The Porch

September 3, 2025 at 8:43 am by Claudia

A little tour of the porch today. I took these photos this morning. You can see the autumn sunlight in some of the shots. It was cold out there!

The view of the seating area and the morning light coming through the trees.

You can see how much the calibrachoa has grown.

Facing in the other direction; the maple tree and a couple of the hanging plants, the picnic table and potted impatiens.

The impatiens are huge!

I’ve had this Boston fern for 8 years now. It overwinters upstairs in the office/studio, eventually looks bedraggled and dry, then it moves outside and recovers.

Most of these plants will hang on through October and into early November. The setup is basically the same every year. These plants work well with our climate, and the little microclimate on the porch.

Makes me happy.

I leave on Friday morning for New Jersey and I’ll come back home on Sunday. I’ll be back with you on Monday.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Your plants sure look lush and happy. I’m just trying to decide if I should bring some plants inside during winter or not.
    Wishing you safe travels, Claudia.

It’s a little haven. The light is changing, definitely autumnal light. Lovely.

Thanks for the tour of your front porch. It seems the perfect place not only to grow flowers, or read, but, also to relax and contemplate life. I would be out there all the time, and I wouldn’t get much else done.

Safe travels this weekend. Hope everything goes well for you. Enjoy your day! ;)

I love a nice porch and yours is especially so! I wish I had a porch but the houses in my development were built without them. There are houses in nearby developments that do have porches but hardly anyone uses them! I cat-sat a couple of months ago and my friend has a large front porch. It was so refreshing to sit and read there in the morning, supervising her cat who liked to lounge on the sunny front steps.

Safe drive to New Jersey and back, and fun (though probably very hectic) time on the job at the theater.

Love the pictures of your porch. Your plants are amazing! Looks like a wonderful place to sit. We left Phoenix yesterday to go up north to some cooler weather. We did it for Gracie, our Golden Retriever. We got some bad news the other day about her. She has liver cancer. We don’t know how much time we have left with her. Could be weeks or a month. So we wanted to get her out of the heat to enjoy some nice weather with her. She is loving laying out in the grass. Can’t do that in Phoenix now with the heat. Obviously we are devastated to get that news. Then that night my son came over to inform us his wife wants a divorce. They have given us our only grandchild, Greyson who is 10. When it rains it pours. We just have to take life a day at a time. It really sucks sometimes.

I’m so sorry about Gracie, Deb. It’s always so heartbreaking. And I’m sorry for your son.

Life really does suck at times.

      oh, deb …

i am sorry that you and your family are going through such sad, tough things.

may you all and gracie have more easy, quality time together (like your sweet trip up north) than might be predicted. if your son gets divorced, may it be as gentle as possible, too. and please take good care of yourself, always and especially now.

i will be praying for you all.

      sending hugs (if okay),
      kathy

Yoru first picture remindes me of a visite in Maryland about 15 years ago. It was about the same time of year when we sat on a porch surrounded by big trees. All the best! Regula

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
