Mystery Solved

January 29, 2016 at 9:25 am by Claudia

As to the mystery item….where did we leave off?

Ah yes. I ordered it online and drove to another Target location to pick it up. But first, some back story. Last week, when I was back home, I read a post on a favorite blog, Call of the Small, about a child’s dollhouse she had picked up at Target. Call of the Small is one of several miniaturists who love the midcentury modern look in miniatures and dollhouses, and it’s hard to find dollhouses that have that look because most of them are more traditional in design.

This particular dollhouse was $49, and it was part of a line called Our Generation, the Lori 6″ dollhouse – Loft to Love. The 6″ notation refers to the doll size. Dolls for dollhouses are not something I am into. But the house itself looked to me like a great roombox (which just got auto corrected to rhumba!) and a fun way to play with the midcentury modern look – a look I’m not at all interested in for my real home, but one I’ve really come to love in miniatures.

I was going to stop at our local Target on my way back to Hartford, but I didn’t. Thus began my Hartford-area search. And now I have it.

Here’s a glimpse of the outside. The door is plastic and huge (probably for the dolls) but it can work. Green felt top for a roof garden.

Here’s the inside:

1-29 roombox1

You can see the loft and a battery operated yellow light, which I’ll probably remove at some point. I’m in love with the tall windows. Since this was designed as a kid’s toy, plastic furniture sets are available for the rooms, though there were none available at the Target store I went to. It comes with a kitchen.

1-29 roomboxwithkitchen

It’s okay, but it’s plastic. It takes up too much of the main space. And it’s a little bigger than 1:12 – maybe 1:10? I’m not sure. I think I’ll be ‘redesigning’ the kitchen.

1-29 roombox2

1-29 roombox3

I think it’s really cool.

I brought a couple of pieces back with me, just to play a bit. But not enough to truly play, darn it!

1-29 roombox4

Such a neat space and so full of possibilities. After all, though I have midcentury modern in the Top Secret Project, it is for Don. So I can’t really play with it after it’s finished. I have to be a good girl and leave it alone.

Reader Bridget solved the mystery and I was shocked and delighted that she did! Good for you, Bridget. I left one clue in yesterday’s comments and replies: miniatures. That, coupled with the fact that I was looking for the item at Target, was apparently enough for Bridget. Bravo!

It’s available online here, if you’re at all interested. Target: once again I am referring readers to your site.

Ahem. Hint: Loveseat.

The Target I went to yesterday had about three of these left. I think they’re quickly going out of stock because the one I visited the other day had none on the shelves. And none of the Targets had the accessories, but since I wasn’t interested in them, it was fine. In other words, they’re pretty picked over, due, I’m sure, to it being post-Christmas.

So I have added a little dollhouse to the temporary digs. I wish there was a miniatures shop nearby but there isn’t. Sigh.

And I do have to work. Right?

Happy Friday.

Left To My Own Devices

January 28, 2016 at 7:52 am by Claudia

Okay. Yesterday, I slept in. Today I woke up at 4:30 am and could not get back to sleep.

What’s wrong with this picture?

Welcome to my world, my friends. Welcome.

I didn’t make it to the museum yesterday because I went off on a wild goose chase for something I wanted at Target. They didn’t have it. Which led to calling other Targets, which led to looking online (via my iPhone) for the link which came up as ‘No longer available.’ Which put me in a tizzy as I questioned the Target employee on the phone as to why it had seemingly been dropped from the stocklist. (Nicely, of course.) Which led to me leaving Target with a bag full of paper towels and a scented candle and then stopping at Barnes & Noble and buying an issue of Where Women Create (which I never do) and upon reading it, immediately regretting shelling out the money for it. Lovely photos, for the most part, but for me, there was nothing of any real substance in the end. Or at least, not enough substance to warrant the over $15.00 price tag. Those magazines are pricey.

I came back to the apartment and tried one more time to find the mysteriously missing item I wanted at Target. Much to my surprise, it popped up as available. What the heck??  So I ordered it online for pickup at yet another Hartford area Target, which I will drive to today. (You’ll find out more tomorrow.)

