Sunday Morning

August 14, 2022 at 8:53 am by Claudia

I’ve been engaged in prep work for the two shows I’m coaching. Tomorrow, I start working with Jim and Tuesday is the first day of rehearsal for Jane Eyre. I’ll be watching the read-through via zoom and, later in the day, I’ll work for three hours with some of the actors. Wednesday will be another day of coaching.

Some husband news: Don has revamped his personal music site. Here’s the link. He has listed only four of his songs; the ones he thinks are some of his best. If you’re at all interested, give them a listen. They’re on sale for 99 cents/each.

We watched 13 Lives  last night. Stunningly powerful. It’s directed by Ron Howard and is the true story of the rescue of 12 kids on a Thai soccer team and their coach. They were deep within a cave when monsoons came, flooded the cave, and cut them off. The story of the massive rescue effort, the thousands of volunteers who aided in the rescue, and the British divers and Thai Navy Seals who undertook a rescue that didn’t have a hope in hell is riveting. Brilliantly directed by Howard. Brilliant cinematography. An international cast led by Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell.

It’s on Amazon Prime. I cannot recommend it enough. I remember the rescue, but had absolutely no idea about the risky chance they took to get those boys out. We stayed up too late watching it, but it was worth it. I’m still thinking about it today.

I started a new puzzle, my reward for finishing my deductions and clearing the kitchen table!

The light is changing. Autumn is coming. I have mixed feelings about that, but I can’t stop it.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

great photo … lovely and loving home, pretty flowers, beautiful light and a peak of that cool old buffet/ kitchen island. :)

glad for you that some work has arrived (coaching) and other work is done (taxes).
and there’s a puzzle on the table for you, too.

thanks for the link to don’s website. will check it out.

need to get a few things done here today, then take a walk before (online) church and have lunch with members of my family.

hope you all have a nice day and stay safe.

Thanks for the recommendation of 13 Lives. I was apprehensive about seeing it because it was so painful to watch on the news while it was happening.
Good luck with your coaching work!

Doug and I watched 13 Lives a few nights ago. Riveting. Those poor boys and family. Knowing the outcome did not diminish the nerve-wracking drama. Acting was great on all fronts. I am claustrophobic and the darkness, dark water and confined spaces would have done me in. Hope all goes well with coaching and will check out Dons music. Enjoy the coolness of the next few days but bittersweet because of the end of summer. Wish I could bottle it up and pull it out in the bleakness of winter. Went for a ride to Sag Harbor and spent the day in a small bookstore and bought some vintage postcards but stayed off the beaten track. Too many “tourists”. Now to weed Wack the backyard. Have a good week.

I am also claustrophobic. I had to look away several times! They would have had to knock me out.

      Stay safe, Maria.

dear Claudia/Don — glad to hear from you– beautiful pix of your home and gardens — here, right now, everything is looking ‘tired’ — no new blooms, just waiting for fall — the really hot temps did no favors to flowers/trees/grass — everything looks like it is done for the season. early in the spring it was lovely but not now — I am s o o o ready for a new season. our only gson moves into college dorm tomorrow (can’t believe it), so he will be starting a new chapter — he is very excited and happy. we are hoping all goes well for him — he’s such a good kid (or young man) AND he is gonna only be 20 miles from Nannie and Pappaw !!! expecting to see more of him than ever before — he is so special to us. hope you all work hard this week — you should feel really good to be finished w/taxes, it is total aggravation to me!! stay safe/healthy

Our gardens are losing steam far earlier than normal. We have had maybe a 1/4 inch of rain over the past month? And none in the forecast.

Good luck to your grandson, Linda!

      Stay safe.

Well, you’re becoming an even-busier gal these next few days, Claudia.

Interesting that you can feel a change in the light/atmosphere with a sign of coming autumn. I’m usually attuned to it, but there’s not a hint here; I just checked the thermometer at 12:45pm PST and we’re in the usual 90s. We haven’t had the big swings in temps this summer, like up to 105 degrees and then back to high 80s (or something like that); instead, we just never get out of the daytime-90s, for more weeks now than I can count. And they want us (power company) to keep the thermostat up-up indoors which means the house is uncomfortable, ‘way too warm for me, especially between 4pm-9pm when we’re supposed to use the least amount of electricity (or we get penalized; our rate plan), yet outdoors is oppressive, so I just hope and pray we can get out of this soon and indeed start feeling anything other than hot summer in Southern Calif. I guess my only sign is that the maple tree in my yard is beginning to fade. And I have a succulent (the thing is so old; 25 years old in fact; planted in a large galvanized-metal tub) which is African in origin, I don’t know what the name or species is anymore, and it always blooms with red-orange flowers in late Aug/early Sept, so it’s on cue and about to bust out. My poor roses have just given up in the heat. The geraniums aren’t happy either.

We’re all in the same boat. Our lawn is dead. My plants are dying. We have no rain on the horizon. I just spent hours trying to give the gardens a little watering by hand, but we have a well, so we really do have to watch how much water we use.

      Stay safe.

I watched the movie Thirteen Lives last week and have been telling everyone to watch it. Amazing. Riveting. Ron Howard is such a brilliant director. I am like you in remembering the event but having no clue how incredible the rescue was. I will watch this one again it moved me so much.

We had clouds yesterday and today w a high yesterday of 71* and 67* today. Craziness!!!! Yes, the light is changing. I think they said tomorrow night (for us) is the last day the sun will set at 8PM. Earlier and earlier going forward. Inevitable, I guess!

Are you primarily working/ coaching from home on these 2 jobs, or do you go in for some rehearsals? Busy times! Take care.

Beginning coaching is via zoom. With both shows, I’ll travel to either Rochester or NYC for a run-through and a preview performance.

      Stay safe, Chris.

I remember the rescue but had no idea they made a movie about it. And Ron Howard, too. I guess I’ve been living under a rock for far too long!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
