There Are Times I Just Can’t Come Up With a Post Title

3-20 deer watching Scout

A deer looking at Scout (who’s in her mini corral.) Right after this, Scout became aware of the deer. They engaged in a stare-off. (This was shot through my kitchen door, so there’s some reflection bouncing off the deer and the tree.)

What a beautiful animal.

I was going to say that there’s much less snow on the ground – and there is – but on this first day of Spring we are supposed to get 3- 6 inches of snow. I’m calling this The Last Hurrah. My only comfort is in the fact that snow doesn’t stay on the ground for very long come March. The ground is warmer, the angle of the sun is higher. And the temp tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid-forties. Nevertheless, the whole thing is a bit daunting, wouldn’t you say?

Don, the saintly man to whom I am married, came along with me yesterday as I searched for jeans that fit my no longer angular and now curvy body. He helped me find various styles in my size and patiently waited for me to try them on and discard them. Eventually, I found a style by Lee that fit well. Huzzah! And then I found the same style in black. So I bought two pairs. There was a sale at Kohl’s so I got them at a very good price. Huzzah again! Note: I want to write the plural of pair as pair because that’s the way I was taught. But I hardly see that anymore. What to do?

Then we stopped at Target to pick up a couple of items.

I rewarded Don (and me) by agreeing to a stop at Five Guys. He got his burger (yes, he does eat meat now and then) and we shared some fries. As we were heading home, Don saw that Dairy Queen was open for the season and somehow we ended up with two chocolate shakes.

How did that happen?

And how did I end up having Five Guys fries and a chocolate shake for lunch?

I’m not sure, but it was awfully tasty – and slightly wicked.

3-20 lamp

This is the lamp that I had on my sewing table. It’s been moved to the den because I need a stronger light here. It’s the Ranarp Lamp from IKEA and my plan is to get another for the studio but since I’m not working on anything up there, there’s no hurry.

Today might be a good day to do some hand quilting as the snow falls.

For the last time.

I insist on it.

Happy Friday.

Hi Claudia! I am curious about the coaster under your mug in the last photo……I have noticed it in the past and am finally asking! Is the center hooked or? I love the “petals” that circle around the mug. Sweet! I am a hooker…there I have said it aloud…..of rugs and such of course and this little bit of fiber art has me inspired. Happy Spring!

Yes, Janet, it’s a hooked center. I got it at The New York Sheep and Wool Festival several years ago. I really love it – it’s a sunflower.

I am so happy you found jeans. I need to go back and buy another pair of jeans like the pair I got last week. They fit well, are comfortable and on sale (I hope they still are). Oh a reward of a milk shake is a great thing! I’m hoping this is your last snow also.

Claudia, great shot of the deer. I like your lamp too. It’s been a long winter there, you deserve a treat. :) It’s not something you do everyday. Our ground is showing here, it’s cloudy and cool. But I saw robins hopping around this morning and it makes me happy. Blessings for a fun weekend, xoxo, Susie

Okay shopping for jeans….let’s just say I would go rather lay out in traffic…..I found jeans in tall that I loved at Coldwater Creek…they were PERFECT…and yes now they are out of business. I did however buy 4 pair on the last sale before they went defunct. So I think I am set for life.

I hope it’s all over for us here in IL, but I doubt it…usually, Mother Nature has to have one last hurrah. Lee jeans fit my curvy body the best now, too. Sometimes, I don’t even write if I can’t think of a title, which I realize is a tad ridiculous! As for old man winter, I am now in denial. I have packed all winter items away. So, if it does get cold or snows again, you will see me in flip-flops with very purple toes!

My go-to jeans are Gloria Vanderbilt from Costco…cheap and available and fits. I’m so not picky says my girls. I had the jeans in almost every color, but then decided after years to give all of them away except black and blue. I’m also glad to be in one size again…I used to have three sizes in my wardrobe to accommodate the monthly water gain. My jeans wardrobe is really pared down now, which I prefer, a leaner meaner closet.

I hate to tell you that yesterday was warm enough for shorts. But today is cooler, “only” in the high 60’s…the radio announcer’s word, not mind.

“A Wicked Afternoon” ….. that is what I thought of for a title!! When wicked means fries and a shake….. too funny. We are supposed to be 57* today on this sunny, first day of Spring, and our daughter’s birthday! But a chance of snow showers on Sun/ Mon. I love the IDEA of Spring, but not a fan of the REALITY of it which usually means lots of days of disappointment ~ and mud. Hope the snow skips right over you!! Happy quilting.

The deer is beautiful and reminds me of a book I’ve read a number of times titled The Gift of The Deer by Helen Hoover. It’s about a couple who moved to the woods in an old cabin where they supported themselves and their natural lifestyle. It’s a true story though it’s quite old now. Glad you had a little time out yesterday and were able to find what you needed.

We all need our little treats now and then, that’s for sure. Personally, after this past Winter, I think everyone has earned a couple of extras, as the lawyers say, for “pain and emotional distress.” LOL. In my case, it would be either eggrolls or deep-dish white pizza – yum. And while I’m in no way a chocoholic, two or three times a year I just gotta get me a ‘Three Musketeers’ bar [no other candy bar will do]. Have a great weekend watching even more snow melt – and hopefully more deer too!

Claudia, if you lived closer, I would give you one of my OTT lights – they are the best for old(er) eyes – I can see the eye of a size 10 quilting needle and my black quilting thread on black fabric in the evening with this full-spectrum light, and my eyes don’t get so tired.
I love my hand-made leather thimble on the finger that pushes the needle, and it doesn’t slip as it would if it were metal. I just use a scrap of leather, with the suede on the outside, sew it by machine to fit my finger, and trim close to the stitching with scissors. Then, when it wears out, I can quickly make another. Costs nothing and has saved my finger, lo these many years.
(I’m buying jeans right now, too – never my favourite thing – I basically hate shopping.)
    Happy Spring!

I have an OTT light, Gail. It’s upstairs. But since I read here as well, I have to use a light that works for both. But maybe I’ll grab the OTT light and keep it on the floor for when I quilt. I’ve tried using something on my finger, but I seem to do better with it bare. Which means I have to have a darned callus!

I’m happy you found jeans. I have found that Not Your Daughter’s Jeans fit me very well. They’re pricey, but I wear jeans so much, it’s worth it to me. And now that I know my size, I can order the style I like online and have them delivered. I also wore Coldwater Creek jeans, and was sad when they closed. That’s when I found NYDJ.

Fries and a shake. Haven’t had that combo in a long time. Usually it’s either a shake or fries, and neither very often. I’d be fretting about the calories and the fat, and I applaud you for just going for it. I need to do that more often, too! I know I would have enjoyed it as much as you did.

Beautiful picture of that deer outside your window. I am happy for the deer that you aren’t a hunter.
