The Winter of Extremes

February 23, 2018 at 10:38 am by Claudia

A late start today. I was, along with millions, up late watching the Women’s Figure Skating and, unfortunately, woke up way too early this morning. BUT, I made myself get back in bed and I slept until 8:30! Hallelujah!

Then, as I was about to make my second cup of coffee and write this post, Don called via FaceTime. Another delay.

What a 24 hours! 71 degrees on Wednesday. Rain and sleet and snow on Thursday. It’s insane. Very, very strange winter weather this year. I call it The Winter of Extremes – and it’s been completely unpredictable.

And may I just say that despite the fact that February is the shortest month of the year, it seems to be moving at a snail’s pace? I keep expecting it to be the end of February and then I look at the calendar and see that it’s the 22nd or the 23rd. I’m ready for March, thank you very much.

Just thought I’d show you Don’s name on the CD for Escape to Margaritaville.

I’m chuffed.

I wrote yesterday about Don being recognized on the street and how fun it was. The reality is that’s it’s not a new thing for us. He is always being recognized for something or other, especially the amount of television work he’s done throughout his career. Some people still stop him and say they remember him on Three’s Company, and that was a long time ago. I’ve grown used to it, though it’s always a pleasure to see it happen. He was stopped on the streets of New Orleans many times. Of course, he’s rather distinctive these days with the grayish hair and beard and his over 6′ 4″ height.

But it was fun to see it happen for the first time in NYC for this Broadway show, right in front of his apartment building.

My monstera is getting a new leaf. They emerge in a tightly curled sort of appendage and then they slowly unfurl. Watching it happen is like having a front row seat for a nature documentary.

I don’t have much on the docket for today, I’m just going to hang out at the cottage and endeavor to resist sweets. I’m on a diet.

Happy Friday.

hooray for an easy day at home, including more sleep, plant-tending, facetime with don … enjoy!

how fun that must be for don and you to hold that cd in your hands and see his name on it, to hear his voice on the soundtrack … wonderful when all that hard work (both recent and over the years) pays off for a person. congratulations again!

    happy friday.

It is very exciting. It means a great deal to Don to be a part of the recording. Thanks, Kathy.

Wow! Three’s Company was a favorite of my kids’, way back when. I don’t think I remember you mentioning that one, ever. That guy of yours has been a part of so many great shows. Can’t wait to hear the soundtrack and to see the show!

Oh gosh, he was on SO many television shows! He was on Three’s Company twice and he loved working with John Ritter. Says he was the most generous of actors. He actually made sure that Don got more focus than him on certain laugh lines. He was a lovely, lovely man.

I’ve come across that in my reading over the years; unanimous appeal and likeability of John Ritter, gone far too soon.

Of course I was looking for him, but Don was easy to spot in that segment last week on CBS’ “Sunday Morning” show because he is indeed SO tall.

You two seem to both be famous, him in front of the camera and you behind the scenes.

It’s been a long February for me also. Tomorrow my daughter turns 36 ! How can that be??? We will have a fun ‘girls’ dinner with Sara, Scout, Mom and I. The boys will be gone to the races.

I love seeing Don’s name on the cast recording and it’s wonderful! Makes me want to dance. He is such a good actor and deserves all he has earned in this business. I keep forgetting to ask if this is his first time on Broadway?

Have fun at the birthday dinner!

No, he was on Broadway in the play “Take Me Out”, which was a Tony Winner that he was in before we moved to the cottage – when we were renting after we first arrived.

Don has had such an interesting career and lots of years to go I hope. How cool to be in the original Broadway Cast of Escape to Margaritaville! Of course you have had a pretty amazing career yourself!

WOW and his name is in the bigger font! So freaking exiting for you both. I think if you get tired of being recognized by your fans, it might be time to hang it up – they are the reason you are there after all, IMHO.

Exactly. It’s always a wonderful experience.

His name is in the bigger font because he’s a Principal (casting jargon.) That means he has a principal role in the production.

Oh, what amazing fun!! All of the hard work over the years that both have you have done and so nice to reap the rewards when they occur. I’m sure you are both treasuring every moment. Wonderful to look back over the years and see so many great experiences.

Enjoy your quiet day. It was a 2 hour late start for schools here today, but the ice is pretty much all melted away now. Going from the upper 20’s at night to the low 40’s during the day has created quite a daily mess. Have a great Friday!!

What a great sight to see Don’s name so prominent on the CD. Enjoy listening to the CD. We watched the women’s figure skating, too. All of the ladies are so talented. You have to admire their stamina and dedication.

I checked out Margaritaville on YouTube and found that Don was
in about 3 of the clips. In one they are rehearsing and he is singing into a
standing mic. If I knew how to do it I would send the link to you.
Really enjoyed it. It looks like a fun
    production and a happy group.

Went I want to find Don in a group picture I just look for the tallest person!…lol…When I first visited MHC and saw a picture of Don…I knew I had seen him before…I then figured out at that time he was in a commercial for an insurance company…He was also in I forget how many Law and Order shows which we we loved watching!…Now that I have “known” him for a while I can recall him being on other shows like Three’s Company…Don and John Ritter…what a great pair…Oh how I cried when John died…such a sweet and funny man…Anyhow, I believe Don has had a great career and deserves any recognition his is given…As for the crazy weather…we have a lot of streams, creeks and rivers around here and they are rising rather quickly and the rain keeps falling to melt the snow and raise the water…not so worried about the little stream that runs through my property but I have seen how high the river is and that is scary!…I think that I will spend the weekend at home and away from the water as we do have flood warnings in effect…Take of my friend!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