“Ummm….Claudia?” you’re saying, “Aren’t you supposed to be working on Romeo and Juliet?”

Yes. But they didn’t need me yesterday and they don’t need me today. But they will need me Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, which will be a relief. Being left to my own devices…well, the pitfalls of that situation are obvious.

I saw a loveseat at Target that would fit in the shared office space back at the cottage (where space is indeed at a premium) beautifully.

I sat in it and it’s fairly firm. Better than squishy, I think.

The price isn’t bad. Target…I write about you a lot. Wouldn’t this make a great gift for a blogger? I’d write about it and take pictures of it and show it off in my new shared office space. My husband could sit on it and play his guitar. I could sit on it and read. We would really like it. We’d add some colorful throw pillows and it would look fabulous!

In fact, Target, I’ll be talking about you again tomorrow when I blog about that mystery item that I’m picking up today. See what I mean? How about it?

I don’t think this shameless pleading will work.

Happy Thursday.

Having Fun Saving With Target’s New Cartwheel App

January 30, 2014 at 9:07 am by Claudia

Like many of you, I love to shop at Target. In fact, I just bought the headboard for my new California King bed, as well as sheets for that bed at Target.com. So when BlogHer asked me if I would try out Target’s new Cartwheel App, I immediately said yes.

Cartwheel is an app that you can use on your desktop, tablet, mobile web, iPhone or Droid. Cartwheel lists over 700 offers, or coupons, at any given time, with new offers every day. You choose items you are interested in purchasing, add them to your Cartwheel, present your personal barcode to the cashier and your savings are added at checkout.

How easy is it to use? Very. You can sign up through Facebook or through your email account. Since I already had an account at Target.com, I used my sign in information to access Cartwheel. Then I proceeded to look at all the available offers and checked the ones I wanted to add to my cart. I printed out my list from my computer, which also included my personal barcode.

I also downloaded the Cartwheel App for my iPhone. You can do the same thing I did online on your phone or tablet, using the barcode on your phone or tablet app at checkout. You can also use your phone app to scan any barcode in the store to see if there is a Cartwheel offer for that item. Pretty neat.

After printing out my list, I headed to my local Target. See how the list includes a picture of the item, the discount and when that discount expires? Some items are limited to a quantity of 4 per offer, while other can be used as many times as you wish until the offer expires. If there are limits, you will see that information on your list. You can’t see it but just to the right at the top of the Cartwheel List is my barcode.

You can also use your Cartwheel with any other Target discounts or coupons, manufacturer’s coupons and your REDcard discount. So the savings can really add up.

I grabbed a cart, looked for the items on the list, decided what I wanted to buy and headed toward the checkout.

cartwheelcart

What did I buy? Floor cloths, trash bags, bleach, cotton balls and a 5 lb. box of Clementine oranges. (Mmmm! I love Clementines!) I had to add the Peet’s French Roast Coffee, though it wasn’t on the Cartwheel list. Peet’s is my favorite and Target carries it. That makes me happy.

I trotted off to the checkout and the cashier scanned my barcode. Instant savings.

It couldn’t have been easier. There weren’t any big ticket items in my cart, but I easily saved a couple of dollars on these five household basics. But the list of Cartwheel offers covers every department in the store. Today there were savings on televisions, clothing, bedding, furniture, you name it. I’m thinking that this new app will come in very handy. It’s so easy to access Cartwheel, check out the daily or weekly deals, and then head to the store with your barcode and list.

I am someone who never remembers to clip coupons, try as I might. So this app is made for me. It makes it very easy for me to seek out savings on essentials.

By the way, Cartwheel also has something called Badges. When you start out on Cartwheel you have 10 spots available on your list. As you earn savings with Cartwheel, you can earn badges that reward you with more spots, increasing the amount of items you can have on your list. I earned another spot just by using Cartwheel for the first time at my local Target.

I’m sold on it. It’s simple, easily accessible and it saves me money. A win-win.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
