Well, I said I would rest yesterday, but I didn’t. At least, not enough. I had to tackle the poison ivy that seems to be all over the place this year. And then I had to do some other pruning.
All of which involves my dang back.
Anyway, I’m glad I did it, but my allergies are now haywire and I have to rest my back, so today IS going to be a day of rest.
It’s another lovely sunny day – so appreciated after so many rainy days.
I roamed around the property with my telephoto lens and got some nice shots, which I’ll share with you this week. The following photo, though, was done very quickly with my iPhone so as not to stress out any robins. I had to carefully ease the phone between the climbing hydrangea branches and hope against hope I got something. One chance only.
You can see a portion of the third egg at the bottom of the photo. Either a baby is pecking at that egg or there’s some schmutz on top of it.
I love the beautiful color of robins’ eggs.
Since I’m taking it easy today, mom and dad will get a break and they won’t have to stress about my comings and goings on the property.
Very exciting! Though I’m sure we’ll miss out on babies leaving the nest. It’s too far from the house and frankly, the birds around here seem to have a sixth sense about the perfect time to leave without our knowledge. Then I get sad that I missed it all.
Tomorrow morning is Don’s appointment. He cannot wait to get that bandage off. What was once carefully wrapped is now rewrapped daily by Don or me and we’re not so good at it. Right now, Don is playing his ukelele. He taught himself a Gordon Lightfoot song this week – “Steel Rail Blues.” It sounds good!

Those robin eggs are so vibrant! What a beautiful color! And that nest looks perfect. It really is amazing how intuitive animals can be… survival! Enjoy your day of rest!
The nest was already there, and has been for a few years. But, these robins added material to it and made it their own.

My daughter got a terrible poison ivy rash that has taken quite a few days to go away. It was a tough way to learn that there is lots of poison ivy around her new home but now she knows to be more careful.
I am glad Don is getting his bandages off tomorrow and glad he is feeling well enough to play again!
Lovely blue robin’s eggs. A robin built a nest on our porch so we avoid using the front door so as not to alarm them. No babies yet, that we can see. Spring – a time of rebirth. Hope Don’s followup appointment goes well tomorrow. On PBS at 5:30 today there is an interview with Gordon Lightfoot on a 1/2 hour show called “Canada Files”. Hugs, Elaine

I’ve had it once or twice and it’s not fun. But I’m extremely careful and use special gloves and wear an old flannel shirt when I’m removing it. Also pruners that I only use for poison ivy.

yesterday marked one year of retirement for me. doesn’t seem possible. doesn’t feel like it. i am glad and grateful to have been able to retire before social security’s “full retirement age”. there is, of course, a financial penalty, but i chose/choose the blessing of “extra” time, especially with my family, and try to make the best of it all. a few days ago someone asked me if i’d like to go back to work. nope. a privileged and blessed nope.

Robin’s Egg is the prettiest shade of the colour blue. Well done for managing to take the photo. Glad to see that Don is improving daily and I am sure he will feel much better once his bandage has gone.
Spent yesterday watching the King’s Coronation, not because I am a huge fan of Charles but mainly because I do enjoy all the pomp and pageantry plus it was nice to invite my son and his partner, my brother and my next door neighbour who watched the previous Coronation as a child! We had afternoon tea and I decorated with Union Jack bunting.

Boy you are putting our paltry yardwork to shame. Today is seventies and sunny and finally we’re able to take down an evergreen the heavy snows did a number on this winter. We trimmed some of the other trees that needed attention and Joel, the pine tree murderer next door, said he’d called the village and we should put our cuttings in front of his house with his. I like him but I did tell him I will be mourning those three trees for a while.
How nice to be serenaded by Don while you rest up. I love it when our musician son brings his ukulele when he visits.

Ah, when I think of “robin’s-egg blue” it’s how I’ll describe the sky sometimes (although I’ve never seen a for-real robin’s egg like you, Claudia; gosh what an incredible shot you got!).
I felt that sadness when last year’s chickadees fledged without me. I hope you get a hint and are able to catch at least a bit. The photo is great and you’re right — that’ the best shade of blue.
