This Winter Seems Like It’s Been Going On For a Year

January 23, 2026 at 9:23 am by Claudia

This puzzle is surprisingly difficult. I’m also distracted a lot lately, so I work on it sporadically.

Well, on top of the god-awful news we are dealing with on an hourly basis, we are a part of the huge storm that will be crossing the country dumping 12 – 18 inches of snow on Sunday and Monday. What the heck? The last two or three winters have been relatively mild. But winter is back with a vengeance. In addition to the snow, we will be dealing with single digit temperatures.

Yesterday, I did a lot of chores around the house, as well as outside. Sort of a whirlwind of activity. So was Don. He ran errands, bought groceries and salt for the driveway. Now, he’s going to our recycling center and buying a few more things that we need.

We are most definitely in the midst of storm prep.

I finished my 4th reading of A Gentleman in Moscow. It just gets better with each reading. One of yesterday’s errands was a trip to the library, where I picked up two books that I’d had on hold. First, Michael Connelly’s newest, The Proving Ground. I was waiting in the queue for 4 months. And Robert Macfarlane’s newest: Is a River Alive?  Macfarlane is one of my favorite nonfiction writers. He writes about nature.

We’re not quite battening down the hatches yet. That will be at the end of the day tomorrow.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

We are getting the cold, cold, cold but not too much snow. Schools are closed here today as the students will have online classes at home. I don’t need to go anywhere and so will read and maybe do some laundry.
Hope you and Don stay safe and cozy, Claudia.

Good Morning Claudia! Ditto and Ditto and Ditto…. we are expecting the storm too! Remember to check your fuel tank levels!!! I am so glad to be able to tuck in for “hibernation mode” when a storm is brewing….. but then I fret all the way through it anyway….! Old, tired brain I guess.
I am “escaping” with a miniature kit project that is beautifully made and full of intriguing details… just follow the instructions. Lots of fun!
Stay warm, bundle up…. Groundhog Day is almost here (half-way through the winter season!)
Wishing you some Peace and Joy.

      Thanks so much.

tough temperatures, but then soooo much snow coming your way! :o glad to hear you are stocked up. praying the electricity and heat stay on for you and the pipes don’t freeze.

sweet puzzle. those books sound good, too.

11 degrees below zero here right now (hope it doesn’t come to you), but no snow on the ground or in the forecast. bundled up, took food out to earl and the birds, walked very fast the ten minutes home and now glad to be inside. have a lot of things to do, but am going to just knit all day. am determined to finish knitting a prayer shawl for my church to take to someone who is ill and/or homebound right now. it’s supposed to be six feet long, not counting fringe. i have 18 inches to go so hope to have it ready by monday. i usually knit much smaller things on much smaller needles so these size 13 needles feel very heavy and awkward to me. all good, though. :)

stay safe in every way. warm and happy, too.

When I got up this morning, the temperature was -22, with windchills in the -40’s. Brrr. Even the university shut down….and that’s very unusual…so you know it’s bad. We might get some snow, but nothing like what’s predicted for you.

We got all our errands done yesterday, so we are settled in for the next couple of days. Your puzzle looks difficult enough, without you being distracted. Good luck.

Stay warm….and really hope you don’t get too much snow! Enjoy your day….as best as you can! ;)

Sorry about your cold, cold temps! It’s 4 degrees right now. I can withstand the cold, but having to dig out in those temperatures will be very difficult.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

Stay safe and warm, Claudia. I know you and Don are both mindful to avoid injury while doing winter chores.

We’re in a dry spell where I live, after much rain. The good news is that every area of California is supposedly out of drought, something that hasn’t happened in 25 years. Having lived in drought conditions for 40 plus years, I’m not about to waste water now and still live like I’m under drought. Saves on the water bill.

We’re getting ready for the big storm, too. We are getting ice instead of snow. It won’t be much, but a little goes a long way here in Georgia. We’ve done our shopping so we’re ready. Hope all goes well for you (hope we don’t lose power).

Read your last posts. Sounds like you’re having a lot of snow. I’d love to travel to the states, but some say they will never go to the US until there are political changes. I’m sad for all of you and your beautiful country. And sad we are your neighbors. And sad that alberta feels the need to be its own country! The whole world is a confused mess.

That’s it. Time for supper. (Scout looks nice on the pic, your puzzle is good – they always look hard).

As I write this (7 am on Saturday) it is -17. That’s the temp, not the wind chill. I”m supposed to go pick up medication today and trying to decide if it can wait till Monday. We’ll see. So far the house is warm and we haven’t had a lot of snow, so that’s a plus. And no melt/freeze means no ice, which is probably good because salt doesn’t work all that well at these temperatures. I think it is too cold to snow!

That puzzle is a beauty. I have three to go and will probably start one of them, including the “Three Pines” puzzle I got for Christmas from Canada. It will be a tough one and the only thing holding me back is wondering if I’ll ever finish! I may need to make it a team project. I hate puzzle team projects!

Good book, hot cocoa, a puzzle, some paints — oh yes, and a load of household projects. I can handle being inside for a few days, so long as we don’t lose power! Batten the hatches!

I didn’t know there was a Three Pines puzzle! I’ll have to look for that.

Stay in and stay warm, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
