This and That

July 19, 2025 at 8:26 am by Claudia

A short post today.

I finished the book I was reading just in time as it’s due today. Did a whole lot of weed whacking that I hadn’t been able to get to during the heat wave. Don had a gig last night. Mama Catbird is still sitting on the nest. The groundhog ate some of my zinnias.

It’s incredibly beautiful out there this morning.

The phlox is in bloom. The phlox that was chomped on by the deer is also blooming or just about ready to bloom. The scent is heavenly. This is always the best time in the garden: phlox, coneflowers, bee balm, day lilies, rose of sharon, balloon flowers, brown-eyed susans – all in bloom. I’m going to take all of that in today.

Chloe trying out the chair.

Time for me to make our second cup of coffee. Enjoy your weekend, my friends.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

sounds good. except for someone chomping on the zinnias. but they have to eat, and you were able to see his cuteness, right? :) and might it have been henry? enjoy the flowers, their scents, some more coffee and the day! :)

hope don had fun at the gig. am sure those who got to hear him had fun!

arrived home from the nice dinner and visit in nebraska very late last night so by rights should still be asleep, but it’s been pouring down rain, complete with lightning and thunder, for about a half-hour so am enjoying that instead and very much. have things to do, but i think i will be spending today much like chloe is … on a chair, relaxing. might have a book handy, watch a movie or (most likely) take a nap.

hope you, don and everyone else have a nice weekend. stay safe.

Oh not Henry. It would be impossible for him to live this long. He left us many years ago. We miss him. Besides, Henry never got into trouble. He was a gentleman!

      Stay safe, Kathy.

It is a nice time in the garden…it’s the reward for all the pruning, weeding, and watering, that we gardeners get to enjoy. And….other’s, too. Yes, other animal visitors like to eat at the buffet…whatcha gonna do? As Kathy said…they have to eat, too.

I have 10 or so hydrangeas scattered around our city lot. All I believe are limelights, unless they were miss marked. I still have the tags. But, they don’t all bud at the same time. It must depend on their sun/shade location. Whatever the reason, I have continuous blooms throughout the summer. It’s become a deer buffet unless I stay on top of it, along with the hosta flowers. Always something.

Hope you have a relaxing weekend! ;)

Well, groundhogs love grass and we have plenty of it, so there’s that.

How nice to have continuous hydrangea blooms!

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Beautiful use of words to describe your yard. I can close my eyes and almost smell the phlox.

I like how you dress your young women. Cute yet with purpose.

I’m half way through the last Ruth Galloway book. I miss the characters already.

    Take Care,
    Kaye

Oh I remember that last book. I was so sad the series was over.

      Stay safe, Kaye.

Your yard must smell like heaven! The deer go for my hostas and sweet peas. It’s a trade off. I wouldn’t mind so much if they did it in the day when I could enjoy them but they work at night.

    Have a wonderful day.

Ii’m still hanging around here. I’m currently trying to set my body clock so that I sleep at night. At about 1 or so I got up, just for about 1/2 hour and went back to bed. I sleep so much. Mike thinks it’ll be a perfect day to lay on the hammock, but there is all that work to do! My dog still smells like a skunk. The cold storage room is a disaster. The fence was never painted, The garden is producing. And I yearn for space and solitude. Alone. Alone.
Your photos of the flowers today would win a prize at our stampede exhibition. Or at the college cultural centre. It is truly amazing. I hope you know what an amazing photographer you are! Among other gifts you have.
I’m sorry to say that I won’t miss Mike’s dad much. He was a little creepish. My friend feels the same way. She also has a story much like mine.
There is nothing we can say about war, I used to think the world would become peaceful and loving, eventually. I listened to John Lennon sing of it, and I believed it would happen. No

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
