Good morning.
• The snow has melted away. The porch impatiens died, but the calibrachoa, the big hanging plant, the pansies, and the lavender are still hanging in there, but with nighttime temps continuously in the twenties, who knows how long that will last? It will be interesting to watch.
• I shot a quick little video of my first dollhouse rehab, Hummingbird Cottage, for my doll account on Instagram. It’s my latest post there if you’re interested. I added some music, though I’m not very good at video/music yet. That account name is: sophieandherpals. If I could manage to embed it on this post, I would, but I’m not sure how to do it in this newer version of WordPress. Shooting the video served as a reminder of that experience and the fact that I started out knowing absolutely nothing about it. I had to figure it out as I went along. There are things I would do differently if I was doing it today, but that’s to be expected. Doing this sort of thing – filming the interior – starts to get my dollhouse mojo going, which I desperately need as we head into winter. All good.
• When I played a nurse (billed as Nurse Claudia, according to Jim) in the film, lots of forms had to be filled out because I’m not a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG.) The producers had to explain why they weren’t using a union member – it was an emergency. I had to sign lots of forms. But, as a result I’m eligible to join the union. But, if I wanted to do that, I would have to pay a $3000.00 initiation fee. Gulp. No can do. Money is tight and I’m sure not going to spend that amount of money to join the union when I’m sure I’ll never act on film again. The problem as I saw it was that if there are residuals involved in the future – and there will be – I won’t receive them because I’m not in the union. Don had to call SAG yesterday about something else, so he asked them about that. Turns out, if I’m officially SAG eligible – and I am – I’ll receive the residuals anyway. So that was a nice bit of news!
(I had already plugged my name into the “Are you eligible?” part of SAG’s site and found that I was listed there as officially eligible.)
• Current puzzle. Piccadilly Circus in London.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.
Linda says
That is good news about possible residuals in the future.
Hopefully you can save it, I remember a long time ago I think you said you needed a new roof. Well anyway there are always house repairs
Claudia says
Residuals will never come close to the price of a new roof – not for one day’s work on the movie.
Thanks, Linda
Stay safe.
Brenda says
Love this puzzle…
Some good news
Claudia says
Thanks, Brenda!
Stay safe.

Love the doll house posts so looking forward to winter and more work on them. Good news about the residuals. I took my Mom to WalMart yesterday and she was so shocked at the prices. It was a good outing for her and she had fun, so I’m glad we went. We wore masks of course but most aren’t wearing them at all anymore. We are trying to stay well as long as possible.
Claudia says
Same here. We still wear masks when we’re out and about. Why not? It’s not as if we’re not used to them by now.
Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
no fee but possible residuals? yay for that good news! :)
and getting to another creative project? more goodness.
the puzzle looks fun, too.
happy thursday, claudia! same wish for don and everyone else here.
kathy
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Kathy.
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
Well…that’s certainly good news about any residuals! Kind of a steep fee I’m thinking for joining a union. Course the last time I joined a union was in 1979, so fees probably have increased…lol.
Looks like an interesting puzzle. Enjoy! ;)
Claudia says
An initiation fee. Dues are much less. Don joined in the early seventies and it was much less then.
Stay safe, Donnamae.

You will enjoy getting those residual checks in the mail! My daughter has an occasional side gig as an “animal wrangler” for movies, TV, music videos, commercials etc., which is a behind the camera role. In 2015, one of her horses was used in a Melissa McCarthy/Kathy Bates movie. My daughter was also asked to do the stunt riding for Kathy Bates, which entitled her to join SAG. She, too, declined due to the expense of becoming a member but she definitely gets the residual checks, about quarterly, if I recall correctly. Through the years, the checks have dwindled in amount since fewer and fewer people rent or buy the movie as time goes on but, regardless of the dollar amount, every check is a reminder of a priceless experience. I’m sure each check you get will also elicit fun memories of your Nurse Claudia role!
Claudia says
I have a friend from the days I worked for Veterinarian who works as an animal wrangler in the NYC area.
Don gets checks – small ones – throughout the year, not just quarterly. I suspect it will be a long time until I see one, but it will be fun, nevertheless.
Stay safe, Shari.
Barrie says
Hi Claudia… Exciting news about the residuals! And just the fact that you could get your SAG card if you wanted is pretty cool!
Hummingbird looks like a fun project!
Relatively cold here so I’m going to stay wrapped in a blanket and read!
Claudia says
Very cold here, Barrie! Not windy today but yesterday we had very strong winds all day long.
Stay safe.
Debbie Schwartz says
I have that puzzle! Loved doing it and a couple others of his. They are unique and sometimes challenging! Enjoy!
Debbie
Claudia says
This one is very challenging! But fun
Stay safe, Debbie.
Elaine in Toronto says
So glad you are “officially eligible” for residuals from your movie, Claudia, as well you should be. Nice you’re travelling to England via your new jigsaw puzzle.
How are the girls? Have they written their letters to Santa, yet? Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
They’re fine! No letters yet – that I know of.
Stay safe, Elaine.
Chris K in WI says
Well, that was exciting news! You worked hard on that project, so it’s nice that you will be able to reap those benefits. And taking on that role at the drop of a hat……. wow!!!!
You aren’t near where they are to get the mega snowfall this weekend, are you?? We are hearing that it will be in feet, not inches. Sounds awful! Hope your back is better. Looking forward to the new dollhouse project over the winter. Take care.
Claudia says
No, that’s in Buffalo, near Niagara Falls, clear across the state. Buffalo is in the northwest of New York, on Lake Erie. We’re in the East. They’re in a snow belt, so they’re going to get walloped.
Stay safe, Chris.
jeanie says
Well, Nurse Claudia, that’s excellent news on the residuals. Yes, I can see why you’d pass on the SAG as long as you aren’t planning on picking up more film work like that. But the residuals are a big plus!
I love that puzzle — almost bought it two years ago up north and thought I might this summer but the small town bookstore where I sold it had closed. I’m sure I can find it again somewhere, but I was looking forward to getting it from them. I can’t remember if I told you I bought a puzzle of Playbill musical covers. I’ve bought a couple for Christmas gifts for theatre friends and might get one for me at some point in the game. I’ve got to do Queen Liz first and won’t start that till after Christmas.
We’re getting snow now and have since last evening, gently but definitely there. Time to start digging the path to the bird feeder before it fills up with more today. Looking at my neighbor’s fence and what has stacked up on it in the past couple days, it looks like about three, maybe four inches, though they also talked about “more snow and 40 degree temperatures” today. Go figure.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Claudia says
It’s a neat puzzle and surprisingly difficult. Lots of different red busses and taxi cabs, all in slightly different shades of red and black.
We had that the other day. Temps reached the forties the day after our snow and it all melted.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
