I’m going to keep this short today as I don’t really have much to share except my rage at what was done to Shaye Moss and her mother, Ruby Freeman, by Rudy Giuliani and Trump. These good and patriotic Americans were slandered by the man who should have been protecting them. It’s mob behavior, of course, because Trump is first and foremost a thug with a lifetime of ties to the Mob. His mentor was Roy Cohn, for heaven’s sake.
These two women were subject to slanderous accusations and death threats, simply because they did their jobs. Because Trump/Giuliani concocted a bogus scenario and were happy to throw them under the bus. And the Republicans who testified were also subject to death threats.
Yesterday’s hearing was riveting. All of the hearings have been riveting.
Added to this, the news that armed police stood in that school in Uvalde and waited to get a door unlocked that was never locked while children and teachers were slaughtered. The powers-that-be are attempting a cover-up. But it’s not working. Innocent lives lost because the police did nothing.
It’s too much, isn’t it?
So that’s what yesterday was about: the hearings.
In the meantime, I finished the Mick Herron book, Real Tigers, and am about to start another Herron – Spook Street. I love his writing which is nothing short of superb.
An off-and-on rainy day today and tomorrow.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

I was able to catch up on the hearings last night and my heart broke. I live in GA and remember the pressure that was put on officials and workers to change the vote. HE just didn’t think he could lose this red state but HE did!! Innocent citizens doing their jobs pushed out of their home by threats and scared to even be in public now. I really have no words. I am so very glad this is coming out. It should be mandatory watching! Thank you for always being so honest and sharing your thoughts Claudia!!
Claudia says
You are most welcome, my friend. Glad you got a chance to see yesterday’s hearing.
Stay safe and feel better.

last night i saw a replay of shaye moss testifying, also a teeny bit of what her mother said … heartbreaking what they’ve had to deal with for merely doing their jobs, doing the right thing. where and how will this awful mess end? what will make a difference for the better, for the future?
about uvalde … and the police had weapons, some bulletproof shields … awful for those children, their teachers and families to bear that, too.
sad and scary times we live in …
on a brighter note, glad you have some good books, gardening, rain and time (to enjoy them) to look forward to.
hope you all have a nice day and stay safe .
kathy
Claudia says
Very scary times, Kathy. I try to remain hopeful, but I’m afraid that I’m failing at the moment.
Stay safe!
kathy in iowa says
there is so much awful stuff going on in the world, but i also know that there are lots of beautiful, wonderful things all around us, more good than bad in the world and things will get better. it’s not always easy or quick or fun, but we keep going and trying! and, speaking for myself, i keep praying!

Kay in SE WI says
Besides the heartbreaking testimony of Ms. Moss and her mother, the thing that got to me yesterday was all the video of crowds of people standing outside people’s houses yelling awful things because they believe everything they see and hear on right wing media. I find it shocking how people today are still so quick to engage in mob-like behavior. Makes me think we haven’t really evolved all that much as a species. Or maybe social media has just made America more ignorant and meaner.
It has cooled down considerably and I’m going to work outside today and try to think positive thoughts about life!
Take care,
K.
Claudia says
Both, I think.
Thanks, Kay!
Stay safe.
Janet says
I worked as a election worker for years. My husband and I both worked before Covid but haven’t because my husband doesn’t think it’s safe. I have wanted to work but haven’t. Listening to the hearings I told him this is why we need to work! Those poor traumatized women. I understand what they were doing and have done the same thing. I often tell people everyone should work Election Day at least once to understand what happens before and after you cast your ballot. So upsetting!
Janet
Claudia says
I think you’re right. Ignorance and the automatic acceptance of the conspiracy theories spewing out of Giuilani’s mouth were an attack on the hard work done by our elections workers. Heartbreaking.
Stay safe, Janet.
Deb in Phoenix says
All I have to say is those hearings are beyond anything I could imagine would happen in our country. Those poor women who are living in fear everyday because of OUR president! How much more we don’t know about. It will come out in the next hearings. I believe Adam Kinzinger is doing the next hearing and now he and his family are getting death threats, with a baby!
Too much. Take care!
Claudia says
And now Eric Swalwell has received voice mail threats to his family.
Despicable.
Stay safe, Deb.
Barrie says
I echo all the comments regarding Shaye Moss and her mother! It was so emotional listening to them, and to know that our leader was making up horrible lies targeting these good and decent people! There are so many people being targeted in appalling ways! I worked at an election once…a huge time commitment and a place where attention to detail is vital. But everyone working there took that position seriously! I’m glad I had that experience.
Well, enjoy your reading today!
Claudia says
From the man who should be above reproach. He will never be that, of course. He’s vile.
Stay safe, Barrie.

Don’t even start me. Heartbreaking and rage inducing.

