.

The chokecherry is back at the base of the maple.

The lavender is budding.

It’s so green everywhere!

The morning glory, zinnia and moonflower seeds sprouted very quickly this year.

I think Don will get at least one sunny day while he’s here. Tuesday looks questionable. Fingers crossed!

Happy Sunday.

Have a great time with Don home! I do hope you have nice weather.
I read that Escape to Margaritaville will be going on the road! Will Don be going or will that be a totally different cast? Inquiring minds!

Usually, it’s an a different cast. It depends. Don, of course, would probably jump at the chance to tour. Thanks, Debbie.

Wondering if your friends, Doug and Rick, would let you post pictures of their garden? Not to intrude on their privacy of course. On the road for Margaritaville sounds great. Exciting times for Don. Great flower garden pictures. 🌻

Probably not yet. The landscape designer took a lot out, moved things around. So plants are just starting out.

Have a nice visit with Don. Love forget-me-nots! Mine haven’t even yawned yet, but every year like clockwork we have a carpet of blue around here because of them. Can’t wait until that happens. For now, just drizzle, bread baking and pot roast to keep cozy.

It’s cloudy and humid here today. But I did get to sit on the porch for a while!

We are having a cold rainy day here. I’m glad I got most of the planting done yesterday. I’m curious about your lavender..mine didn’t come back. After doing some research…I was thinking maybe mine weren’t in a protected area, and may have been killed off by our winter. Are yours protected?

I’m sure you are looking forward to your time with Don. Hope the weather clears so you two can enjoy some porch time! ;)

The lavender in the pot is newly planted. But my other batch of lavender is in the raised bed right outside the kitchen door. Not necessarily protected, though up against a wall. Might that make a difference?

From what I read…evidently, yes. Mine was out on the open..it was beautiful…very showy. Actually, I lost quite a few of my newly planted perennials over the winter. Guess, placement is everything! ;)

Well, I didn’t plant them there because I knew better. I just plopped them in the planter because of the direction of the sun.

Hey, Donnamae! I lost quite a few perennials over this winter, too. And they were ones that I have had for many years. I am wondering if it was this lousy winter we went through. I don’t know how else to explain it. My daughter works w/ a woman who is also a Master Gardener who lost her lavender, also. Since we are all within about a 35 mile radius I am wondering if it was the weather, and not us.

Everything looks so green! Enjoy your time with Don. I think I’ll have Tiger for the day tomorrow. It’s been awhile since he and I hung out just the two of us. He is out of school but Mom is still working so he is staying with some friends each day but I get Monday!!

I bet Don is beyond excited having extended time with you and MHC coming up!! How precious the hours will be. I’m sure the growth in the plants and trees is magnified 10 fold when he has been away like this.

We have a 48* morning here today. This weather is just crazy!! Almost turned the heat on, but put some socks on and a sweatshirt. Just the other day it was near 80* and humid. At least the night temps aren’t going much lower than 45* or so.

I hope the minutes fly by today until you pick Don up and have him home again!! ♡ Enjoy!!

I really love plants with tiny flowers which includes Forget-me-Nots….they are so precious and their name reminds me to think of those who were special in my life but have passed on…As Dottie mentioned above…I have been wondering if Rick and Doug would let you take pictures of their gardens when they are finished to share with us…I also am not being nosy but I just love seeing peoples gardens as most of us here do…I think very highly of them as they are such good friends to you…I wouldn’t think any differently if they said no….Have a wonderful long visit with that Broadway star you like so much…lol

That’s exactly why I planted them.

Rick and Doug have a landscaper reworking everything. Right now, the plants are very small. Maybe later in the season?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