Indeed.

dear Claudia/Don — still not recovered from yesterday’s hearings — one very significant item I heard from Carl Bernstein “the major difference between Nixon and tRump was that Nixon did not want the shame/humilation and tRump does not care” — trump believes he is untouchable by any law, federal or state. sure hope somewhere along the way, a law will stick and he will be convicted — I want to live long enough to see him in jail. so sorry re: ‘Shaye and family’ such a nightmare for her/family — is there still an active Witness Protection Program?? I feel they REALLY need protection, now and for a long time to come. Re: Texas massacre — how do these officers live w/themselves?? this entire mess makes my blood boil — in fact, govt in Texas pretty much makes me very angry — maybe they should secede from the union, be totally on their own — might make some of their politicians happy. so many things wrong, hard to know where to look for resolutions. Do not envy Pres Biden, bless his heart. stay safe, healthy
Claudia says
I do not envy him either.
I look forward to seeing the perp walk when Trump is arrested. I keep visualizing that.
Stay safe, Linda.
Linda says
Hi !
You mentioned your sister’s blog and I started to follow it. I like it a lot!
Thanks!

Good!
Stay safe, Linda.

In my mind, I equate what happened to those 2 dedicated hard working women to the George Floyd tragedy. I don’t understand why The Idiot & his Posse aren’t being prosecuted following all the evidence we were shown yesterday. Yes, they are alive today, but not living the life which they deserve. There is something so terribly wrong with this, & again, nothing sticks to someone with an orange face. We are all ashamed, & they just roll along to the next lives they can ruin. I don’t understand.
Claudia says
I have to believe he will be prosecuted. But putting together a massive, massive case like this one takes time. They have only one shot at it and they cannot make a mistake. The sheer amount of evidence, testimony, and interviews that the DOJ has gathered and will continue to gather in order to prosecute an ex-President is mind boggling. Yes, I want justice, but I also understand that it takes time.
Stay safe, Chris.

Claudia,
Your orange rose is so beautiful. Years ago, I bought a rose bush with roses a similar color. The name of the rose bush is called “Lucille Ball.” It is old and woody now but I still get a few roses each year.
Still waiting for “the girls”. Was notified today they have made it to southern Calif. (I live in northern Calif) so now am really excited.
Claudia says
Yay! They’re almost home!
Stay safe, Linda.

I was and still am very disturbed after yesterday’s hearings. Hearing Lady Ruby’s testimony and that of Shaye Moss was incredible. Utterly disturbing I would hope, to anyone with a heart. God bless them both! ;)
Claudia says
Indeed. Heartbreaking.
Stay safe, Donnamae.

We’ve had this monsoon-y storm brewing and I think it’s what knocked out my satellite dish on Tues such that my auto-record for the hearings got zapped. I was SO glad you or someone had mentioned, I think it was you Claudia, that c-span would carry them; so, yes, I could record them later in the day and I’ll be watching them/squeezing them in … somehow … in readiness for what’s the next round in about 8 hrs(?) from now. Don’t want to miss anything; need to catch up. (I am behind on all my news-watching including more tragedy unfolding out of Uvalde. And Ukraine. We’re in such turmoil around the world and here at home.)
But, yeah, wow, for Southern Calif, parched and dry and in drought, to get RAIN on Weds? Definitely something to find happiness in, both the small and large moments. Rain here is the stuff of miracles, no lie! And it momentarily cooled our heatwave; fresh air!!! (Still almost 90 degrees by late afternoon and mega-humid, but at least the morning was wonderful.) We got third of an inch rain-wise, and are grateful! Hasn’t rained in many months. Had a few downpours; was all gone by evening with the earth already dry, but it was great to have the dust off everything, including the dirty cars (we save water around here; water conservation by necessity); I loved the smell of that damp on dirt; so ‘clean’. (I threw open the windows and doors at 5am!) And of course the lightning and thunder, so unusual here, made for some excitement. (We got our dog’s new ThunderShirt in the nick of time; it seems to have helped the poor guy although we’d thought it to just be for fireworks, never dreaming we’d have thunder anytime soon.) And of all things, tonight as we head to midnight? I hear CRICKETS. Haven’t heard that delightful sound in a long, long, LONG time!
Claudia says
Hurrah for some rain! And crickets!
Stay safe, Vicki.

Fascinating that you like the Herron books – a friend is a great fan but his description didn’t enchant me – now I am motivated to try again because I frequently like the books you do. I have given up on the hearings – it just keeps gets worse but nothing surprises me except the stubborn belief in the face of evil among its adherents.

Claudia says
I am a huge fan of them.
You shouldn’t give up on the hearings. It’s essential that all of us listen to every word. They’re laying out a case against the former President of the United States.
Stay safe, Ceci.
